Hi, I'm new to posting on a forum so please forgive me if I don't do things correctly.  On my Windows 7 computer when trying to perform system restore (even manually) I get the 0x80042308 error code--it wont allow system restore.  Please, does someone have any suggestions?  Sincerely, rwill49

Windows System Restore is a wonderful tool IF & WHEN it works. But if it doesn't work then it's a nightmare (like you have experienced right now). I personally would install Tweaking's Registry Backup (RB). It only makes a backup of the registry and it's therefore more reliable than System Restore. RB has saved my "computer bacon" at least 6 times.

90% of the problems in Windows are normally in the Registry, so a reg backup is always good to have :-)
As for the system restore I have been researching how to fix it, but MS has changed it in every version of Windows and hasnt posted a single thing about what it needs or how to fix it.

Hey Willy2 and Shane, thanks so much for your replies on this subject.  I too have searched online and have yet to find a mention by Microsoft concerning a fix for this problem.  I've found others with the same problem, but so far no fix.  Thanks again!!!  rwill49
