Title: Undo repair option
Post by: bernardd on January 03, 2018, 04:47:54 am
Hi,

I tried repairing my windows with tweakrepair but it's worse then before i started the program. Is there a wizard to revert all the changes the program did? I cant find it anywhere.

Thanks,
Bernard

Yes, you would use the Backup Tools section in the program, click on Restore under Registry Backup - click on the Registry Restore tab then use the dropdown to select the back up then click on Restore Now, but do it in Safe Mode with Networking.

What are you experiencing after running the program and what were the problems with your system prior to running the program and which version of Windows are you using ?

I went to my computer and made a new directory for the temp map and set it to that map. The program then started. I was able to revert the changes (registry backup) and the computer works as before. The reason i started the tweaking program was because i was unable to run windows update , even after everything i tried (ms fixit tools and what nots)
I tried the tweak program on a sbs 2011 server , dangerous, i know, but its my own server, no one elses ;)
I think where everythings going wrong is when the program sets all the permissions on the files.

Thanks for your quick reply!

Shane has warned about using it on a sever as it could cause anomalous problems, but glad you were able to get back.

Have you had update problems before ?

I don't know what sort of commands you would apply to your system to repair the updates - I'm not familiar with servers.

Have you tried Windows own update troubleshooter ?

I decided to have a Google and came across this article which hopefully will resolve your update problem.

I have never had any issues with the updates, also because i dont do anything to the server except for checking if it still runs. Funny thing is that windows update now seems to work again, for me proove how crappy this whole update process works but hey.. who am i.
Again, thanks!

Ah well :)

I wonder if it was a DNS thing, but glad things are back to normal for you.
