Hi, Admin, moderators and experts, long time no see.
My system collapsed after i downloaded some latest updates. The first symptom is deaddd slow computer browsing and then ultimate death of pc. It was update regarding meltdown virus, and it just collapsed intel mobos pc, as bolt from Blue, i mean BSOD.
Ok coming to this problem.
This is error No.1014 dns client. On every logon and logoff, the internet light on the modem would turn red, followed by dsl line blinking and then reestablishing the connection.I have tried all sorts of tricks, but could not overcome this error, which for the past few days is annoying. I checked the dsl connection and everything is good. But on every log on and log off, i am seeing the foregoing symptoms of internet loss and gain.
I am enclosing the error logs, so that experts may give the solutions.
The error name resolution for xxx.com timed out, messages .
Please see the last line of the log and ignore others.
Those are the errors, when i tried to solve the error and subsequently corrected thro System Restore

Hi JR - which version of Windows are you using ?
Win 10 had KB4056892 to counter Meltdown and Spectre whereas Win 7 had KB4056894.
The latter gave me a BSOD on my Win 7 laptop and has since been withdrawn and so far MS haven't released a modified one for it.
However, MS has released KB4058258 for Win 10 to resolve the performance problems caused by 6892 but I hadn't noticed any performance problems on my Win 10 machines and have since installed 8258.
If you are using Win 10 then do a manual check for updates and you should get KB4058258
If you are using Win 10 and you still get DNS problems then there's a cmd you can use to reset your network adapters.
Open a Command Prompt (Admin) and enter -
necfg -d
shutdown /r /t 00
After the reboot, go into Device Manager/View/Show hidden devices and expand Network adapters to ensure your wireless and Ethernet adapters are still showing - if not then redo those cmds and check Device Manager again.
That netcfg cmd is specific to Win 10 and isn't available on earlier versions of Windows, although there are other netcfg cmds that are which you can see by opening a cmd prompt and entering netcfg /?
I downloaded and Saved InSpectre from this article to run it as an admin to disable Meltdown protection but didn't notice any difference in performance even though it said performance was poor on this Intel based machine.

Hi, Thanks for a possible fix. But my computer is having windows 7.
But why this error and internet loss at every log on and log off.
Please give the commands for win 7. I will also try
I tired network fix from AIO tool.
Why it is happening Boggins?

If you have restored back to before you got that update then it could be either your DNS servers or your router.
I use Level 3's DNS servers as I was having problems with Google's 8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4
Level 3's are 209.244.0.3 and 209.244.0.4
I assume you know how to change those on your computer ?
I'd also power cycle the router by turning it off as well as your computer and disconnect all cables for a couple of minutes.
Reconnect the cables then switch just the router on until all of its lights are on and then switch the computer on to see if that has resolved it.
If it's an ISP supplied router then you could factory reset it by sticking something like a darning needle or straightened paperclip in the pin hole on the back of the router until it switches itself off and goes through the reboot procedure.
As ISP routers are pre-configured you would only need to change the channel to what you prefer as well as changing the password back to what you had, as you shouldn't keep the default one.
That may change the external IP address for you but switching the router off etc. as for a power cycle but leave it off for at least 30mins will also change the ext. IP address which can resolve some connectivity problems.
If none of those resolve then I'd contact your ISP for a change of router.
I assume you have your update settings set to Check for but let me choose... ?
-
There are a couple of cmds you could try and they are -
netsh winsock reset catalog
netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt
shutdown /r /t 00
and then see how things are after the reboot.
-
Hi, The same error continues, and i experience the same disconnect on log on.
-
And you've done all that I've suggested including changing the DNS servers in your computer ?
I'm not sure if you have this connection setting in your router but some used to have a Time out setting.
This could be set to On demand or with a Time out of 30mins.
That setting can be changed to Always on and where you just have a minutes setting, change that to 0
Let me know if your router has this setting.
-
Hi, I checked the router settings and it is configured for always and the time is 0.
Before i change the dns servers, could you kindly say, if there is any miss in ipconfig /all i enclosed herewith.
It is one and the same ip, fordhcp srver, dns server and gateway. Is there any wrong in it ,
I left google dns, as it allows foreign dns servers to interfere with my network at times of a day.
It is always better to have your Isp server.
Why , the configured dns servers are not shown in ipconfig, as i have done the same in the router itself.
-
When the DNS server setting is set to auto in the computer, the boxes remain blank and will use the ones set by the router, which should then be your ISP's unless you have changed them in the router.
Your ipconfig /all is showing as correct except for the missing Physical and IPv4 addresses - have you removed those before posting ?
ISP DNS servers aren't always the best.
When I use my ISP DNS servers, I'll initially get a yellow alert on the WiFi icon on boot, but don't when using Level3's.
I've attached my ipconfig /all for Ethernet and the default ISP DNS servers.
-
Hi,,Boggins , saw your reply.
But i could see the configured dns in my router, and checking that , it belongs to my ISP
Yes, i removed those things in my reply.
For your information, i am having wifi modem , i do not know, it routes or not to call it as router. That is connected to he pc with ethernet on pppoe.
Other wifi devices get signal from this router , thro the wifi settings in the router. My router has one wan and 4 lan ports. Wan port has the telephone wire. Ethernet port is connected ot pc.
When i switch on the modem, the modem gets both dsl and internet. Even when my pc is not in use, the wiri signal is passed thro the modem .
When i connect the pc, when those are running, i think that it reallocates the device ip, in which case, it cuts and regain signal. But i found it is weird, as it is configured to get dhcp ips.
I checked internet option, router settings , as well as outer settings in pc.
please provide clues. In the mean time, i will try your 3 level dns
Is it necessary that every log on would induce the dhcp to cut and give new ips to the device connected?
P.S: I tried 3 level dns server , the problem continues
-
Hi, Please also see the network adapters, both hidden and not hidden.
Realtek is the network adapter that shows as not hidden
-
Your computer's Device Manager wouldn't show a wireless adapter if one isn't fitted but your router is broadcasting a wireless signal all of the time.
I suppose the full name for a one piece router would be modem/router.
In the USA some are still using a separate modem and router where the router provides the wireless.
As you only have the one router, that is a modem/router combo.
When you switch on any device the router will assign it a DHCP IP address, regardless of it being Ethernet or wireless.
Your cable connections are a bit puzzling as in the UK when the broadband comes down the phone line, the cable from the master socket is a RJ11 cable but a WAN is a RJ45 cable which has a bigger plug - similar to your Ethernet cable.
If your connections are how it has always worked but this is a recent problem, then that set up must be normal for your ISP.
Does Event Viewer have anything for this connection/disconnection ?

Can you go to Control Panel/All Control Panel Items and click on Network and Sharing Centre to check if you are part of a Home Group or if your connection is listed as Home network.
If it's the latter, click on Home network and change it to Public - Close
Run a Command Prompt as an admin and enter -
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /registerdns
shutdown /r /t 00
and then see if that resolves on the reboot.
You can check Event Viewer after 15 mins to see if that has produced any errors as the /registerdns cmd advises.
Whatever DNS you change the computer to will override the default in the router.
-
Hi, Boggins, it was the later Home network. I have issued all commands and on reboot, i get the same results. First on shutdown, all lights were ok. But on reboot, when the windows 4 colour starting appears, the internet light turns to red, a few seconds later dsl is cutting itself and as usual , after few successive blink, the internet light turns to red and immediately to green giving the access.. i checked all settings in the router and found no problem.
In wan ip settings , i could not select the dhcp, as it is default set to static wan ip. is there anything.
I am doubly sure that it is having in assigning the internal address, but could not find the solution for it.
what is home group . If i am using a pc and laptop , should i select home network or home group. please advise.
When i configure, after deleting the entries, i just give vc, vc1, protocol, pppoe, mode, llc,i just give my id and pw to get the pppoe connection of internet access. I just go to wireless to give the ssid and pw to get the wifi connection.
I also wish to inform, that on the dsl stays green, my wifi gets first connection and then the internet lights glows red and greeen. I think i have explained all.please
-
Home Group is for sharing data between machines but Home network is normal for the home user - you can change that back to Home network.
I've always dealt with DHCP, so not sure how a WAN Fixed IP address works - that is set by your ISP.
Have you spoken to your ISP about this error -
Name resolution for the name _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.domain.name timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded
I'll ask jpm if he has any suggestions for it.

J, Saw this and thought it may help?
http://www.techlineinfo.com/configuration-guide-of-adsl-wifi-modem-d-link-dsl-2730-u-for-bsnl-and-mtnl/
ISP supplied routers usually come pre-configured and the settings in JR's router differ to those in your linked article - this may be specific to JR's ISP.
-
From memory J bought the Dlink 2730U himself, not supplied by his ISP, and his ISP is BSNL...Perhaps he can confirm?
-
Yes, Samson, I confirm. I bought , as bsnl router terrycom supplied the router and then vanished without any firmware update. But i configured the router, with BSNL dslam staff.
Hi, samson, Why configured dns servers shown in router, the exact ips are not shown in ipconfig /all. The dhcp, dns, and the gateway all shows my router gateway ip, 192.168.1.1
Is it correct or do have to make some changes.
Moreover i use router check beta, a nice program for the router check. Here , the configured dns server is shown as router ip, and on the details tab, it shows, the owner of the dns as Local Address, What is this. Could you explain. What is the term Local Address refers to?
But the Lilnk given by Samson, is for the older model of the same router, My router is the same having the latest model
The menus are entirelyl different.
Napt is enabled? what is that
I have by-heart the settings, Emptied the already configured data, reset the router, and then enter the vp 0vc1 35,pppoe protocol, channel llc, and then supplied my user id and pw to get internet access
i do not think that there is anything wrong in it.
But modem reboot on every logon is annoying me.
hope to get solution and details
The exact lilnk is this

Because you have set the DNS servers on the router and not the PC?, and your router has a local area network address.

Not true according to your screenshot, VCI shows "blank" and mode shows "bridging" not PPPoE
-
hi, please see this . That was a general page setting, without configuration
-
OK, that looks correct, but...DHCP should be enabled as you don't have a static IP address do you?
-
Hi, That was the reason for enclosing the previous png.
But i could not eidit that tab? How i do not know.
But there is dns settings in advance settings.
I do not know, why i could not change the static ip over there.
Any clue,
Would this be the reason for the problem
-
Does changing from "Auto" to "Specified" enable access to change those settings?
-
Hi, Thanks . But selecting the specified also does not permit me to change to dhcp. Even i tried for bridged to test, whether it is giving a chance to select. I do not know anything about wan ip settings in the configuration.
Thanks anyway for giving me a clue to try, samson
-
Have you tried Boggin's suggested alternative DNS servers in his previous post? Or try OpenDNS ( I use these)...
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
-
What other options from Bridged do you get when you expand the Channel Mode dropdown ?
Does the same happen on the laptop if you disable wireless on that and wire it up ?
I wonder if it's worth setting the desktop computer up with a static IP address.
You would need to see what the DHCP range the router is using and if it covers from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.254 then you will need to reduce that to say 192.168.1.199 and then you could assign it as say 192.168.1.200
It would need to be outside of the DHCP range to avoid an IP conflict.
-
Does the same happen on the laptop if you disable wireless on that and wire it up ?
Indeed, from memory the laptop is XP SP3? which, unless it has been added, does not by default support IPv6, only IPv4. I have seen in some forums similar problems to J's resolved by disabling IPv6 in the network adapter's properties. YMMV.
See method 2 here to disable IPv6 on the Win 7 machine and more info on the error.
https://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/3336.event-id-1014-microsoft-windows-dns-client.aspx
-
While I've never experienced any problems with IPv6 enabled, I always uncheck that box on my laptops as it has been known to cause connectivity problems, but don't recall J's problem being one of them.
One other thing I always do on my Win 7 laptop is to disable the MS Virtual adapter as you only need it if using a VPN.
To do that, from an admin cmd prompt enter -
netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=disallow
To reinstate it, change disallow to allow
-
Hi, Sorry for lae reply.
Even after wiping out all, and reinstall windows, i got some 1006 event id errors. I wasa then having only one dns server for testing google dns 8.8.8.8. But when i enabled dhcp, by trying another terracom, my old modem, the actual dns server shown was some that i did not configured in the router. The router had the isp address of course, but the actual dns servers were shown as one top, opendns and the next as google dns. I do not know, how those things come about.
There was no internet, even when all lights are ok. I was getting various error messages , like investigate router or modem, your modem is experiencing connectivity issues, the dns server is not responding, and always got, windows could not automatically detect the network proxy server settings, etc.
I tried google dns and then the connection was somewhat smooth.
I got the internet and the problem gone. But on verifying the event viewer, i found dhcp, dns client errors.
Today also i experienced error id 1006, which i enclose for ready reference.
How even after complete wipe and reinstall , these errors are happening , i do not know.
I still probe, how i got the opendns and google dns server as the actual servers, while i enabled dhcp from my ISP.
There are more than just connectivity in network problems.
I already tried bOggins 3rd level servers, but the problem persisted.
Just with heavy heart, i had to wipe out the total data.
There the suggestion of tb expansion hdd came to my help. I just copied the othe drives and necessary files before opting reinstall of windows.
As already said, changing the auto to specific does not make any difference.
First let me try boggins 3 level ips now .
-
Have a read through this article to see if it will resolve the 1014 and 1006 warnings - https://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/3336.event-id-1014-microsoft-windows-dns-client.aspx?ranMID=24542&ranEAID=TnL5HPStwNw&ranSiteID=TnL5HPStwNw-i.2RabxXCukVHDUbhImoDg&tduid=(57d8a42b1063dd589f6ff96f5a0894b5)(256380)(2459594)(TnL5HPStwNw-i.2RabxXCukVHDUbhImoDg)()&ranMID=24542&ranEAID=TnL5HPStwNw&ranSiteID=TnL5HPStwNw-i.2RabxXCukVHDUbhImoDg&tduid=(57d8a42b1063dd589f6ff96f5a0894b5)(256380)(2459594)(TnL5HPStwNw-i.2RabxXCukVHDUbhImoDg)()
If you are the only one who had access to that other router then you must have changed the DNS settings at some time as the default is auto which would use your ISP's.
If you have changed to specific DNS settings in the router and then use different ones in the computer, that can cause connectivity issues.
If you want the computer to use specific DNS servers then the router should be set at default and vice versa where you have set the router to specific DNS servers, the computer should be set to auto.
As you have more than one machine, then they should both be set the same.
You haven't said if you have checked to see if you are getting the same error on the laptop - can you check that ?
-
Hi, The dns warning and internet light goes off along with dsl still exists.
In one other thread, you have said, i remember, that if i set the dns in the router, then I need not change the dns server in other devices. i do not remember the thread. So, i just enable dhcp or any specific dns server in the router itself.
What is the 1006 event id, where i get, the incorrect configuration of dns server. I do not know. In the mean time, i will also check with dlink support, if there is anything wrong in my configuration.
Yesterday, you have given me a link. i will also look at that.
Those settings i already tried, but let me know, should those commands be tried on every log on. Or is it a one time change?
But i think, that did not work in my case.
-
Those cmds for the 1006 error are a one off.
Have you unchecked the box for TCP/IPv6 in the computer or executed that netsh hostednetwork cmd to see if they make any difference.
In the opening lines of your last post, do they refer to the laptop when you disabled wireless and wired up as I'd suggested ?
-
Hi, I suppose, that after getting the clarification, i would have issued host commands.
But does the wireless connection has anything to do with the modem, except that it fetches the wifi?
I did see the internal ips , it is getting when connected. Is it that when your pc starts, it has to get the ip from dhcp, and hence it is totally emptying the total ip table and then getting the fresh ips for all the connected device once again to get disconnected or reconnected?
Did you check at your end?
Normally, when the dsl line is ok, then the internet should not cut off, when login or logout. Is it correct?
please
-
Yes, your router is broadcasting a wireless signal all of the time and DHCP will assign an IP address to each device as it is switched on.
On mine, I can have a machine Ethernet connected but the Ethernet light on the router will not come on until that machine has been switched on and assigned a DHCP IP address - all other lights remain on and just the Ethernet light will go out when I switch that machine off.
My broadband connection will remain intact.
You don't seem to have had much joy from your ISP for setting up the router - D-Link may help but ISPs may have their own particular settings which are specific to them.
Yours is the first router I've seen using WAN Bridged - was that a default setting or what your ISP told you to set it up as ?
-
I've just been looking in my ISP supplied Fibre router and it does list a WAN IP but it's for my external IP address.
It's a HG635 and doesn't appear to have a Bridging mode.
The Operating Mode is set to Auto but it gives a choice of WAN or DSL.
-
Hi, It is not in bridged mode. It is in PPPoe mode, that is connection thro cable thro telephone.
What you see in the picture is default. The actual is at the bottom, where the configured mode is shown. I checked and it is in pppoe mode only. Really i do not know, what is wan ip being fixed.
I will go through all the commands starting with your host command. If the problem is fixed, i will inform you immediately.. Pl see post 20 and 21
Pl also see this
C:\Windows\system32>netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=disallow
The Wireless AutoConfig Service (wlansvc) is not running.
C:\Windows\system32>
-
Hi, Boggins, See this router page, where all the information on dhcp server is available including the pool.
What is dns relay, is it different from dchp server. The default is given. I think, that there is no need to change anything there.
But i have a doubt, that there is a default server name called domain.name.
I do not have any domain. The computer properties list as workgroup only.
please your ideas.
Morever, i have attempted all the repairs in the link. But still, i am experiencing a re connection on log on. The dsl goes out and come back leaving some minutes without internet access.
But the name resolution for domain name timed out, gives some other domain or com name, now
please
-
Hi, I forgo to attach the router page as said in the previous post
i could edit a post, but could not have other options if i modify, lilke adding enclosure, or bold , italics etc.
Am i missing something here
-
You will need to change that .254 down to say .199 and then assign the pc with a static IP address above .199
-
Strange, boggins , weird.
Please say what is your primary dns suffic in the computer properties standard, where you have the computer name domain workgroup menu etc. When i click more options, by chance, i get one blank field as primary dns suffic name left default as blank.
I just entered the computer name in it and reboot it as required,
there was no blinking or connection loss during the booting.
What is this blank to do with the error message is not known.
Should it be filled. But , i did not get alert to fill this.
anyhow, what this primary dns suffix, can i give any name? or is a ploy to watch browsing history by ISP or not. I do not see the menu before this.
can i give any name , what purpose, this name to be filled. Can i leave it as blank. pl boggins.
-
My Primary DNS Suffix is also blank - this will be default.
-
Hi, I tried for the second restart, and there is no internet cut as was previous.

I don't know - the Host Name is usually the name of the computer and somehow that has created a Domain for you.
-
Hi, Boggins, that fix is not a permanent one and it is a change call a fluke occurances.
Now i have the same problem of disconnecting. I could name anything in the field change and nothing works. It is this error,
Name resolution for the name _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.domain.name timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded.

Can i leave it as blank. pl boggins.
J, Are you talking about the Network Adapter settings?....You should not enter any name here, this may be why it is appearing that you are a member of a domain.
Compare with mine, attached. Those are OpenDNS entries, yours may be different but everything else should be the same.
-
Hi, Samson, No not in network properties
In computer properties, if you click on settings and then select computer tab, and then more, you will get a Primary Dns suffix , which by default is blank.. I tried give a name. But that was not successful as it turned out to be fluke occurrences as i have pointed out in my earlier post.
i have not given a domain name in the computer, but in the dlink router settings in the dhcp server settings, it gives a name as domain.name.
Can i change it? Why it is giving a domain name.
Moreover, I did not change dns server in the outer computer settings , but in the router itself, as i have to do it on all devices if i select dns server in computer settings.
Can i write the same dns server name in the blank spaces in your diagram?
-
Enter and save whatever DNS server addresses that you have chosen to use in the red box of the attached screen shot...set the Domain name box "blank". Then run ipconfig /flushdns, reboot and report back.
Also show your equivalent screenshot for network adapter settings, TCP/IP advanced DNS, like mine above.
-
Hi, Samson, If i enter the dns server shown in the router. as configured, it is not accepting rejecting it as invalid characters alert.
If i delete the name and leave it blank, also , it gives the same error message
I enclose the network advanced properties
-
Your above screenshot looks correct to me....
I'm out of ideas J,
Your best bet is asking with your router manufacturer and or your ISP, I can't imagine you are the only person in India using that model and that ISP, someone must have a solution, and I reckon that is your best route (sorry no pun intended )

Hi, Boggins,
Two things seems to have fixed the problem of rebooting of modem at logon.
The first thing i noticed was when i restart the computers, all the registry handles except, the avastsvc.exe isclosing normally. I thought that this has to be fixed. I had copied a kill program bat, and renamed as ps1, powershell and copied the same in to the windows \system32\tasks.. I will give the exact location in the next post.
Then i followed this link and created a dword key and assigned 1 as the value .
Now, i do not find the behaviour of loss of dsl connection and reconnection.
I tried all kinds of search, and then found , it would be with the dhcp process.
Just found this topic by chance and did the same. Still, i do not know, it is a fluke or actually fixed the matter. Let us wait for some more time on this.
But, i do not know, whether the powershell script, ordinary commands bat file , renamed as ps1 is executing or not, but i did find that there is no more avast keeping open handles in registry and also the dls light is not blinking.
Now the ipconfig /all gives the following details:
Boggins , samson, How the pc becomes domain is still a mystery for me
I only installed windows operating system and not server operating system .
I tried to change the homenetwork settings for a single computer, but on next reboot, it gets back to business computer. still a mystery.

Hi, The problem is back again.
Will contact the ISP.
sub query: When i log on to computer , the computer just boots in to desktop without any alert of user.
But when i log off , it shows my computer user name, (the name we give when we install the OS) shows up. Then , which account the computer logs on noarmally?
If the computer has one user, will it show on log off and on session? or is it a different account? pl

I've lost track of what you have done with this machine or what the problems are, but there are steps in this article which should help you to get rid of the Domain name.
Just use the first 6 steps unless you want to have your desktop PC and laptop in a Home Group.
https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/ie/en-US/c87f817c-ac07-43b2-892b-066a21ef2569/how-do-i-remove-personal-pc-from-old-business-domain-to-join-windows-7-home-network?forum=w7itpronetworking
What does an ipconfig /all produce on your laptop as a comparison ?
-
J, I noticed that your PC name is "sarochan.chandru"
See this https://www.lifewire.com/naming-rules-on-windows-networks-818238
Especially...."Avoid special characters in computer names. Do not use any of these characters when naming Windows computers: / \ * , . " @"
You have . in your PC name, and, including the . your name is over 15 characters long, also lower case. So try
SAROCHANCHANDRU
Long shot I know, but I think we are already in that territory. It seems possible as your PC name has been split at the . to give this from ipconfig /all
Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : sarochan
Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . : chandru
Which is what is giving this whole "domain" issue.
EDIT 21st Feb....
Do you have the latest Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller driver 7.115 ? released 23/1/18
http://www.realtek.com/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=7&Level=5&Conn=4&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false
-
Hi, Samson, Yes it is the latest version as per your link.
I have also changed the name , but still the problem persists.
The Dns client error id 1014 is the only window error showing at which time, i see the dsl light blink and establishes the reconnection.
Samson, Is it normal, if you restart, the modem also will reboot? I mean, the ethernet cable attached to the computer is getting disconnected when shutdown and connected while the course of booting. Is that correct? So, if you restart the pc, the dsl is also disconnected? Are my assumptions not correct?
If so, the restart will automatically cuts of the ethernet connection and reconnects, is it ?
I am yet to visit the link boggin has given and try those .
But i think, i have exhausted those already.
-
When you shut the computer down, it is normal for the Ethernet light to go out on the router and come back on when you switch the machine back on, but your DSL light should remain on.
I don't have a DSL light as such - mine is for Broadband and having checked, your WAN IP address is your ISP's external address.
See if removing the Domain name gets rid of that 1014 error.

Hi, Boggins,
Domain.name is the default settings , as SSID Dlink. We normally assign those things. The next try is disabling ipv6, which is not yet been given by my ISP. I first disabled in ipv6 network adapter settings. But still getting fe.. ipv6 in some ipconfig /all details . So, i went to the registry and replaced the disabled components value to FF dword value, in the HKLM,system, currentcontrolset, services, tcpipip6,parameters GUID.This is given by msoft article to disable fully the ipv6. I enclose the details , now. Whenever, i run the ipconfig /release i use to get fe.. in the release command. Now it shows as blank.
Is there any clue, how to find whether My isp is actually shifted to ipv6, or combining both ipv4 and ipv6?
When i go and see the dns settings, there was a note, that it is for dhcp relay and hence i assume that it is a extra page and having nothing to do with the working of network. When i just leave it, the default dhcp relay settings is obtain address automatically, and the status shows my ISP server address. I checked that.
still puzzled at the dns error 1014. I tried all sorts of tricks
Is any wireless , default enabled by us in the wireless configuration , be the cause?
I will try to just remove the error 1014.
I just noticed that the bottom of the modem is somewhat heat? bearable?
strange error:
Name resolution for the name _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.domain.name timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded.
This is the only error reporting. I do not have any server, as the fix for this is related to server OS
-
Routers do tend to get warm/hot depending on the make & model as to how hot they get.
I would change those registry settings back to the way they were - not sure if that is why you are getting that ping result on google.com
Do you get a reading when you ping yahoo.com ?
You can check if your ISP is using IPv6 by going into the router - my ISP's routers have always shown that as disabled and I have it unchecked in my computers, but as you can see, my ipconfig /all still gives it a form of address.
As I'm using Win 10, I can only use wireless or Ethernet, so in this instance on Ethernet, wireless shows as disconnected.

Ok, i will try to revert back by SR.
Ping yahoo.com gives correct results with no packet loss
One more thing.
I try to give a domain.name, to which i am getting a error, which is related to the ldap...errors i posted .
My query is i am not using a server, but getting kind of server response error, how. I enclose the error i am getting if i change my workgroup as domain and name say, abc.com
dcdiag.txt at c:windows\debug\dcdiag.txt is given below
The following error occurred when DNS was queried for the service location (SRV) resource record used to locate an Active Directory Domain Controller (AD DC) for domain "abc.com":
The error was: "DNS name does not exist."
(error code 0x0000232B RCODE_NAME_ERROR)
The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.abc.com
Common causes of this error include the following:
- The DNS SRV records required to locate a AD DC for the domain are not registered in DNS. These records are registered with a DNS server automatically when a AD DC is added to a domain. They are updated by the AD DC at set intervals. This computer is configured to use DNS servers with the following IP addresses:
192.168.1.1
- One or more of the following zones do not include delegation to its child zone:
abc.com
com

Hi, Boggins and samson,
Please see my post 51. Why it is showing as business and not home pc in the settings. I change it, but it never changes , when i open the network id in ocmputer properties.
Is it normal? or shown as default always, whether we change it or not in the radio buttons.
How could i know that it is not business having many computers, as i am having this annoying _ldap error always on logging .EVent id 1014. That error is related to domain.
I had been to the ISP's Dslam office and met the staff concerned , and checked my configuration. It was all correct except one settings, that pppoe protocol should be in a kind of bridged mode, which i have disabled.
I will try to say, exact mode as , i had to reset if i have to see the menu.
i checked with his computer and on restart, there was no cut of dsl connection and reconnection.
This -ldap server error is annoying me too much, as there is no settings fault .
He says, that by not selecting the bridged mode, i was getting connected thro antenna of the modem thro wifi, even though i have ethernet connection.
He says, mere selection of PPPoe protocol would not give internet connection at all if it is just a modem without wifi.
I do not know what to say. Is it possible.
Now i have configured with him, and checking on my pc, it is disconnecting still
Since it is during the boot, i enabled boot log in msconfig and i am attaching herewith the log file in enclosed file
Could you suggest anything wrong. it shows some drivers did not load...
-
Hi, Boggins and samson,
Please see my post 51. Why it is showing as business and not home pc in the settings. I change it, but it never changes , when i open the network id in ocmputer properties.
Try method 2 here and see if it will allow you to change from "Business" to "Home"...
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-networking/unable-to-change-network-id-from-business-to-home/3b7a31d3-236f-4aa6-90c1-25d509d70a06
He says, that by not selecting the bridged mode, i was getting connected thro antenna of the modem thro wifi, even though i have ethernet connection.
Based on that, I don't think I'd have much faith in that tech guy
-
Hi, I already tried that . I have done that but the radio button shows my network id as business, even after reboot.
Is that a clue for the domain, dns problem?
What is your status of the same in the radio button, samson?
-
Mine is set for Home.
Can we sum up? Are you still getting internet disconnect when starting your desktop? This would explain the dns server timeouts error.
What happens when you start the laptop on wifi, does your router disconnect then? Disable wifi on the laptop and connect via ethernet...using the same cable, plugged in to the same port on the router. what happens then?
-
Hi, Samson,
there was no problem when i just power on the laptop with wifi in laptop enabled. After that, i disconnected pc's ethernet and connected to laptop and disabled the wifi on laptop. There was no problem at all. Not even a blink on the green lights of internet and dsl.
It was only on my windows 7 ultimate pc, that i get this problem. Computer is said ot be logged to user domain instead of active directory, of which term i know nothing. When i issued set user command on elevated cmd, i get user domain
Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601]

C:\Windows\system32>set user
USERDOMAIN=sarochan
USERNAME=chandru
USERPROFILE=C:\Users\chandru
C:\Windows\system32>
So, is it in logging account, the problem arise, i do not know.
I also attempted a new command never heard before, gpresult -r.It gave so much details, can you say anything.
-
I can't help with GP log, that is above my pay grade
So from your test with laptop we know that the router and cable are OK.
It is up to you, but if it were my machine I would try uninstalling and then reinstalling the network adapter (Realtek PCIe FE) and then reinstalling it and see if that clears everything so that you can set it up afresh.....BUT see what others (well Boggin) suggest first.
-
Hi, I am also waiting for boggins suggestion.
Hi, Samson, I also do not know anything about the gpresults. I just came to know from a site that suggest to know, the AD active directory, again, i do not know, what is active directory.
I asked the dlink customer care , and they simply say, that everything is right in the router and it is only system fault. Sometimes, this kind of problem is annoying and it seems that we have to live with it.
-
I think I'd be tempted to reinstall Win 7 - a chew I know, but as it's computer specific, I think you need to start from scratch on this where the adapter driver and network will be installed afresh.
Somewhere along the line when you installed Win 7 and named your computer - that seems to have leeched for want of a better word, into your network set up.
Factory resetting the router doesn't have seemed to resolve because the laptop, as far as I know doesn't have the same details in its ipconfig /all - or am I mistaken in that ?
-
Hi, Boggins, i did not have any network drivers . But i downloaded the same from realtek.com to get my network connection at the first instance after installation.
Is there a technique for naming the computer. I just give a name and it added pc-name to it, as for as i could remember.
Network slot, does not glow in my system, to know that it is working or not.
This motherboard has no light, and moreover, there is a click missing when i insert the ethernet jack to the back of the computer.
I can reinstall windows, but what do you suggest in
that seems to have leeched for want of a better word,
What would you suggest for naming, should i include \before the name or just name anything. Should i use caps on the names, should it contain more characters?
-
J. Did you read my post #54? about naming. https://www.lifewire.com/naming-rules-on-windows-networks-818238
You could try this to check the NIC, realtek diagnostic tool 2.0.3.0, here http://www.realtek.com/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=7&Level=5&Conn=4&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false
-
What puzzles me is why it seems to have taken part of your computer name and set that up as a DNS Suffix.
On the odd occasion that I have factory reset my Toshiba Win 7 laptop, I use caps and it adds -TOSH to the computer name, but doesn't add any of that to the network settings as you can see from the ipconfig /all that I've posted.
The three Toshiba laptops that I use are named TOM26-TOSH, BRUV26-TOSH and KAM4-TOSH - perhaps just using one name may be the answer - I don't know, but it would seem to me that to rewrite something, you need to start from scratch.
Why not call the computer JRAJU
From memory, during the process of a factory reset, it installs the network adapter drivers, sets up your network and connects you to the SSID but I've only ever used machines that have included wireless adapters, so don't know how Windows does that when you only have Ethernet.
However, as nothing you have tried will remedy this business Domain that it is trying to connect to, then I can only suggest starting afresh.
-
Hi, samson, i already tried that tool you posted and there was no error. I do not know about EEE test, that the facility has. It gives normal mark and no error.
Hi, Boggins, Computer name could be changed even after installation. Is it correct, you could change to anything at any time.
Can i remove all the network, home etc..etc and then try to fresh those. Can i remove all the group of network? How to accomplish that? Regarding other things, dlink representative says, as it works perfect in xp sp3, without any problem, there was problem in windows 7 and so the system is somewhat having problem.
I asked about domain.name, He says that it is default company design to take the domain.name and there is no issue in it.
Did you see my gpresults
i did not know, i just executed and found some details. What is active directory. What acccount, i am logged. I am only having one account. ple

What puzzles me is why it seems to have taken part of your computer name and set that up as a DNS Suffix.
When J named the PC, it was "sarochan.chandru", there should not be a "." in the PC name. I am of the opinion that this is the cause of the DNS Suffix issue in his network and subsequent PC name changes have not ammended the network settings to resolve this.
-
I think once something has been set then it will stay that way.
I don't know why it is trying to connect to that domain or how it came about and I can't see any other way of trying to resolve it, but if you have any other ideas.....
-
I am all out of suggestions on this one....Pretty sure all options have been tried and failed.
Bite the bullet J, a fresh install and as Boggin suggests. just name your PC something simple, JRAJU seems as good as anything, as long as your laptop or phone do not have that name
-
You could try this but not sure if it will resolve as I don't know why you are getting that 1014 error.
Disconnect the Ethernet cable then create a restore point and then go Start - type regedit and press enter - accept the UAC and navigate -
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/WindowsNT/CurrentVersion/NetworkList/Profiles
Right click on each key and select Delete
Click on Signatures/Unmanaged and do the same.
Close each section up then click on File/Exit
Reboot then connect the Ethernet cable and when it connects, see if you still get that error in Event Viewer and if the details in an ipconfig /all have changed.
-
Hi, I tried. First, i gave jraju to the dns server name in router. I also changed the computer name to the same. Then i did the registry tweaks .now , the domain error becomes wpad.jraju timed out errors with the same code 1014.
The exact error is
Name resolution for the name wpad.JRAJU timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded.

Why are you putting any name into the router - the DNS servers should be left to your ISP's default.
What did it show before you changed it to your name - you need to leave that at default.
-
Hi, Boggins, If i change the name to default domain.name (dlink default words) , i get this error
Name resolution for the name _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.domain.name timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded.
If i rename it to my name, i get error wpad.name timedout . messages with same error code .So, I suppose, there is a kind of dns name issue. I think that xp machine does not have that problem, but the later versions, from Vista would have some issue.
I will do the reinstall after exhausting all the possibilities.
-
What is in that section before you put a name in ?
Can you post a pic ?

Post the result of ipconfig /all for the XP laptop when connected via ethernet to the router for a comparison.

Hi, Boggins, please see the picture at post no.39

@ Samson - Do you have a comparable router to check what you have where JR has domain.name in his router ?

See attached screenshot. Netgear DG834G non ISP supplied ADSL modem/ router.
"domain.name" is the default entry in J's router? I understand that to be true. It may be ISP/ Region specific and it all seems to work fine on J's XP laptop. I think with that default setting and J's ISP settings and DNS it works and is best left alone rather than just entering random names.
I know J is keen to try and fix the problem, fair play to him, but I'm sure the problem is in J's Win7 machine network, and not his router. A reinstall may be a pain, but may be the only way.
-
We haven't seen an ipconfig /all from the XP machine yet.
It would be nice to see a comparison.

Exactly.....J Please post this ^ ^ ^ ^

hi, please see the ipconfig
presume that xp does not have ipvsix support then, so there is no fe.. entry.
i confirmed with dlink rep that domain.name is company default, like ssid dlink pass phrase 1234567890.
difficult to type in laptop.
moreover, the deleted entries in the hklm, software, microsoft, windowsnt, networklist, profiles ,have not been updated on the reboot, but anyhow, i am getting internet access.I can easily restore to SR Point for that purpose
-
Hi, I am enclosing the home network settings. Pl say, if it is correct. I restored my system to 25.2.2018 before resorted to registry tweak.
Thanks boggins to remind me to create a SR before doing the tweak. It shows as joined, but i will remove the joined as a result of SR

That's okay - you can have it set to either Home or Public.
In your ipconfig /all for your XP machine the Node type shouldn't be showing as Unknown.
Create a restore point then follow the steps in this article then post another ipconfig /all - also let us know if it has any effect on your connection on that machine - although we seem to be moving away from the problem with the Win 7 machine.
Are you still intending to do a reinstall on that machine ?

I have seen this before and on XP machines, mostly Dell's with Intel WiFi, showing as "unknown" in Node Type from ipconfig /all.. I have done the following and set them as "Hybrid"..solved an issue reconnecting after "sleep" and "hibernate".
Make a registry backup first, then....
Run the registry editor and open this key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Netbt\Parameters
Delete the DhcpNodeType value if it’s present.
If the DhcpNodeType value isn’t present, create it using type: DWORD.
Set DhcpNodeType to 1 (Broadcast), 4 (Mixed), or 8 (Hybrid).
Reboot and then check ipconfig /all

Hi, Boggins and Samson,
So, both the two solutions try posted related to xp machine. I will do that. It seems that some routers have not made some changes to the windows 7 system, as it is entirely structured one from the xp, which does not support ipv6. So, the xp machines, which may lack security concerns, excels in all other things, like gif animation and it was a darling for all.
While changing the system, it was expected that all the vendors also would give some kind of change thro software update. But , dlink totally lacks in. Ofcourse, firmware updates are attempted by dlink, but not enough to last long. I asked about the solution regarding this as given as a cause,to link representative.
Enable the spanning tree portfast setting in your router
in the link below
https://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/3336.event-id-1014-microsoft-windows-dns-client.aspx
He says that it was already done in the latest version of dlink router which i possess now.
Moreover, the server settings and stand alone have something in common , which affects both of them, if a service or improvement is lacking in either of the two.
Net result in annoying issue of internet loss to the users.
Is there any restriction on the number of devices that one could connect? For eg, i may use pc and 2 smartphones on wifi. Would there by some limitations , so that this error crop up. How to know the no of device a router or connection has? Since my router supports 4 lan connections, (eithernet connections), iassume that it would support atleast 4 devices support.
I have attempted all repairs, but how could i accomplish the last solution of making same channel selection in the router.
I have done the b+g+n to G only connection in the wifi settings in the router, but do not know, how to do the last part of it, in the network and sharing settings in the ipv4 properties. Could you say? Of course, i am having wifi router , and my pc is connected thro ethernet. There ia no showing of any wifi connections in the pc and only local area connection.

Hi, boggins, After your solution of registry removal of profiles and signatures, which listed 2 settings of network, network 2 in the registry keys, the reboot restored only one network, which i actually have, the problem persisted.
Then i logged in to hidden admin account, thro gpedit.msc and tried to change the network id from business to home.
Then i just gone thro, each item of gpeditor.
AS i browsed thro each item, there were lot of unconfigured entries, almost all in the gpedit.msc, which will override anything in computer settings .
i stumbled upon a registry entry netlogon. As the term was somewhat related to logon, i just read and enabled the first two entries from unconfigured, which is attached herewith for easy reference.
It had stropped disconnecting, after enabling the first two, with the last chance of trying before reinstalling once again.
Now , it appears that it no more disconnects while restarting. i have not tried shutdown chances. I tried those on reboot and there was no disconnect of dsl.
MVP does not touch their answers on gpedit.msc in any of their replies.
If your router manufacturers do not know , the computer settings, they would not fix this problem.
Let us see some more attempts.
I am enclosing those settings , so any one may try in his own risk, after creating system restore point.
The main directory is gpedit.msc ,in run command
Computer configuration>administrative templates>System>netlogon>dclocator dns records folder and the first two entries as shown in the first and second settings
-
In continuation of the above , please see the description part of the two settings:
The Domain Controller (DC) Locator APIs return IP address of the DC with the other part of the information. Before the support of IPv6, the returned DC IP address was IPv4. But with the support of IPv6, the DC Locator APIs can return IPv6 DC address. The returned IPv6 DC address may not be correctly handled by some of the existing applications. So this policy is provided to support such scenarios.
By default, DC Locator APIs can return IPv4/IPv6 DC address. But if some applications are broken due to the returned IPv6 DC address, this policy can be used to disable the default behavior and enforce to return ONLY IPv4 DC address. Once applications are fixed, this policy can be used to enable the default behavior.
If you enable this policy setting, DC Locator APIs can return IPv4/IPv6 DC address. This is the default behavior of the DC Locator.
If you disable this policy setting, DC Locator APIs will ONLY return IPv4 DC address if any. So if the domain controller supports both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses, DC Locator APIs will return IPv4 address. But if the domain controller supports only IPv6 address, then DC Locator APIs will fail.
If you do not configure this policy setting, DC Locator APIs can return IPv4/IPv6 DC address. This is the default behavior of the DC Locator.
2.Specifies whether the computers to which this setting is applied attempt DNS name resolution of a single-label domain names.
By default, when a computer (or the DC Locator running on a computer, to be more specific) needs to locate a domain controller hosting an Active Directory domain specified with a single-label name, the computer exclusively uses NetBIOS name resolution, but not the DNS name resolution, unless the computer is joined to an Active Directory forest in which at least one domain has a single-label DNS name.
If this setting is enabled, computers to which this policy is applied will attempt to locate a domain controller hosting an Active Directory domain specified with a single-label name using DNS name resolution.
If this setting is disabled, computers to which this setting is applied will attempt to locate a domain controller hosting an Active Directory domain specified with a single-label name only using NetBIOS name resolution, but not the DNS name resolution, unless the computer is searching for a domain with a single label DNS name that exists in the Active Directory forest to which this computer is joined.
If this setting is not configured, it is not applied to any computers, and computers use their local configuration.

That's deeper than I've ever gone into Network settings, but gpedit.exe is only available to Pro versions of Windows and above, although there are steps to enable gpedit in Home versions of Windows.
So is everything fixed now ?
-
Hi, Boggins,
I have not gone deep in to it. Or i do not know anything of the settings before. I just opened gpedit.msc when i want to log in as admin to make sure changes .
There i just clicked something which suddenly shows that inner settings page. Call it a fluke or chance shown to me . I read and it was related to ipv4 and ipv6. I thought of reinstall. So, just did not bother about anything. Just enabled the first two. I decided to leave others as it is . Restarted the pc and found that there was no dsl disconnect.
I do not know, what i have done and i have not enabled any special log. I do not know, where are the logs of these changes in the event viewer.
Here, i just gone to the gpedit once again, and click each item to find enabled . I could have just opt filter or choose all settings in the page. i did not know. I was opening one menu after the other and found that it is in the system tab on the administrative templates. Then i wrote to you about those details.
Lucky find! Dlink routers would have changed to other routers because of this persistent problem. How to know those settings? The clue is the hidden admin login i tried which gives me the group policy editor page.
I tried restart switch for one or two times and the internet stays so the dsl .
After a few more log on , i will tell exactly whether the problem is solved or not.
i do not know that there is net logon service and it is controlled in gpedit also.
messing around the dependencies of windows dns client services have almost led to fatal errors, even to log in . But by somehow, switch the users and log on to the user account.
The first point is deleting the network2 profile with your registry tweak. When it shows only one profile, i thought of doing anything before the last resort to reinstall the windows .
-
When you remove those Profiles, they will be reinstated when you reboot and Ethernet connect - it cleans out any corrupt profiles and gives you a clean slate.
If you check those on your laptop, you will find more profiles as you'll have them for wireless as well.
I don't have gpedit on my Home versions of Windows so can't dig in to see what you may have done, but you seem to have gotten there, although I don't know why you have had to change anything from what was once a clean install of Win 7.
That was a good find :)

Hi, Boggins, This issue arises because, dlink has not done anything on this behaviour. They still do not know or not interested. Their services are only sales , i suppose. They should have updated their settings thro software or firmware updates. Instead, they simply say, that there is nothing wrong in their router.
The settings that they would have applied for ipv6, ie xp support, need to have been looked in when the operating system structure drastically changes. The default behaviour of some of the changes that took place in vista and later versions have not been considered by most of the vendors including dlink.
How in the world would know those intricate settings in gpedit to touch it to get the solution.
Normally all the possible fixes are given as unconfigured in the gpedit polilcies.
It is a great relief from the annoying disconnections on every logon restart and closure.
Thanks to you and also for Samson for this.
Windows error shows server type of error diverting us to check whether we have standalone or server
-
Wow! So is this fixed? Good job J
-
Hi, How on earth i know the existence of these settings in gpeditor?
The Dlink router would have the most tries , that any device would have had the restart tries.
I just got frustrated on repeat of reinstall and just closed my eyes for few minutes, and nobody would believe, how i got the screen of netlogon, dclocators dns folders settings, while i browse the gpedit.msc. I read and enabled knowing the risk of complete breakdown.
I will add solved after a few more log ons.
Hi, samson, could you suggest a non intrusive antivirus program, as avast is not closing properly on shutdown. i remember that you are using older version of avast antivirus. Are you still continuing with the same version. Or have you changed to other av. I tried bitdefender free version, but it asks for ie upgrade to the latest version.
Hoping my solution lasts for some good days.
