I was also going through my services and this one was set to automatic. I changed it to manual. I looked at black vipers site but I still don't have a clear understanding of what it does. Do you?

I would keep it running.
IPsec is typically configured to use IKE or AuthIP; therefore, stopping or disabling the IKEEXT service might result in an IPsec failure and might compromise the security of the system. It is strongly recommended that you have the IKEEXT service running.

The Windows default for this service is manual.

Great thanks. I think it was set to automatic. I'll set to manual then stop it and see what happens.

Odd mine is also set to Auto. Wonder if this is another service MS changed?

I thought blackviper said windows 7 was manual and vista was auto (I put it back to that). I'll check later.

Funny part is my repair windows services I have it set to manual lol. Thats because it was listed on black vipers that way. Yet on a fresh install of Windows 7 with SP1 it is auto.
This needs to be looked into more.

Alright, I couldn't find out what it was supposed to be by the great gazooogle (some say auto, some say manual), so I went to the next best thing,...... my brothers computer, he doesn't tweak it or anything, heck he will not even let me tweak it for him, he just wants it to work he says. I had him look through his and it is started and on auto. He is using windows 7 service pack 1. Hope this helps.

Looks like I should change that to auto in the repair then :-)
