Hi since i downloaded the latest version of AVAST my computer has slowed up.
My computer has low resources, is this the reason AVAST sucking more?
Thanks in advance
-
Here is how I install avast.
Go tot add/remove programs and start the uninstall of avast. It will come up with an option to change what it has installed.
For me I only do the file shield and behavior shield. Everything else I uncheck. I run into to many odd problems with the others (Such as the web shield breaking and then blocking all sites, the network sheild slowing down browser games horribly and other things). And it will make a performance difference.
Try it and let me know.

Thanks Shane
Done that, helped but still slower than before.

I havent seen how their new version 8 does on slower systems.
Turn off the AV and see how it feels.

Alot smoother and faster, computer doesn't appear to be working as hard if that makes sense.

Any antivirus will slow a computer down. The question is which one will hurt less lol

Avast is one of the better ones, got to have that protection without many resources?

Nothing you can do about it to much.
I use avast on all machines. I found it took the least out of the system compared to others.

Hi, What about avira. I was using mcafee when i was in xp, but when i changed to windows 7, it does not support the 8.7 version. Tried installing 8.8 version, downloaded latest updates, but alas, the mcafee agent was missing. There is epo settings, of which i do not know much.
Avast, also slowed down for it readily enables itself by default on all the scans associated with it , about 10 scans beside real access scan. So, my pc slowed down a bit.
Now, i am using free avira. It caught about 26 virsues or pup which all other virus engines do not catch. The system also shows some improvement in speed after switching to avira free tool for six months .\
Hi, shane, what is epo. is it freely available for download
-
I dont like Avira anymore. They sold out to doing toolbars and pop ups to make their money. I dumped them.
I use avast on everything, but NOT the default install. When I install avast I do the custom install and I uncheck everything except for the file shield and behavior shield. I have seen to many bugs with thier other scanners on my customer machines.
When installed I then turn off the auto sandbox as well. These antiviruses feel they have to take over the whole machine. They dont. I want something to scan my files only and as long as you keep Windows, java and flash up to date you will be normally safe.

Hi, Thank you for excellent tips. What about mcafee, shane. Particularly enterprise editions in mcafee
-
I dont like mcafee at all. To many systems where I have had to uninstall it.
It comes down to this. Every single Antivirus has its pros and cons. None of them are perfect.
So when looking for an antivirus I wanted one that did its job without taking much of a hit on the system and one that was free for my customers.
Avast was the best that I could find to meet this. And it also has one of the fastest scanners out there.

Hi, Shane Thank you very much for your considered reply. I thought mcafee as . But the link clearly shows that yours is correct and perfect free tool. I will definitely switch to avast free edition, which i was using before and to which i have raised slowness of system queries. But surfing thro the net, so many edu inst are using that . Anyhow, avast also has the best anti root kit detector, in their inbuilt program. They also provide a single download of their anti root kit, called aswmbr, i suppose. It catches the rootkit, howsover deep in the system.
I will use avast with the settings you prescribed for effective use. Thank you and the thread opener oscar.
You give your answers after going thro so many issues , thank you and this article would no doubt immensely benefit all the users
Is there any setting adjustments in the "components" in avast free , while installing like file and behaviour selection in the sheild menu.

Hi, Could you attacj screen shot of which in the installation custom mode one has to install to have maximum protection without slow down of pc, sir,
Where is sandbox menu, i did not get when i download custom with only file and beha protection.
How to include zip file while scanning in avast free. Where those options . I do not find. Please attach some actual screen shots for these important items. I do not see additional protection button all in my installation . Waiting for your reply so that i could uninstall and reinstall it again. Thank you
-
When you start to install avast is when you do the custom. So make sure you do that.
Then to turn off auto sandbox you go to the file shield settings (Under antivirus on the left in your screen shot), in there you will see auto sandbox and you can turn it off.

Hi, Thank you. I found the answers to my query. One would go to the individual items to get the settings of their choice. Thank you once again. There is no applaud tab to give you my applause

Well, just for the sake of "saying so", I am using and truely like IObit.com Advanced System Care 6 (free, too).
I've used earlier versions of AVAST and liked the lean/mean approach they use.

Hi, Instead of opening a new thread, I am asking in the older thread in avast, My mailbox scanner reports that it is running status, but the email scanned/detected shows 0. Is there anything wrong in the settings that i miss , shane, sir, . I receive about 8 to 15 emails daily. So there should be some numbers in the email scanned instead of 0. pl

Webmail? Avast does not scan webmail, the Mail Shield only works if you use an email client.

Samson is correct on that one bud
Your webmail is scanned by the email host anyways, so no worries.
