Title: Registry Backup- Failed
Post by: wingingit2 on April 01, 2017, 06:33:53 pm
When backing up the registry, with Tweaking.com, I get an error "The last scheduled backup had errors or failed" see attached jpg.

Please help.

Can you run a command prompt as an administrator and enter chkdsk /f to see what that reports.

You will be prompted to enter y for it to run on the next restart, then enter shutdown /r /t 00 to effect an immediate reboot and wait for it to run.

If you watch it until it completes, you should be able to catch what it reports - especially if it reports any KBs in bad sectors.

However, if you don't, go Start - type eventvwr and press enter.

Ensure Event Viewer (Local) is highlighted in the left pane and when it has read the data, expand Windows Logs - click on Application - Action/Find then type chkdsk or wininit into the Find box and press enter.

Cancel the Find box and read the report in the scrollable window.

Also, check Event Viewer for any time stamped Errors for when you got this error.

To view those, click on Error then on Show All Instances of This Event in the lower right pane.

It might be this.
I am having trouble installing  an update to a program and clicked on the installer in the original install folder. The problem is a DLL missing. It works in safe mode but won't complete because the print spooler won't start in services.

Okay - can you run the Windows Repair program and just select Repair 21 and then check if that error still pops up after a reboot.

It doesn't look like it. I did an export from regedit and that worked, but I don't think that is the same thing. See attachement.

I thought that event ID may have been related.

I'll pass this on but it could be a couple of days before you get a response.

It could be something on your system that doesn;t like the shadow copy backup (best way)

When you click for a backup , that starts automatically. There is a button for "Use Fallback Method"  Click that and see if that helps.

- Check when you start your system whether or not there's a process called "Backup failed" in Task Manager (assuming you let the program make a backup upon start up)
- Ignore the error/warning and just run the repairs of Windows Repair. Make sure you - at least - run repair #19 (repair Volume Shadow Copy) and try if the error pops up again.

Not fall back method didn't help. I ran chkdsk again and then it worked, once. I think I was in safe mode at that time. I just tried not in safe mode and it failed. Tweaking.com has fixed many of my problems so I may just forget it for now.
