Title: 08 - Repair MDAC/MS Jet fails
Post by: phochief on December 29, 2017, 10:55:10 pm
Everytime I run tweaking repair, it gets stuck on 08 - Repair MDAC/MS Jet

There is only low sporadic cpu activity every 15 seconds at this point, and the drive writes a bit sporadically too.  I'm running Tweaking Repair in a Safe boot window.  Here's what it says the the log window:

08 - Repair MDAC/MS Jet
   Start (12/30/2017 1:33:05 AM)
Running Repair Under Current User Account
   Running Repair Under System Account

The current repair has failed to start for over 30 sec.

Done, but failed, at (12/30/2017 1:44:03 AM)
   Total Repair Time: 00:15:55

The current repair has failed to start 4 times.
Something is keeping the repair from running.

Try running the repairs in Windows Safe Mode. (This will keep 3rd party programs from getting in the way of the repairs)
If the repairs still fail then please post in the Tweaking.com forums for support.

Thanks for any insight or bug fix.

If you use Office, go into Programs and Features by going Start - type appwiz.cpl and press enter.

Right click on Office and select Repair, but if it isn't Office related then I'll pass this on to see what else can be causing it.

Perhaps I should start a new  thread but  I  have  exactly the opposite issue.
08 has been running for  two hours now.
How long should I let it run?
What's the best way to exit it if I give up on it?

I realized a bit more info might be useful.
The program does do a brief CPU usage and Drive Write every 7 seconds.
And, if it matters, I do have a database with a lot of entries.

Yes, you should open your own thread as the reasons could be different.

It may well be because of the size of your database but as long as the CPU is still working, Shane has said before that the program is working.

I can't tell you when to give up on it because that may be normal for your machine.

As there have been a couple of complaints about this repair, I'll pass it on.

EDIT - Try the earlier versions to see if the repair will run, which you can find links for lower down on the right at https://filehippo.com/download_tweaking-com-windows-repair/

I didn't experience any problems with 4.0.10 or 4.0.11 or as far as that repair with 4.0.12, but I'd start with 4.0.10.

tested v4.0.10, the problem persist, no solution!
now i want to ask:

1) is possible to have a log of repair to see if something is failed and send to you ?
2) i can try old v3.x software repairs ?

tell me!

There's no reason why you can't try an earlier version but that website only has 3.9.4 as its earliest version.

I could expect this problem to occur on Win 10 given its transformation and it may have been the way the program has been developed to accommodate the changes made for Win 10.

I'll create a system image of my Win 7 machine and run 4.0.12 to see if I get the same problem and report back.

I don't think the language makes a difference as you aren't the first to report 08 not executing.

Update - While the repairs are still running, they sailed through 08 so I am unable to replicate the hang on this repair.

Did you perform a chkdsk /r and sfc /scannow before proceeding with the repairs in Safe Mode with Networking ?

i do not have any hang in this repair, repair complete their process but the problem with ADO using Test_MDAC.exe is unsolved by me! i try also chkdsk and sfc, i try also in safe mode, i try all possibilities but i really does not know why error is not solved!

Are you using an OEM or purpose built machine ?

It may be possible to perform a repair install but you will need to have a valid product key such as the one on the COA sticker if it's still legible.

If using an OEM machine and you have the COA sticker key, you can change the product key to that by going Start - type Slui 3 and press enter then enter that key.

If you don't have a Win 7 install disk that includes SP1 then you can download the ISO and use Windows USB/DVD Burner Tool.

http://windowsiso.net/

I think these ISOs include SP1 - hover over Win 7 ISO then Download and select your version and select Save.

http://wudt.codeplex.com/ - this is for the burner tool.

I'll ask why it hasn't repaired MDAC but need more info to pass on.

Do you have anything in Event Viewer recorded for this or the error message you can post ?

Have you tried 3.9.4 ?

I'm asking what are those that produce this error so that I can pass on more details.

only "Test_MDAC.exe" give me this error, all other app simple crash with no reason! but of course before ADO problem on my pc those apps works without problem!

I assume you don't have a restore point that would take you back to before this problem ?

I've come across an old thread where Shane is helping someone with this error 91 where he has attached the ADO files from his Win 7 x64.

Perhaps you could create a restore point and try those and then run Windows Repair.

Ah well - I'll pass this on that repair 08 isn't repairing and that you continue to get error 91.

Even Shane is suggesting a repair install in that thread.

That would take about 2½hrs if it's successful.

I say that because my Toshiba keeps getting so far and then rolling back, so I've never been able to perform one.

You could still give 3.9.4 a try though.

Can you attach that in a compressed zip format as I don't have anything installed that will extract a .rar file.

Not everyone has access to another compatible machine, but how did they differ to the ones that Shane had attached in his earlier thread that didn't work for you ?

Thanks - I hadn't expanded what he had attached.

I'll pass on what you have posted and perhaps they can be incorporated into the repair program.
