Title: Ethernet Not Recognized Immediately on Boot Up
Post by: layne81 on July 07, 2021, 08:04:07 pm
Guys,

I have an Ethernet connection on my PC with no wifi card. I am hard wired to the router... My issue is... If I restart my PC then once in the windows login screen... Windows does not recognize Ethernet or internet connection until like 2-3 mins later.... Very delayed...

Is there a way to fix this?

Thanks in advance,
Layne

Can you see what happens in a clean boot should it be something in your Start-up menu that isn't being cleared on the restart.

You could also try resetting your network adapter by opening a Command Prompt (Admin) or Powershell (Admin) and entering these cmds -

netcfg -d

shutdown /r /t 00

Then see how it connects after the reboot.

However, create a restore point before running those cmds.

Can you try a different Ethernet port on the router to see if that resolves.

I'm not sure if this could be a DHCP or DNS issue and was hoping changing the ports may have helped.

Open a Command Prompt (Admin) or Powershell (Admin) and enter these cmds -

netsh winsock reset

netsh int ip reset reset.log txt

ipconfig /release

ipconfig /renew

ipconfig /flushdns

ipconfig /registerdns

shutdown /r /t 00

Then see what it's like after the reboot.

If that doesn't resolve can you go into Event Viewer to see if it has recorded anything.

When Event Viewer opens, ensure Event Viewer (Local) is highlighted in the left pane - if it isn't then just click on it.

When it has read the data, click on Error then on View All Instances of This Event in the lower right pane.

Clicking on any will give more details in the pane below.

Boggin,

Thanks for all of the suggestions.

I tried what you outlines in your last post... unfortunately still no dice...

I have no connection to internet until after 1 minute after startup.

Thanks,
Layne

In your opening post you said it was taking 2 - 3mins but after changing ports, that is down to one minute so perhaps it lies with the router.

Is the delay now on start up as well as after a restart ?

Switch off your PC and router and remove all power cables as well as the Ethernet cable.

Leave those off for about 30mins then switch just the router on.

When all of the lights are on, Ethernet connect and switch the PC on.

You may want to try a different router port.

When everything is back up and running, reboot to see if there is any improvement.

Those steps power cycle the router but leaving it off for 30mins should give you a new external IP address.

I can make a note of your current IP address and compare it when you post next after the recycle and reboot.
