Title: Laptop freezes even in safe mode
Post by: Ballinlea on October 04, 2016, 11:50:42 pm
Hi
Running Windows 10. Upgrade from 7.
My laptop has started freezing and I have to do a hard shut down. I have booted into safe mode but after a short time it freezes. I can't get it to run long enough to really do anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Are you using a desktop or laptop and are the fans loud.

This could be an overheating problem.

If it's a desktop, open it up to see if there is a build up of fluff etc. to clean out.

If it's a laptop, the best you can do is to buy a can of compressed air known as an Air Duster to blow through the air intake and exhaust, but don't hold the straw too close to the intake grid as you can damage the fan.

Some laptops also draw air in through the keyboard, so give that a good blow over as well.

If it's a laptop and there's some improvement then you will have to take it in to check for blocked vents, unless you are or feel competent to strip it down yourself.

In extreme cases, the thermal paste needs to be replaced.
