Title: Cant load any internet pages. Internet connection is fine
Post by: carmencar on February 05, 2013, 11:35:37 am
Hello last night none of my internet pages would load. I have wiifii so I know it isn't my internet cause my laptop is working. I have  done 3 virus scans with 3 different programs (Malware, SuperAnti & Kaspersky) none of them have detected any problems. I reinstalled Chrome 3 times and than tired Firefox. Firefox worked for a bit but now it isn't working as well. I am at a loss as to what to do. I downloaded something and cause I cant get on the computer I cane remember, it was from you page I think. virusrepair (?????).

I have checked my profile, I am admin as well went through my add/remove buttons to see if there was anything suspicious. There was one that had the name "beefor powerpoint" I removed it as I dont remember adding it.

Please Help - Thanks

So it is happening to both firefox and chrome?

What error do you get? Just that it cant load the page or does the page stay blank?

Anyway you can download them on another machine, save them to a thumb drive and then run them on your system?

the maleware one is taking a long time. The Kaspersky one didn't find any threats :(

changed the settings on Kaspersky and it found a few threats.  Malware said there are no threats. I was able to download chrome, but it is still taking forever to load. Is there anything else I can do?

ok looks like they are working now...PHEW....and thank you. when I rebooted it, all my icons are really big and everything looks squished on my screen. went on desktop properties and fiddled around but it still seems off. Now that it is up and running is there anything I should have downloaded on my desktop in case this happens again.

ok...so it looks like I got things back to working. In doing that I have screwed up something with my resolution. I have a Samsung Sync Master BX 2250 monitor. I have tried everything (desktop properties, actual monitor functions) but it is all stretched out. Words look squished and and very tiny. and everything looks blurry. Any solutions for this?

Sorry was in bed when you posted and been working on computers all day lol

Sounds like your screen resolution got changed. Do you know how to check it?

That is ok. I have tried the usual ways (desktop properties) but it isn't making a difference, I have also tried with my actual modem setting. It is really stretched and the font seems really small and the actual font changed as well. I am just trying to figure out how this even happened. also when I scroll. it doesn't just scroll. it is like in waves down, if that makes sense (kind of like slides).

I wonder if your problems are due to bad hardware.

Is there anyway for you to take a screen shot or picture of it and post it for me so i can see what your seeing?

Ok this picture is something I just noticed on my FB page. Is this a virus thing. I have clean sweeped this thing. Is there anything else I should be doing. I was going to do a driver sweep but wasn't sure what it was and didn't want to do more damage.  I will take a pic of my screen and see if you can see it. It will probably look normal to you but it is really small and blurry to me. and the way it is scrolling is very weird.

Can you get a picture of the whole screen?

Also does this only happen in the browsers or everything?

ok hope this works. this is what it looks like when I scroll. the size of my screen and the really small font is the whole computer. it is like it is just stretched and I can't unstretch it.

Then it looks like the video card is going out or the drivers for it are messed up, also possible it is the monitor.

If you go into safe mode, open a folder and scroll does it do it there as well?

sorry, I had to go out. I will try it in safe mode. I dont think it is the monitor as it did it while I was doing all this stuff, plus it is only about 3 months old.

ok I think I figured it out. My scrolling speed on my mouse was way to low. I increased the speed and the scrolling issue is fixed. Played around with the resolution and I think it is as fine as it is going to be. I can't seem to find my "Native Resolution". Is that something that I should be able to find?

What size is your monitor? I can see what the recommend resolution is for it :-)

I measure it corner to corner and it is 21'

It is still stretched. I have taken two photos. The one where you can see it is square is the Auto setting and the one that is wide and stretched is the Wide setting. I have done everything I can. In the part where you change the screen resolution I have gone to settings and advanced and see I can fiddle with the DPI setting, but I can't seem to get that right either. it is like in the wide setting it is stretched from the side, instead of being stretched from each corner to make the resolution even, instead of long (sorry does that make sense?). Thanks for all the help.

The closest I can get it to is 1600x1200 but the font is so small I can barely see it and the left side of the scree is hidden.  SO when I look now, I can't see the back arrow.

So I had a thought. It seems like I need to get my screen on landscape not up and down. Does that make sense. On my laptop it has that option. Is this something I can do on my PC?

Yeah you can control the position of it. If it isnt in the screen settings then it might be somewhere else, on some store bought computers you will have an icon in the try by the clock, like for intel and it will have a rotation option.

I cant find it. There is something wrong again. I have done every virus scan and none of them are catching it. Do you know of any online ones that would do a clean sweep. It is freezing again and taking forever to load, I think I will just have to take it in.

the one I see when I am on Facebook is this ads to browse one. it regenerates the words add to browse over and over. It says go into extensions but there is nothing there and when I look in my add/remove programs I can't see anything suspicious there. Maybe I will re-run the ones you posted earlier now that my system seems to be working better. Are there any other downloads I can try. I hate not being able to figure things out

Have you tried to let the monitor auto adjust yet? It should have an option like that in the menu for the monitor it self.

Maximum resolution for that monitor is 1920x1080.

You might want to try setting it to 1920x1080 in windows, then use the auto screen function on the monitor itself. This has work for me in the past, not saying it will work for you, but it's worth a shot.

Something is really messed up on the system. Have you tried a repair install of Windows yet?

Hi,    Have you been able to load the internet pages previously. Have you tried system restore option in windows to revert to a previous day, when you were not having this problem. The menu is available, in accessories, system tools , and system restore. The problem would be solved.
Have you downloaded any torrent downloads. This may also affect internet settings. I experienced similarly and my internet would not load internet pages. So , I stopped downloading thro torrents.
