Hi there
Your Windows repair program is fantastic.
I have Windows 8, Pro, 32 bit on our HP laptop.
Since installing W8 - the Bluetooth has never worked.
I have tried re-installing drivers, etc.
I get one error message with reference to Microsoft Stacks - unable to start.
In the Wireless/Bluetooth control window, the Bluetooth is always grayed out.
Any ideas?
regards
Peter

Sounds like it is a driver problem, did you find the Windows 8 drivers for the bluetooth for that system?
Is it a store bought system? If so what model and I can see if I can find the drivers.

Shane
The HP Laptop is a 2010 model.
We upgraded to Windows 8 - 32 bit, end of last year.
If I go to HP website I can only see drivers for 64 bit W8 ?
I've tried other drivers.
So far no good.
My only reason for trying to use Bluetooth is to make use of the 3 Gig data limit (per month) in my phone - which I don't use. We are travelers (Nomads), on the road, so any extra wireless BB is handy, on top of our 12 Gig wireless ISP

If you have more than 3gb of memory you want 64 bit Windows. The limit of 32 bit is 3gb.
So HP only puts out 64 bit drivers since the system most likely has more than 3gb of ram in it.
I need the exact model and I can see what bluetooth it has and I can find another model with the same one and see if I can find 32 bit drivers

HP Pavilion dv6-2120tx Entertainment Notebook PC
Serial Number: CNF011BYH6
Product Number: WF649PA
It has 4 G memory installed.
No one has ever told me to use a 64 bit OS before??
Can I upgrade the Win 8 to 64 bit or is it a big hassle?
thanks
Peter
-
You normally cant upgrade from 32 bit to 64 bit.

Sometimes the windows 7 drivers will work with 8.
Which network card does yours have, there are 3 different ones. A lot of times the bluetooth is part of the network driver setup.

Try this one

Did the file I posted to you work?
Shane

Shane
I'll let you know tomorrow - the file you link from HP is pretty large and I try and use the local library's free wifi for this sort of thing.
I'll load it there and let you know.
Peter
-
Ok - I load the Sp45578 from HP support web site.
Tried to install same - came back and said there were issues with the bluetooth/ broadcom
Nothing has changed.
Peter
-
Looks like HP wont be making windows 8 drivers for it
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03451712&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=4098683
So we have to try another way.
Try this and see how it does :-)

I tried the Broadcom link a few days ago.
Tried it again then
Screen shot attached of result - looking for Stacks ?
I'll give it stacks !!!! Stacks of wacks !
Another idea ?
Peter
-
When I try and install the Broadcom update in the Windows update device I get this error code:
"WindowsUpdate_80070005 OR WindowsUpdate_dt000" (1)
Its an update published 17/12/2012, 1 MB in size
Peter
-
OK so a bluetooth update from ms wont even work.
Have you checked the bluetooth service to make sure it isnt disabled?
Shane
-
If I go into the WiFi /Bluetooth control panel, which enables either device to be switched on or off - the Bluetooth is always OFF and cannot be switched on. Like its disabled.
Peter
-
No, I mean in the windows services.
Shane
-
OK - I give up - where is Windows Services ?
Peter
-
Right click on computer and click manage, you will see services on the left
Shane
-
Ok - got it - switched it on
tells me the status is running.
So is that it ?

I removed so of your last post because it had personal info, like serial numbers.
After you started the service did you try reinstalling the drivers from the broadcom site again?
Shane
-
Thanks mate
I just tried the two Broadcom downloads;
neither worked.
The SetupbtwDownloadSE.exe said the Microsoft stacks were missing?
The BlueToothDriverInstaller.exe says the following message:
Creating restore point ...Done.
Patching bth.inf ...Done.
Installing driver ...
Error: System Error. Code: -536870389.
Please report it to the developers at info@bluetoothinstaller.com
Checked services - and BT is switched on
?
Peter
-
I cant find anything on that error, did you try emailing info@bluetoothinstaller.com that error and seeing what they say it means?
Shane
-
Ok
Message to Bluetooth sent -with copy of the error message - I'll let you know what they say,
Peter
-
Good :-)
I will keep working with you till we find the answer, once fixed I can make a user guide to help others with it
Shane
-
No word from Broadcom ?
Its been 7 days since I sent request for help re error message.
Is this a normal wait time?
Peter
-
Not sure, never emailed them.
Do they have a way for you to check, or did you just email them and didnt get at least an auto reply that they got your email?
Shane
-
No response at all - zip.
I just went to the Broadcom site and the nearest support office to me is Singapore - so I emailed them.
See what happens?
Peter
-
Yeah lets see what happens. If they dont respond by the end of the week we may have to forget getting any information from them.
