Title: cbs logs_makecab.exe
Post by: mrwoof on September 14, 2016, 05:42:27 am
I came across an interesting article on over size Cbs log file, due to issues with the action of CAB compressor (makecab.exe).

http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/windows-bug-may-accumulated-junk-files-pc/

I attch my CBS.log file as I see entries like :
2016-09-14 13:06:00, Info                  CBS    SQM: Failed to start upload with file pattern: C:\WINDOWS\servicing\sqm\*_std.sqm, flags: 0x2 [HRESULT = 0x80004005 - E_FAIL]
2016-09-14 13:06:00, Info                  CBS    SQM: Failed to start standard sample upload. [HRESULT = 0x80004005 - E_FAIL]

What is happning here ?

Running W 8.1 and stable.
Am I right to assume that ccleaner removes the bloated Cbs persist log files ?

Someone else had reported this problem last year and while Shane had created a program to find which files were missing, you may have to opt for a Refresh or Reset, but run these commands and then run another sfc /scannow if the /checkhealth says the volume is repairable.

dism /offline /cleanup-image /checkhealth

dism /offline /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup

dism /offline /cleanup-image /restorehealth

exit

Reboot and run another sfc /scannow.

The link for Shane's program is in http://www.tweaking.com/forums/index.php/topic,2709.0.html
