Hi Shane
My PC is slow to load at the welcome screen. I've recently removed Microsoft Security Essentials and loaded Avast 7. Do you think it could be Avast slowing it down or should I update Nvidia drivers?
Chris

Avast shouldnt be the slow down.
Apply my tweak that has windows tell you what it is loading at the welcome screen. This should help you look in the right direction by seeing what is taking the longest to load

It happens during "Preparing your Desktop"

Reboot again, when it hits that part make note of the time on your phone or clock.
Once loaded go check the event viewer under system and application and see if you see anything.

One thing stands out in system, "error Service control manager event log provider". Ok so what service did I turn off

I think I got it, Workstation was off and Server was off. Also it turns out need the I need the SSDP Discovery service running. One other error have under system in event viewer is "volmgr". When I check out details it says "crash dump initialization failed". Could it be my pagefile is set to low. It's set static at 428 meg with 3 gigs of ram installed.

Got volmgr worked out to. Had to put check on "Write an Event to the System Log" under start up and recovery in the advanced system options. Man, talking to you about how to fix my pc problems sure gets me going on different rabbit trails. I got all of my event errors and warnings fixed. Thanks Shane.

Hi
I would check the event viewer and see what is causing the slow down first (Shane had me do that for my problem, doooaaaa....don't know why I didn't that at first). 2nd how many start up programs do you have loaded. 3rd, which anti virus are you using, some are more heavier on resources than others.

That EdwardMoore was a spam bot. You can always tell because they will have bull crap links in their posts or signature.
That one has been banned :-)
Glad to you hear you found the problem and got things working :-)

Can you post the error message itself in the event viewer?
Shane
