Hello Fellow members,
I am nearly a pensioner and a relative novice in computing.I am having problems with windows 7 update errors 8007005 and 8000ffff.I have tried manual install. All the microsoft fix it tools some of which tell me my errors are fixed when in fact they are not.I am a member of the Which computing mag and on line help service. They gave advice but with no results.I have run The Tweaking.com repair tool again with no joy.sfc /scannow told me i had corrupt files which could not be fixed. To add to this a window keeps popping up telling me my windows 7 home premium is not genuine. When i go into my computer it tells me my windows is activated and shows me my id number.I have rung Microsoft and they confirmed my windows 7 is genuine so why the pop ups.For £65 they can fix all my problems. If members or Tweaking.com can help this grey haired old man then it would make my day and you would put one over on all these so called experts.

Sounds like you have a lot of corruption in your Windows install.
The best thing to do is a repair install, which keeps all your programs and files.
First you need a Windows 7 cd with SP1 on it, you can grab that here
https://sites.google.com/site/linuxlablibrary/windows-iso
Then simply follow this guide

Good Morning Shane,
Many Thanks for taking the time and trouble to sort me out.Out of all the experts you are the only one to not only give me a practical solution but you have shown me where to get all the download and installation details.Your help and advice has been very much appreciated.
I have gone on to the tutorial site and one thing it mentions is to be sure to have the Device Drivers ready to re-install.Please can you show me how to do that.

You should be ok, the drivers normally carry over.
Only driver that matters is the network driver, that way afterwards you can get online and download what you need. Normally network drivers transfer over fine :-)

Hello Shane,
I would very much appreciate your help please.I have made and booted from the disc and have got as far as the Compatability window. This says remove installation disc which i have done.Re-start computer so that windows starts normally. So i switched it off at the on/off button and then switched it back on using the same button so that windows starts normally. It then says to insert the installation disc which i did i can hear it working and the green side light on the harddrive is flashing. But nothing comes up on screen to allow the installation to go further. What am i doing wrong.

Is there any chance for you to get a picture of what you are getting?
Shane

So Sorry shane i do not know how to do that.

You can either take a picture with your phone or if your still in Windows and you can access the desktop you can do this

Thank you for your help.Unfortunatly i do not have a mobile phone.I will try my best with the information you have sent could take me a while.
But i still cannot understand why i have to remove the disc and reinstall it.Surely once i have booted from the disc the installation should carry on until the finish.
With many Thanks for your patience and time.

OK, how are you starting to setup? You should be running it from within windows first.
And what info does the compatibility window say? Does it say you have a program or something it doesnt like? Thats why I wanted a screen shot so I can see what it is complaining about and then I can see what step to have you do next :-)

The Compatability report window says.
The computer started using the windows installation disc.Remove the installation disc and restart your computer so that windows starts normally.
Then insert the installation disc and restart the upgrade.(do not select custom advanced to perform an upgrade.Custom installs a new copy of windows and deletes advanced programmes and settings
This is word for word as it says in the window.

Ah! Make sure the computer isnt booting off the CD.
It looks like it is booting off the cd when you reboot instead of the hard drive.

Hello Shane,
Sorry for the late reply but for some reason i could not connect to your website to read your message until now.I have put the cd in switched the laptop on and booted by pressing the F12 key.IS this correct .Can you give me a step by step what to do.Thanks
Zac1

No you dont boot off the cd. Read that guide step by step. You start the setup while inside Windows. The repair install is just like an upgrade.

Your system is set to not show known file extensions. SO setup.exe will only show up as setup.
But that is the right file your looking for
