Hi
Apologies in advance for being a complete dunce here but nothing happens when I try to install Windows Repair? I have downloaded the exe file three times now and double click the file with no response. My PC runs XP SP2. I can run other exe files with no issues. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks
George

Not sure if it is required to run Tweaking.com - Windows Repair (All in One) v3.0.0, but you should grab SP3 (see below) or via Windows Update.

You really, REALLY should install SP3 on XP. Some of the commands I use and controls, use some API calls that where available in XP SP3 and newer versions of Windows.
But besides that, MS had put in a LOT of performance enhancements and bug fixes in SP3, not to mention the insane amount of updates AFTER SP3.
I havent tested my windows repair in SP2, I only tested it in XP sp3, so it is possible the installer also needs SP3, again I never checked on SP2 for that. So you could download the portable version and extract it and try that.
May I ask, why are you still on SP2?

Thanks for the update.
I was given the laptop I use. It has no Windows disks and no history. So I have not tried to perform any Windows updates in case it stops working.
As advised, I will try the portable version and let you know.
Thanks

I would at least get SP3 installed, which you can do manually :-)

As advised, I tried the portable version and the exe file ran okay.
Ran Option 2 which highlighted some issues which I updated.
Option 3 got me to run a boot-up check disk.
Did not try Option 4.
Ran Repair which completed but come up with quite a few error messages during the process. Are details recording in a log file?
I rebooted my laptop and everything seems okay. Speccy.exe/Piriform now runs without any error message.
Thanks for your help and advice.

Forgot to ask.
If my laptop has not got a genuine version of Windows can I still install SP3?
Thanks

Something I have just noticed is that all my Word documents were linked to open with WordPad and not Word. I have amended this.

I thought I removed that, it is from the repair new sub menu, it puts back the default registry keys and for some reason changes the doc file to open with wordpad again. Easy fix is to just right click on a doc file, go to open with, click choose default program, choose word and put a check on make this the default and its all fixed.
I will double check that I removed that from the repair.
