Title: Static IP/ Reserved Address

Hi Shane,

I have set up a static IP address on my computer 192.168.0.200 (within the DHCP pool, but at the higher end, I read what you've said about this elsewhere  :wink:).

I have also set up a reserved IP address on my router 192.168.0.200 for the same machine.

It all seems to work just fine, but I wanted to check that this seems OK? Do I need both, or could this be problematic?

If you reserved it in the router then it doesnt need to be static on your computer as your router will always give that IP to your system based on the mac address.

Normally I just do a static IP, but this is with my tower.

If it is a laptop and you travel then a static IP on the wireless means you have to disable it when you connect to another network, if that is the case then the reserved in the router is the way to go :wink:

Thanks for the information and advice. It's for a desktop PC, so I will remove the static IP and just use reserved IP address from the router.
