So I tried just about everything to get Windows Firewall working after an unidentified virus attacked my system running Windows 8 64 Bit. I used Maleware Bytes to get rid of it, but was left with a slew of non-working programs; the most serious being the firewall.
I did the following;
Went to restart Windows Firewall Service - Service did not exist.
Ran Scripts to restore the Windows Firewall Service -Worked.
Ran Scripts to fix the "Access Denied" error -Worked.
Ran Scripts to fix the "File Cannot be Found" Error -was not successful.
Ran SFC /Checknow - Failed at 62%.
Ran DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth - Failed "Could not connect to Source".
Ran Windows Update - Succeeded, but did not affect Firewall.
Ran Tweaking.Com Firewall Fixer - Did not do anything after I restarted.
Ran Tweaking.com Windows Repair & Went to bed.
Just turned on the computer, and it said it was going to restart in 1 min.
Restarted and guess what pops up?
Windows Firewall - Do you want to allow Java to access the network?
It worked!!!.
