Title: XP System File Check - Wrong CD
Post by: trafficking on November 30, 2011, 09:50:00 pm
I am tyring to do a system file check in XP sp3.  I have tried an OEM disk and a retail XP disk, however, both report the error: "The CD you provided is the wrong CD" any suggestions?

fwiw I'm cleaning up after a zeroaccess infection.

Did you install windows with a XP cd that had SP3 already on it? If so you need the same CD.
Or because SP3 is on there you just need a CD with SP3 on it.

First make sure you use the OEM or retail based on which one was installed. If you go to properties of my computer, on that tab if it has OEM in the product code then use the OEM disk.

Then give this a read on how to make your own SP3 xp cd :-)

It's a Dell and has OEM in the product key.  Judging from the year of the model, I assume the initial install would of been sp2 and was later patched to sp3.  I will slipstream sp2 into an xp disk and if that does not work I will try to find an older Dell sp2 OEM cd.  I'll let you know if either works out.  Thanks for the help!
