Shane,
I tryed your latest version of Tweaking to try and fix my issue. I keep getting error 643 in windows update. Also, when I make another user acct and switch user it shows the other user as "other" and when I login to that account by typing Username and PW. It says explorer.exe cant function when I try to access "my computer".
I am having serious issues and I do not want to format and reinstall due to the fact I have so much time and work invested into this install.
Do you have any suggestions on what I could do? Thank you!

Sounds like some things are really messed up.
The best thing is a repair install. Where Windows will be reinstalled but all your programs and data will still be there.
What version of windows are you on?

I am using Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit. How can I do that?
I attempted to upgrade my installation yesterday using the disc and it said cannot upgrade from 32bit to 64bit or from 64bit - 32bit?
Can u walk me through on how to install without losing my programs and files?
Thanks so much for your help!

Give this a read

Ok i will give this try when I get home! Hopefully this will work!
I think I understand now... the reason my disc will not work is because I have SP1 installed... And the disc does not have any info and/or is not upgraded to SP1... Does that make sense?
-
Try uninstalling SP1.
But first just follow the directions on that page. They do a good job of covering just about everything
Shane
-
I looked for an option to uninstall SP1 but could not find a way to do so? Where can I uninstall SP1?
Thanks again for your help!
Your the man!
-
Go to the add remove program section and click on show installed updates.
Shane
-
When I highlight the Service Pack the uninstall option disappears but all other updates have the option to uninstall!
-
Wonder is slipstreaming SP1 would do it for you
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/145343-slipstream-windows-7-sp1-into-installation-dvd-iso-file.html
Or you may need to try and download a untouched iso image of Windows 7 with SP1. Not a hacked copy, you already own it, just the setup cd itself.

Ok I finally got the time to try this out.
With a disc that includes SP1.
It says "You cannot upgrade from 32 to 64" and it also says "You cannot upgrade from 64 to 32". And thats the reasons I cannot upgrade my installation and perform a repair...
Any solution?
-
Your on 64bit. So your disc should be 64 bit. When trying it does it give you a list of windows versions to choose from during the setup?
Shane
-
Yea the disc I have... It says Windows Home 32 or 64 , Windows Ultimate 32 or 64.
Any of those.... I of course choose Ultimate 64... No dice
-
You need to choose the exact version you have now. Right click on computer and go to properties. What version of windows does it say?
Shane
-
thats the weird thing... it says Windows Ultimate 64
-
with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 SP1
-
Any chance of getting a screen shot when you get the error?

-
Yet when you choose which version of windows to install you are choosing the 64bit ultimate correct?
Shane
-
Correct! And this is the message I am receiving...
Never had this much of an issue repairing Windows... =-\
-
Did you do step 5 first?
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html
Shane
-
I believe I did but I will try again.
Do you think its possible to go to home 64 and back to ultimate 64?
-
You can only upgrade forward I believe.
Shane
-
Yea same error when I just tried it =-\
-
I think you just have bad luck lol
I am not sure why this isnt taking. Did you slipstream the disk or get your hands on a standard one?
Shane
-
No I downloaded a disc but I did however purchase a large enough usb drive to do the slipstream operation... Think I should give that a go?
-
Does the disk you downloaded have SP1 on it?
Shane
-
Yes Windows Home 32 and 64 SP1 and Windows Ultimate 32 and 64 SP1
-
I have a feeling they where slipstreamed in. Reading the page it says you cant use a slipstream one.
You need to get your hands on a 64 bit ultimate with SP1 already on it, an untouched one from MS.
Shane
-
hmm I don't know where I am going to be able to obtain that hahaha
-
lol shoot me an email and I will see if I can find out for you
Shane
-
I got the same error message as the pic I posted above when I tried to install using the new disc!
=-/
What gives? Hahahahahaha
-
I am not sure.
Either something is messed up with windows or your missing a step
Email me and later on I will get on chat with you and see if we can figure it out :-)

Shane,
I fixed the issue last night. I had to mount the iso with power iso (virtual drive). That was the only way I could install it correctly.
So I want to make a disc of that version I used and I cannot burn a disc or make a copy that has auto install or auto start included... If I burn a disc I have to browse files on disc to find setup.exe.
Do you know how I can burn an exact copy of the iso so it would be boot properly on disc?
Thanks again for you help!

How where you trying to run the setup before? I thought you where burning the image and running it from the disk.
Shane
-
no i was opening the iso in poweriso and then burning through poweriso (which uses nero)
-
imgburn is what I use, it should take care of you
