I have been working weeks on this stupid computer of mine and cannot find the problem!!!!!
Chrome, IE and Firefox will NOT connect to the internet! I have tried everything that I can think of and everything I have found on the internet to do! NOTHING WORKS AND I'M LOSING MY MIND!
Here are my screen shots:
PLEASE PLEASE HELP! I am not a "techy" person but do understand a lot. Please help me if you can.
-
A lot of viruses will target those 3 since they are the most used.
What tools have you ran on the system to scan for infections yet?
Normally I have a user run malwarebytes anti rootkit
http://www.malwarebytes.org/antirootkit/
TDSSKiller
http://usa.kaspersky.com/downloads/tdsskiller
And combofix
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/combofix/

I will try these and get back with you. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
-
OH, I guess I should list what I've used:
Stopzilla
AVG
CCleaner
Malwarebytes
-
See what those 3 I posted do for you.
Combofix is totally automated. Make sure to disable the anti virus and go have a cup of coffee, it can take a little bit :-)
Shane
-
haha. I will do
-
ugh. nothing. still can't get them to work :(
-
OK so did all 3 tools run on the system ok? And have you ran my Windows repair tool now with all repairs chosen after the scans?
Shane
-
I have only ran what you suggested. I'm new here so I'm not sure what you are talking about.
-
OK great, now run my Windows Repair Tool and run all the repairs. Make sure to have it backup your registry first and lets see if it can help :-)

Shane

Will do!
-
Depending on the computer the repairs can take a little while. So coffee may b e in order :-)
Shane
-
didn't work :(
-
Open a cmd.exe window.
In that windows type in
ping 8.8.8.8
Post a screen shot of the results then do
ping google.com
And post a screen shot of the results.
Shane
-
silly question, but could my router have something to do with this?
-
Not normally. If you have another computer hooked up to the same router and it works fine then you know it isnt the router :-)
The 2 pings I had you do show that it can get on the internet just fine. So it isnt a dns problem and internet is working.
You also said pale moon can work fine as well.
What antivirus program do you have installed on the system?
Shane
-
Yes, Palemoon is the only one that works. I use AVG and Stopzilla.
-
Does AVG have a built in firewall?
Shane
-
no. here's the advanced settings
-
Ok to cover all bases here is what I want you to do.
Uninstall AVG and stopzilla. You can reinstall them after we are done.
I need to make sure they are not blocking the browsers, I have seen it before.
Then we need to check the Windows firewall and make sure they havent been blocked in there by accented. So disable the windows firewall and after you uninstall the other two, reboot and then try the browsers.

i have to locate my password for stopzilla before i remove it.. but in the meantime, i looked at my windows firewall.. thought it weird that it says it allows Chrome and Firefox but Pale Moon isn't even listed.
-
I see they are only allowed if your network is set to home and blocked if set to public. If you open the network and sharing center it will say what your network is set as.
Shane
-
it says Home network
-
OK good. Go ahead and still disable the firewall as well. Then with all 3 out of the way we can at least rule out it is one of them causing the problem :-)
Shane
-
uninstalled both avg and stopzilla, still not working.. turned off firewall, still not working. It looks like I'm going to have to reinstall everything. I was trying not to go there because I'm going to lose a lot of work information.. ugh.
-
Not yet, I am not done lol
Next thing I want to do is create a new user on the machine and then login to that user and see how it works. That will tell me if it is something with the user profile
Shane
-
haha.. Ok
-
Didn't work. It didn't show Pale Moon over there, but the other 3 still aren't connecting
-
Ok, then something is really messed up in the system fr them. Without logging in and checking it is hard for me to tell what it is.
So before you wipe anything lets try a repair install instead, this way you can keep your files and such.
First you need a Windows 7 with SP1 disk. You can grab the images here
https://sites.google.com/site/linuxlablibrary/windows-iso
And then burn the iso to a disk using imgburn.
Then follow this :-)
