Title: Windows 7 updating issues

There is an issue that I am currently having with my Toshiba laptop. I am running Windows 7 x64 bit service pack 1.
Back in November when I attempted to update iTunes to the most current version was when things started acting strangely on my computer and when I began to notice that there was an issue. I am currently a college student and have been very busy with working and attending school that I am only now finding the time necessary to sit down and really figure this problem out.

I have recently contacted Windows support and the only help they could give me after working with them for over two hours was that I could "possibly try rebooting my operating system, but it is not guaranteed to solve the issue" which would wipe my entire drive and who knows if it would even take care of the issue. I have only realized the magnitude of the issue that I am dealing with within the last month or two. What sketched me out the most was when the Windows tech assistant was remote controlling my computer and ran a scan and could not find a thing. The problem with what Windows suggested is that I prefer not to wipe my computer drive and wipe everything because I have nearly 300 gigs of music on my drive that I cannot be sure if I will be able to access again.

I had copied all of my music library onto an external WD hard drive before iTunes decided to take a hiatus on me. This sounds great and all but apparently I wrote my password down incorrectly to access my drive. (I have tried everything to get it correct.) I set my drive to automatically unlock when it connects to my Toshiba but I potentially will lose my music if I wipe my drive and this takes out my WD drivers set to remember my passwords. It would also be great to access my library on other computers. In regards to solving my WD issue, I have to restore my drive and re-copy everything back onto it but I cannot get onto iTunes to achieve this so I am currently stuck at an impasse. I have currently been working with someone from the BleepingComputer forum but she has never repaired windows through the method that is seeming to be required. (We have discovered that my .NET framework is somehow nonexistent.) I also must note that my OS has been pre-loaded on my computer and I DO NOT have the discs. The girl I was working with had me order recovery discs through Toshiba but then went on to say that they are not useful in what I am dealing with.

Hopefully I have explained all of this adequately. Can someone please help me?

if not download the program and run it in safe mode with networking.

I needed .NET version 3.5 (which I believe is recommended as stock) but we could not get any versions to download.

You normally get the Never checked for updates when the SoftwareDistribution Folder has been renamed to .old as it removes the update history.

And should I try to download the .NET in conjunction with the windows updates or wait until (hopefully) after they update?

sfc /scannow
if it finds corruption that it can't fix
I need you to go to C:\windows\logs\CBS copy the cbs.log and paste to your desktop then upload it so I can view it and see what we need to do next :smiley:

Yes that will take a while as the windows updates is rebuilding itself from scratch, so the first scan after the repair is long lol

Great to see the updates got installed, I do see an error sometimes after installing a lot, I wouldnt worry about it yet, just reboot and then check for updates again. Sometimes there is an update that makes one of the others not needed or have to wait till the next reboot.

Post by: Boggin on June 09, 2015, 08:43:41 am: Not so long back following a factory reset I got a 643 and a 66a error and after running the .NET Framework Repair Tool, started the update install again and while they were installing, I ran MS's auto Fix its for both error codes and the updates were successful.

If so try the .net repair tool from MS, I myself have never had it work, but for some it has, depends on what is broken. Otherwise the best way to fix .net is to completely remove it and install it fresh, which there is a tool for that we can use as well.

Boggin, I believe that I have tried all of the methods on that same thread and none of them have worked.

I added an easy .net 4.5.2 install to my google drive. download it and and unzip run the Automated-Install-Script as admin. reboot and let me know what happens :D
its 86 mb so it may take awhile to download its all the updates with it :wink:

I am so happy. I finally successfully downloaded iTunes and it opens! Now if we could just make sure everything is working properly (including that last important update), I should be good to go!!

after running system update readiness tool go to
C:\windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log upload that log.

(Outcome 1)If I see everything is good in that log you can try to re-run windows update. And see if everything updates good.

(Outcome 2)If I see anything in that log that tells me system update readinenss tool failed to fix the corruption of CBS Manifest.

I'll upload the proper .msu to my sky drive for you to download
Then you will need to Create a directory at C:\Windows\CheckSur\packages
Copy the downloaded msu file there
Re-run System Update Readiness Tool
we almost have you fixed and ready to go! lol :cheesy:

You would of had that installed a long time ago, unless Windows updates thinks it isnt installed for some reason but when it goes to install it sees it is and just errors out. This might just be a hicupp and you can just hide this update. The fact that it shows up 3 years after its release makes me think that. You would of had this installed a long time ago.

This normally lists one or more missing for me when I've ran Disk Cleanup as an admin.

You would of had that installed a long time ago, unless Windows updates thinks it isnt installed for some reason but when it goes to install it sees it is and just errors out. This might just be a hicupp and you can just hide this update. The fact that it shows up 3 years after its release makes me think that. You would of had this installed a long time ago.

I'd recommend you updating the Adobe and Java bits though for security reasons.

Seems that everything is working properly. iTunes is alive and well and my Microsoft updater is updating properly. I even got the popup for installing Windows 10 so I am pretty pumped for that.
