Title: MS Security Essentials -- Fails to Install

Why won't MSE install?  (See attached pic of error message.)  :confused:

Solutions offered did not work.

Am now running the all-in-one repair tool.  Any shortcut solutions?  Thanks.

When you run my repair tool are you running all the repairs?

Yes. Finished Steps 1-4. Just hit 'Start Repairs'.

After reboot, will try MSE install again.

Back shortly with results.

When you get to the repair window select them all :wink:

Ran all repairs. Still can't install MSE.  Same error message.

Just as well, I guess.  MSE let malware get through 3 weeks ago that forced me to repair install Windows 7.

I'm switching to your recommendation AV.  Avast (free).  Do you still recommend it?

Yeah I use avast. But when I install it I choose custom and I uncheck every thing except file and behavior shield. All else I dont let install :-)

Does everything else work fine like Windows updates?

Yep, all else works fine, including updates.

Windows 8 doesn't use MSE anyway, right?

It does, just a different version of it built in. I always turn it off and use Avast :wink:

I've installed Avast Pro -- and it appears to be excellent.  Leaving MSE behind.
