Title: Windows Repair 4.4.7 Installer Malware
Post by: JasonUK on April 07, 2019, 10:31:49 am
Hi,

Latest version of 4.4.7 installer (portable version ok) is blocked by both Avast Antivirus & Malwarebytes Antimalware as embedded file irsetup.com contains Win32:Malware-gen threat.

Reverted to 4.4.6 & 4.4.7 portable version until resolved.

Thanks

I've updated to 4.4.7 on three machines all running Norton Security which didn't snag anything.

On reading your thread, I have since run a scan with the free version of MBAM on two of those machines should Norton have missed anything and each scan has come back clean.

This will have been a heuristic alert which has produced a false positive, although I'll pass this on.

I use the Pro version of the program and update through the program, but to be sure I've also tried a manual download and both Windows SmartScreen Filter and Norton have declared the download as safe.

This article describes that virus which as well as being a false positive, can also be a serious threat when real.

Disregard any advice about using Spyhunter in the article to remove this infection - the article is only in reference to what your Avast and MBAM snagged.
