Title: New motherboard
Post by: vicg on May 15, 2013, 03:02:14 am
Since I had to install a new motherboard I can not access my programs etc.
I have booted in safe mode and changed file access's but still no luck.
I also note that there are several old users listed but cant get to them to delete them, is there any way this can be resolved by cleaning out all old users and resetting access rights ??

When you put the new motherboard in was it the same model as the last?

Reason why I ask is you normally can never get away with installing a new different motherboard in a system without reinstalling afterwards because the drivers for the motherboard are different and Windows will normally just blue screen.

Also what version of Windows?

I fitted a different motherboard (ASUS) and reinstalled xp also updated to SP3, I do understand about the drivers but even though I used the same user name it ignored that and set it up as new user but without my previous access rights. I tried to reinstall windows office but it says I cant because it already has one setup under a different user. All very frustrating

You cant have old profiles with the same name on the system already, otherwise Windows will see the profile and rename the profile folder to something else.

It is always better to do the install, setup what you need, then restore the old data

Otherwise you get conflicts like this where programs see the old data first and give you a fit.
