I went to Computer Management and starte Indexing services as I have it showing on 2 other XP's I have. Don't feel bad for me, I have a Windows 8.1 too! lol But my XP's won't die and so I use them for other things. Back now to the subject. I want the icon on the taskbar so I can SNOOZE indexing while I'm busy working. As far as I know Indexing is running when it wants? How do we get the icon to show there. Thanks! Jack ":-Dx

I didnt even know it had a tray icon lol, I have never seen one. Personally I always turn search indexing off, but it is suppose to stop indexing when IO on the drive is detected and then resumes when the drive is idle.
I know you can manually open the search indexer and pause it like you want as well.

Shane I thank you for your time. Yes, it looks like a small magnifying glass and when indexing the 'glass' part of the magnifier icon is blue and pulsing. It must run indiscriminately as it slows loading of other things down. And the many time I've right clicked on it and there is a choice to SNOOZE Indexing.
Where do you do this? "I know you can manually open the search indexer and pause it like you want as well."
I'm not sure I am understanding that either but since I am on the Win8.1 machine a lot the old tricks I knew on XP's dims a little.
Thanks greatly for your times! Jack ":-Dx

Now I know what you are talking about :-)
On windows xp that is the windows search v4 that you download and install through windows updates. Thats is the one that gives the icon. :wink:

Hi, Jack;;
Please edit your first post with Solved in the beginning of thread title. It will be known as Solved. Answered just means an answer.
-
I understand your motive. But, in this language if someone has a question they go looking for the "answer" ... and when they do get there it's been answered ... but, again I acquiesce to the finer intricacies of English if you wish?
.

HI, It is not my motive, See any post by Shanes, (under any answer)and it is there. Normally, people search for topics fix, or solved as it will give them solutions .

Answered works as well :-)
Basically any word that can let a user looking for an answer will know if the thread might have the answer they need :-)
So any word like that is fine, Solved, Answered, Fixed and so on.
