Have tried to backup from windows and also from Norton and both failed on final disk. Am backing up to (E) on DVD. Get this message: An attempt was made to reference a token that does not exist. (0x800703F0). Have searched web for answer and find nothing to help resolve this. Anyone have a clue what this is & how to fix? Using Vista Home Prem. 32-bit SP2.Thanks. Rod

So your backing up to a dvd? Does it happen if you try to backup to just a file or folder instead?

Shane, I havn't tried that yet. But, after hours of effort to find some clue on this, I find Registry Cleaner Pro under APPData>Roamintg>Systweak>Registry Cleaner Pro>Version 6.1>Partial Backups. Click on Partial Backups gives=RMX file 0000001.rmx and RXB file 0000001.rxb. If I click either, it quickly shows entry in registry but won't open. I think it is an infection causing this. I removed Reg. Cleaner Pro months ago using their uninstall. This file seems to not have been deleted. By the way, I have a PAF program that often asks do I want to backup files and when I click yes, It backups in a folder in my docs. I have 18 gigs to backup and takes long time and I don't want to waste more dvds on a failure. Thanks. Rod

You should really move away from dvds and use an external hard drive.
Cds and DVDs are made show cheaply now that they start to fall apart after a few years.
Do you have an external drive you can try backing up to? My reason is to rule out if the problem is simply with the dvd burner or the dvds themselves.

Shane, I do not have an external drive.

Gonna get one this weekend at Best Buy. Will try & let you know .

Worked. Thanks.

Good to hear :-)
And as you may have noticed the backup should be a lot faster now as well since a drive is a heck of a lot faster than burning to dvd

Yes. The Toshiba 1TB is USB 3 and 2 capable. My machine has USB 2, so my machine is slower than the Toshibe is capable of. DVDs took over 4 hours before they hung up. The external drive took about 80 mins. I still don't know what a "token" is? Or why DVDs hung up??? Rod

Could just be the burner not being able to burn the dvds and the error you get simply isnt stating that.
USB 2.0 has a max rate of 25 mb/s and usb 3.0 will let the drive go as fast as it can.
But 25 mb/s a is still far better that the speed of dvd.
Personally I stopped using dvd once I outgrew more than one disk. Stick with the external drive.

I'm from the old school. I don't go to "next level" with computer technology unless I have to. I get use to one thing and problems with it force me to next level. Heck, I want W98 back! LOL But, happy with ext. drive. Thanks for the "kick in the but" to make me move closer to 21st century. BTW, ms Mrfixit found and fixed issues with cd/dvd drive. Believe that's why it often rejected cds. Had to try several before it accepted one out of the same new pack. Getting time for new pc. Thanks and Merry Christmas to you and your family. Rod.
