Yesterday I bit the bullet and did a clean reinstall of XP Pro on my PC. It's still a little squirrely, with a jumpy cursor and pages suddenly blinking in and out. I may have picked up a bug somewhere. Today, I began putting all the MS updates back in. After reinstaling some of my apps I was trying the Shortcuts on my Desktop; some work, some don't. When I tried tweaking.com It asked if I wanted to upgrade it; I said OK. Running it now and I see it is doing pretty much everything I have already done, (sfc /scannow, etc.) I don't know if it would have saved me or not, since I ran SFC before, trying to avoid a reinstall. It seems rather slow, but I have the time to get it right, so it's ok. I truly appreciate your effort. This is no small project, for sure. Most fixit programs I have tried ended up just making a bad situation worse. I will let you know how it turns out, maybe tomorrow.
