Title: Windows Repair (All In One) - Malicious site and Viruses
Post by: Pierre (aka Terdef) on January 25, 2013, 01:55:38 pm
Hi,

I have already seen http://www.tweaking.com/forums/index.php/topic,634.msg4313.html#msg4313

Today, I was about to write a paper about Windows Repair (All In One) in my pages about Security and Privacy.

Using VirusTotal service on the versions portable and with installer of Windows Repair (All In One), here is what I have found :

http://assiste.free.fr/Assiste/Windows_Repair_All_In_One.html#Windows_Repair_All_In_One_Utilisation

I must defer the writing of this paper while waiting for your inquiry (even if I think that they are false positives).

MSinet.ocx is a Microsoft file :-) You will notice none of the other AV's flag it. esafe is known for a LOT of false positives.

Also you will see from the website you sent that they are flagged with "GEN" in the virus name. That stands for generic and is almost always a false positive.

My site and forums would not be getting so popular if I had viruses. Microsoft's own support forums have started sending people to my repair tool :-)

Also when only 1 or 2 AV's flag a file and none of the others do you can bet it is a false positive as well.

Now when you scan a file and you have a ton of them on virustotal flag it then you know you got a virus

Now notice the differences in the false flaggs between the setup.exe and the portable zip file?

This is because a few of these lesser known AV flag the setup because it is compressed. And again flagged with the "GEN". The setup program is make with Setup Factory 9.

If ANYTHING on my site had a virus all the big boy AV's would be flagging the crap out of it

Besides that my site would never grow to what it is if I did viruses. Both my sites are done by word of mouth.

Please do not publish anything negative about Tweaking .com, i am not affiliated with them , just an inept computer user always running into problems . I have tried just about every service out there and Shanes services are the best , no question about it.

Shanes programs are always an editors choice on sites like Major Geeks and others , his programs do not contain any malware of any kind (this is fact) .

I have recommended his services to everybody i know and anybody who wants the best should do the same. To offer these outstanding programs for free is so generous and i encourage anybody that can afford to donate to please do it.

There are not many people who are as willing to share their expertise and good will as this gentlemen does, he truly cares about helping his fellow man and is really something special.  I wish more in todays world had his character.

Hello,

As I wrote, I think they are false positives.

I also noticed the difference between the installable version and the portable version. This leads me to blame the installer rather than the installed application.

However, @cnnashman, it is absolutely no question of making the ostrich.

My pages have been classified, by some observers, as the most important and credible world resource, for the public, in the field of security and the protection of privacy on the Internet (one of my website, in this field, is 70.000 pages). I start a new site and there will be no compromise or lack of objectivity on my part.

I'm ASAP (http://assiste.free.fr/Assiste/ASAP.html).

If I talk about Windows Repair (All In One), on my pages, it is because I believe in it and his future.

For 15 years, I always recommend to analyze a download before opening it. This is what users will do. Since the emergence of multi-antivirus services, I recommend the systematic use of them, and I even recommend installing VTZilla that allow analyze a site and the download before you download it.

My intention is not to say something bad about a product (not about the site or his admin), but to observe and advise the author to contact the antivirus makers. It is essential to do so before an aggressive or silly user destroy the product in your back, on forums or pages that you do not care. I prefer to tell you in the face.

Honesty is the cornerstone of trust, @ cnnashman. Turn a blind eye or develop fanaticism is dangerous and leads to lack of professionalism and failure.

I understand and do not let fanaticism cloud my judgement, the internet has been a positive tool and negative tool but the fact remains far too many people use it to spread BS (if you will) over a minor misunderstanding and thats extremely unfortunate .

Like i said my comments are from doing and trying many many different programs and corresponding with people in the tech field, and it is not only my opinion but the opinion of so many top techs in this industry that Tweaking .coms programs are top shelf across the board.

All i ask is don't rush to judgement.  Shane is always referred to as a step above by his peers and that says something.

Appreciate your understanding though Pierre

It is ok :-)

People who don't know my programs should always test them. And false positives do happen all the time. So he came here to ask. That was good, he could have just believed the false positives and never posted. But he didn't and came and asked :-)

Hello
I echo cnnashman's comments.
I have used Shane's products on regular occasions and find them to have integrity - they say what they do and do what they say.
It is of course wise to question something you find suspicious but after looking over all the evidence and knowing the value of the products, it is also, wise and courteous to be grateful for the person who is creating such fine quality work.
My machines work much better since I have had the opportunity to use these programs.
