Hello Shane,
My laptop has a capacity of 38 GB and it is nearly full. I have an external drive with about 200 GB free space. Is there anyway to create space on the C Drive by moving files to the external drive. My laptop is a an HP 500 operating on Windows 7.
Rgds.

Hello Shane,
Attached is System info about this laptop:
HP 510 Notebook
OS Windows 7 Ultimate
Its an old laptop and old drive!
Funnily enough I don't have that much music and pics on the drive. I really am surprised that it has filled up so quickly. I have 76 MB in the music folder and 344 Mb in the pictures folder. I suspect that installing of updates is the culprit... :undecided: but I am not sure...

Check the size of your program files folder and the Windows folder. I bet that is where a lot of the size is.
Also go to your profile C:\Users\Your Username and see how big your profile is.
Also run the disk cleanup tool as well (Have it clean everything). A lot of times you can clear out GB's from Windows 7. Its error logs and crap take a lot of space!

Hello Shane,
I have been having internet problems so I am not sure whether the previous posts I sent got through to you.
Briefly:
Windows Folder 15.4 GB
Users Folder 12.9 GB
Programme Folder 3.4 GB
I ran disc clean up but only got 684 MB.

Windows folder is about normal on size for Windows 7 and program files as well.
The one that is on the large side is the users folder. That is where I would look to find out what is taking up to 12 GB. With normal profiles you might have an avg. of 1 to 2 GB.
Also if you have itunes installed that might explain it, when it does a backup of your device those can get very large.
You should think about getting a new drive for the laptop. It will be both bigger and faster. Given the age of the laptop it is an IDE hard drive (Not sata). I just checked newegg.com to give you a link to one and they don't have any ide drives for laptops listed! Man times are changing fast lol

Thanks Shane.
I will check the users file and see what is there.
I have also been considering changing the drive and will look around here for a "local" solution.
Once again many thanks.

Hello Shane,
It is me once again.
I looked through my users folder and checked the volume of each folder. Individually it doesn't add up. It is as if there are some "hidden files" somewhere...any suggestions?

Did you enable to see hidden files on your system?
Under your profile in Windows 7 you will have an AppData folder, which is hidden by default.
Shane

How do I access it?

Here you go

It is the Appdata folder contains 9 GB.
Can one delete some files or is it a"no go"
-
Dont delete anything yet.
Go into the appdata folder and see if you can find where the largest files are. Then let me know what they are.

Appdata - Roaming-nokia =4.49GB
Appdata-Roaming-uniblue =2.75GB

nokia? and uniblue?
Post a screen shot of those folders so I can see what is in them. They are most likely safe to delete since they are not a apart of Windows but I want to make sure.

Go to add remove programs and remove any nokia software and any uniblue software. Once uninstalled you can delete those 2 folders
