Tweaking.com Support & Help / Problem updating to Registry Backup 1.6.7
« on: October 27, 2013, 05:11:40 pm »
Hi Shane:
Having problems with Reg Backup 1.6.1 after updating to Win 8.1.  First attachment deals with problem locating the correct VSS service.  The second attachment deals with my attempts to update Reg Backup to 1.6.7.

I love this program, even though Windows Reliability Monitor continues to show that I encounter an error every day it runs (reported on this forum some months ago).

Hopefully the new version will solve all my problems, I just need to complete the install.

Thanks Shane.   -SA Jack

Hi Shane:
I've been using Registry Backup since it first came out, and have believed it has been running fine, with very few exceptions generally associated with VSS not loading correctly.  However, in reading an article the other day about Windows Reliability Monitor and the info in provides; I though I'd take a look since I hadn't worked with it for some time.  I was surprised to see that My usual score of 10 on the monitoring report has now dropped down to 1 or 2, and the one constant nearly every day is that it reports a critical application error associated with Registry Backup as "Stopped Working".  I frequently check the 4 backups I maintain and check for file size and folder structure consistency.  With very few exceptions (again VSS loading issues I'm sure), everything looks great.  Do you have any thought as to why this error is being reported in Windows and if there's anything I can do to prevent it, or provide to you for further information.

Thanks /Shane.   -Jack

Tweaking.com Support & Help / Understanding # of Registry Backups
« on: December 31, 2012, 06:53:49 am »
Hi Shane:
I'm having a problem with the new feature on Registry Backup that will ensure that at least some backup(s) will be preserved if someone had stopped using a daily backup for a while.  However, in my case, I'm getting more backups remaining than I would like (108 MD ea.).  The attachment below shows my configuration.  Initially I wanted to remove all backups that were 4 days or older.  It's the "Keep Backups", that is currently set for 5 that is throwing me off.  I now have 8 backups run on consecutive days.  It looks like that I'm going to max out at 9 (4 +5), is that correct?  If I were to stop running the program for a few days, then came back, would the program zap my oldest 4 and keep the remaining 5?  To get my total backups down to a more manageable number, should I consider changing the 4 to a 2, and the keepers to 2 as well.  Or does the keepers must be at least 1 greater than the oldies?I figure if I'm away and the program is not running, no changes are occurring in my registry.  If I'm going to end up with 9 backups nearly all of the time, that's a GB of space.  Not a big deal with a 1TB drive, but I came from humble beginnings in the PC world (back with the original IBM PC in '81).  Drive space has always been precious, and I'm slowly adjusting to the new reality.

Thanks for your help Shane.  You and yours have a very happy new year in 2013, and keep up the excellent product development and enhancements.  -SA Jack
