Hi,

I don't know if i should create a new thread or not.
A few minutes ago I downloaded the latest version 2.6.2 'all-in-one-windows repair'. I ran the 3rd option to check for disk errors.

No matter how many times i run it from the tweaking program it says errors found.
But if i run the chkdsk from cmd as an admin, it says no errors. I even did several boot time tests that didn't pick up the errors.

I have attached an event log from all chkdsk logs: from read only (cmd), boot-time and from tweaking program.

I just want to confirm which is true.
If this has got nothing to do with the condition of my hard drive, then i will create a new thread. please let me know.

Thank you guys, I understand. I actually don't have anything on my hard drive worth saving. so i'm at ease. so i am closing this thread now.
I appreciate the responses i've got.

In this case what is SMART complaining about
. I don't know. The software ''my dell'' says that it just failed the test and the problems started after 1900 + hours since system use. In any case, i will continue to use it and when it's time to replace the hard drive, i'll just do that.

Don't understand why you wouldn't run the manufacturer's utility for your specific brand of hard drive
- i did and that's why i know it failed the smart test. Or are you talking about something else ?

oh that rings a bell. this happened a year ago, so i don't remember the details in exact

here's what happened : system crashed, could not boot . so I took it to my brother ( I wasn't so knowledgeable back then) and he formatted the c drive and installed windows for me. but what i noticed a few days later was that, one logical drive wasn't showing ( a 100GB drive with only a pictures folders- important) . it was like it vanished into thin air.

I took it back to him, he used a number of tools to recover that drive and couldn't. So i was told that ''since there is no important user folders on your system,  I will reformat the whole thing ( i mean into a single drive of 500GB) and then partition it. It was then that new drives were created. After that they have stayed like that.

It's only been a few weeks since i decided that i should take care of my own system (not depend on others) that i have been finding these discrepancies. I am debugging them one by one and it's actually much easier to maintain my system myself .

So, back to the main topic, i think while recovering the lost drive, maybe some file systems may have been messed up. It could be one of the possibilities. I'm not definitely saying that that is the only cause.

But in order to rule out this possibility I will have to reformat the whole thing again after backing up some 100GB of data to an external drive, which I don't have.

Any suggestions? Oh by the way, I ran a hard drive test from dell and it failed the SMART test. I suppose it's a physical damage, but i don't recall my laptop having been dropped or anything close to that. If there really was a physical damage,  I don't think my laptop would function the same it is doing. Ever since i started maintaining my system since few weeks ago, it's been a smooth sale and no performance issues in spite of all the errors.

Tweaking.com Support & Help / rainmeter and tweaking program (solved)
« on: April 19, 2014, 12:23:53 am »
Hi,

I will be installing rainmeter on my system to have custom themes and the software is going to make changes to the windows files.
I am wondering if i can run 'all in one windows repair' along side rainmeter. Should I exercise control on the options to run the repair on or should i temporarily disable rainmeter to run the tweaking software?

Hard to tell, if it keeps happening see if you have any software that might affect the file system, like 3rd party defraggers and things like that.

No i have only windows defragmenter. I am not really sure if there are any such software that might affect the file system. In any case, i'll keep investigating and then see what comes up. Should i close this post?

Oh ok. Thank you. that's a load off of my shoulder .

Hmm, I see. I have formatted all drives in succession, after moving data from one to the other and later ran chkdsk which didn't detect any bad sectors. I have done this process a couple of times before and every time it has been the same result.

So, i guess it must be what you have mentioned.

So, should i leave it alone or should i look into why the file systems are getting corrupted and then try any alternative (if any) to fix them?

General Computer Support / Drives and chkdsk errors (solved)

Here is the dilemma,

Chkdsk reports volume bit map errors on two drives and bad sectors. If i try to recover the drives by using the drive tools, the bad sectors multiply. if i format the drive, chkdsk won't detect any bad sectors and says that everything is fine and no problems found.

On the contrary, the disk management shows that all drives are healthy even when chkdsk reports them. The ' system maintenance under system and security'  checks for volume errors and says no problems found. I even ran a thirdy party software 'asc ultimate 7 disk doctor tool', even that did not detect any problems.
So why is the chkdsk bugging me with these errors. Is it static?

My computer is running fine. no bsod, no slow running, i can access everything, no hang-ups, never had to do a back up. it's just bugging the hell out of me

I am finally done with the updates and now the console seems to be working fine. I am supposing that the mass download and installation caused one of the updates to not get installed properly. and i didn't install the optional updates. may be they could have been the cause too.

And here i thought now that that's out of the way i can let out a sigh of relief, but guess not. Now the microsoft fix it said that one of the audio controllers could not run due to less resources , even the device manager showed an exclamation mark on that driver. so i uninstalled and re-installed that. the audio is good. no exclamation marks.

but the microsoft fix it and troubleshooting hardware and devices tool says that hardware changes cannot be detected and that windows is configured to not update drivers at all. I am aware of that as I just installed windows 7 home premium, sp1 and then all the latest drivers from the dell website for my model after performing an online system analysis. everything was fine before the update . I didn't know which hardware is causing this problem, as the device manager shows no exclamation mark on anything.

I finally got some useful information from windows action center which reported that usb controller driver is missing, but on the device manager, it is visible and shows working fine under properties. to make sure i even ran the relevant driver.exe file to repair it, but the message won't disappear.

On top of that, if i click fix it from the action center, it is taking me to dell driver page to download a driver that is not even compatible with my xps. is it safe to install it? or should i just leave it be?

13
yes it did. I tried to create a separate console for performance monitor. When i tried to open the new console, it kept saying that microsoft management console has stopped working. So i have undone the whole update and am now installing them one by one manually to see which update caused it.
Even 'microsoft fix it' didn't detect the problem. microsoft 'help and support' window also showed the same message and wouldn't open. So did the speech recognition reference card. So none of the microsoft services were working, i think.

Hi Guys,

I installed a windows 7 home premium, SP1 two days ago. After installing all the drivers needed, I ran the advanced tools options like performance monitor and so forth . They worked.

I gave windows updates yesterday and I noticed today that I am unable to open service.msc, performance monitor, and a few other advanced tools under ' performance information and tools ---> advanced tools' .. they all open with another pop saying windows management console not working.

In order to make sure what was causing the problem, I even did a clean boot, with startup programs disabled and only microsoft services running. ( i was able to open services.msc in safe mode and not clean boot)

So no background programs are causing this problem. There seems to be no other problems though... speed is good, i have internet access, i can open other programs, i am able to install programs and such.

So i ran windows all in one repair' software, went through each step and that didn't solve it either.

My only option is to do a system restore before windows update of 149 total and I am wondering if that is a good thing to do since I will be going back on so many of them.

I would like to know if there are any other options available.

@jraju : I know what you mean, just like us behaving out of character at times.

Anyways I have decided to give it a rest because I have been at my computer for 5 days in a row, with hardly any sleep, sorting out issues.
Since everything is working fine now, i don't want to unnecessarily do anything to it. since the time it is back, i haven't noticed any random or suspicious behaviour

If it crops later, i will dive into it again.

once again, I thank you guys for your support

Oh, after a few boots, i just noticed that the volume control icon has popped back...so no issues there.
Thank you

17
i don't know what happened, but the second time i ran the program almost everything seems to be working fine. some of the icons that were missing from the tray are back, folders are loading faster.

And after the registry repairs, the ccleaner reported one activex issue : inproserver32\c:\windows system32\wuaucpl..cpl
I didn't fix it. i will take my cues from you.

i noticed that the volume controller icon on the task bar has vanished although i can control the volume using the special function keys as the media keys. I appreciate it if you can let me know how to fix it

I guess the reason for everything going well is:
on first try : I had chosen every option for repair except the windows update repair option
On second try: I chose the default highlighted repair options, although again i disabled the windows update repair option.

so i am assuming the problem must lie in the options i left out, especially the one which said 'reset file permissions' .

Conclusion: I don't have to restore my sys to before registry repairs  :cheesy:

18
I don't know which one failed, but it only mentioned 13/14 files restored. I had performed the repairs on all options except for windows update repairs. But i don't know if this will shed some light on the issue.
Anyways, for now, as you have suggested, i have run ccleaner and the results are attached below. Also the issue were fixed and i ran the it again to be sure. No issues detected.

The highlighted applications in the report were the ones i had problems with. the rest seem to work fine, even though these error messages were shown.

If this isn't sufficient, then i will go ahead and create a restore point and run 'all-in-one' again and report the issues. let me know if this is required.
But how can i tell which file doesn't restore, is there an option or a drop down box anywhere that i might have missed?

General Computer Support / failed to restore previous registry files
« on: March 19, 2014, 10:00:40 am »
I had some registry issues that have had something to do with hkey local machine and root directories.
So i downloaded all in one repair software from this site and went through the steps as suggested.
1) No malware detected
2) NO disc issues were detected and hence chkdsk wasn't needed
3) After running the system files check, it said - no integrity issues
4) system restore and registry backup successful
5) Ran the repairs

after boot, some applications failed to load and asking me to re-create a directory to store and didn't let me access c: and some applications failed to uninstall as a result and said that it could not access logfile and some other exe files....

6) So i used system restore to restore the computer to a time before i ran this all-in-one software - successful
7) I ran the application again to restore previous registry files and one of them failed to get restored.
I performed steps 6 and 7 again and it gave the same error message.

I performed a registry error scan through AVG antivirus software and the result is Hkey classes root errors and a few others. The error file is attached .

Can some help me with this and if this issue has already been resolved for someone else, please guide me to the relevant post. Help appreciated
