Title: Still not repaired the windows update error code 80245001

Hello guys,

Thanks for you great job and a nice windows repair tool. I really appreciate it!

Unfortunately it did not repair my for 2 months lasting problem with windows update error code 80245001 - always the same code error. Have tried everything possible such as Windows update troubleshooter from Microsoft website, Microsoft Fix It, internal troubleshooter, some other tools like Fix WU. I have an ESET Smart Security 8 and it shows the PC is clean. Googled - no solutions! Your latest Windows Repair tool did not work either. Any clues and suggestions what should I do next, how can I repair this damn thing? An error occurs some seconds later after the starting "Check for updates", so quite fast. Settings seems to be ok.

My OS is Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit service pack 1.

I looked up that error message and it basically means it doesnt know why it dint install lol

Thanks for your answer! Tried it for 2 times already and this is another weird thing what I have faced . It does not show any error throughout the installation process, it does give me also an aswer that the readiness tool is installed at the end, but in fact it does not seem to be finally installed as I can´t find it later on and it does not work. It is like the tool is being automatically  uninstalled in between. Can not find it in the programs list and s.o. Any ideas?

See if opening a command prompt as an admin and entering regsvr32 wups2.dll does anything for you.

Hi Boggin,

This information on readiness tool was helpful. I did not know those details before. Anyway, I have installed it again.... please check the log. It found a number of missing Windows media samples files - I let my Wise Care 365 deleted those some time ago as unneeded - and it found an error with MSDTC.log. I believe the real reason should be in MSDTC.log, right? I have tried to repair Msdtc with a hotfix I found on Microsoft website - did not work. I guess I will be re-installing Msdtc.exe now.

Unfortunately, your suggested command regsvr32 wups2.dll did not work either. Still showing me the same windows update error.

Any ideas?

It seems strange that it is snagging sample pictures as I wouldn't have thought they would be related to WUs.

Have you tried opening a command prompt as an admin and running sfc /scannow to see what that reports ?

Same here. I just wonder if I need to reinstall all those samples to make it work or what? Wise Care 365 declared that it was safe to delte those samples before I did.

1. Have deleted the MSDTC log file and reinstalled the MSDTC.exe just as described here:

Unfortunately, did not help to kill an error.

2. Got an idea that maybe the whole problem is involved somehow with .net frameworks. Have verified the frameworks and used the repair tool - everything seems to work just fine, but result regarding the windows update error is still negative. By the way, these tools you might use also for your Windows repair tool as those might help a lot of people. Check this out here:

This whole issue with windows update started after online upgrade from vista home premium 32 to 7 ultimate 32. I dont know maybe it is somehow connected with an error?!

Please check also a windows update error log along with other reports I received after processing the above-mentioned steps as attached in .cab file. Maybe you can trace a mistake out of it with your proffessional eye?

I shall try to get a fresh sfc report also ASAP.

It's Shane who has the professional eye and will leave those to him to peruse - I get lost off in those CBS logs as does the average user.  :smiley:

I'm always wary of Betas - how did you end up with .NET Framework 4.5.3 Beta installed.

I only have up to 4.5.1 but get WUs for up to 4.5.2

Aaron Stebner probably knows more about .NET Framework than MS does as it seems to have been a life-long work.

Shane doesn't have much faith in the .NET repair tool and just uninstalls/reinstalls them - but they have to be reinstalled in sequence.

Were you able to use the article for running MSDTC tracing ?

This may seem odd, but I want you to try this.

OPen the windows disk cleaner, you might have to click the button to clean system files if this isnt in the list, but in the list you should see an option to cleanup windows updates.

MS put an update out a while back in Windows 7 where that option will cleanup and try to repair the winsxs folder and any old updates. Same thing as the dism in windows 8.

I have actually done this trick on a few systems and it worked. After you run it you will need to reboot and let it finish. Then we will try the windows updates again and if they still fail then we need to take a look at the cbs.log file to see if it can tell us why they failed. :wink:

Right Click on the CMD Command and open the CMD Command using the Administrator Account only, then try run again

Hi Boggin,

I was so busy for a week so was unable to deal with my problem.

.NET Framework 4.5.3 is there at Microsoft website, I took it from there. Verification tool confirms I have 4.5.1 and 4.5.2. It can not verify 4.5.3 yet as it is just too new.

MSDTC tracing did not help me.

I was very busy for a week time, so I was not able to deal with my problem until now.

Yeah, I have done that already today as per following instructions I found in the net:

"A clean and tidy computer is the key requirement for avoiding problems with ctm. This means running a scan for malware, cleaning your hard drive using cleanmgr and sfc /scannow, uninstalling programs that you no longer need, checking for Autostart programs (using msconfig) and enabling Windows' Automatic Update. Always remember to perform periodic backups, or at least to set restore points.

Should you experience an actual problem, try to recall the last thing you did, or the last thing you installed before the problem appeared for the first time. Use the resmon command to identify the processes that are causing your problem. Even for serious problems, rather than reinstalling Windows, you are better off doing a repair of your installation, or in the case of Windows 8, executing the DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth command. This allows you to repair the operating system without losing data.

To help you analyze the ctm.exe process on your computer, the following programs have proven to be helpful: Security Task Manager displays all running Windows tasks, including embedded hidden processes, such as keyboard and browser monitoring or Autostart entries."

So I have cleaned all Windows updates, Windows Upgrade discarded files, Windows Upgrade Log files as well. But the result is still negative with a same error. I guess my Disk Cleaner is not updated also as my Windows Update does not work since October!

I attach the CBS.log file as well. Have you been able to look into my last log files I have sent on 23.11.2014? Have you remarked anything weird there?

Hi Boggin,

Yes, I have done it with admin rights, but no luck in order to repair an error.  It cleaned quite a lot though... 1,2 GB of Windows Update files, 1,3 GB of Windows Upgrade files and 0,4 GB of Upgrade Log files.

Hi Shane,

I have done sfc /scannow already last time and have provided you a CBS.log within my previous letter. It found corrupt files, but was unable to fix those.

Today I have made these steps again and it says basically the same Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files, but was unable to fix some of them. Please check the latest CBS.log as attached. How should I fix those corrupt files, any ideas?

Most of the corrupted files are those Windows Media samples files.

I just got an idea... Is that possible that the antivirus software has something to do with a Windows Update error?

Because the CBS Log is very large, copy & paste or type the Code in Option 3 of http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html and that will just list the files it has scanned without it including all of its operations and make for easier reading.

When a sfc /scannow reports it is unable to repair some files in Win 7 you are usually looking at a reinstall, repair install or factory reset, but with a bootable USB or DVD Win 7 ISO you can perform an offboot sfc /scannow.

If you don't have a Win 7 x32bit SP1 disk you can download the ISO for your version from http://www.w7forums.com/threads/official-windows-7-sp1-iso-image-downloads.12325/page-2#post-124821 and use http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/windows-usb-dvd-download-tool to create a bootable USB/DVD.

You can change the boot order by tapping F12 (usually) as you switch on - use the cursor keys to highlight the media - insert the media and press enter.

Navigate to the Recovery Environment by selecting Repair your Computer - select Command Prompt and enter bcdedit |find "osdevice"

That is a Pipe symbol before find, then using whichever partition letter it gives, enter (assuming C) -

sfc /scannow /offbootdir=C:\ /offwindir=C:\Windows and let us know what it reports.

It shows a lot of files it needs are missing from where they should be to restore from. Doing the offline sfc might do the trick.

Ok, thanks guys... I shall give it a try... I guess there is no much of choice is left for me. Shall inform accordingly when done! I guess I should not trust my Wise Care 365 software either as it suggested to delete those sample files and it supposed to be safe.

If that doesnt work then you can do a repair install (instead of a fresh install) which will let you keep all your files. :wink:

From my links he should already have created the Win 7 bootable disk.

Win 7 only goes up to SP1 - were you thinking of the other thread dealing with Vista  :smiley:

There are some older programs not compatible newer versions unless run in 256 mode; you need to identify those which you
