I know Tom, it was very drastic especially since I didn't want to do this but I really can't waste any more time on this
Of course than you to everyone who tried to help, I really appreciate it.
My original disk is original Win 7 so its now downloading service pack 1....I do hope it behaves itself after the updates....

....i am holding my breath.......

2
Well Tom, I bit the bullet and reformatted and reinstalled win 7 and it works!
now battling to reinstall all my software...

You have been nothing short of spectacular in your willingness to try and help me, I truly appreciate all your help.
If i get any other probs i will come back to you (if I may)
thanks buddy, you are a star!

I think I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and reformat reinstall
I can't afford to spend any more time on this.

4
yep....same 215

Just downloaded and installing the latest driver (again) from Canon and and I write it gives me the error FAILED!
My system has been shutting down a lot since all this along with BSOD
I attach a pic of the error, maybe that may shed some light?

Morning Tom,
tried the SURT update and no difference.

The first time i plugged in the printer after the update, i got a BSOD, after that it tries to update but always comes up with 'DEVICE DRIVER WAS NOT SUCCESSFULLY INSTALLED
in Devices, it says, no driver is installed.
im going out of my mind here....

7
looks like error is 215

8
nope dont see it, (see pic)...
Im in UK too in Chelmsford.
I thought you were somewhere in US or something.

9
dont know where the 'general' tab is?

i just downloaded the file you suggested and will instigate it tomorrow, i'm whacked now. going to bed, its midnight here.
thanks for your help Tom I really appreciate it buddy.
I do hope we resolve this fairly soon (before I blow my brains out) :-)

10
whats this 'not package aware' business?

11
here is the html
anything there you can see?

12
must be a manual way to install the drivers on the disk without accessing the internet surely???

13
nothing really, just opens a windows help file for making sure im connected to the internet etc...
i have tried several times, i cant get past this window now it wont install at all.

14
That's how it should be, I should be able to plug this in and it should install from Windows. Even the setup says so, and I have tried that too. It does install windows drivers and then gives me the same stupid error.
Anyhow lets see if taking control has made a difference......
it's just finished and.........

device driver was NOT successfully installed.......this is getting worse.
Why does it need null driver 1, null driver 2 and so many other drivers...its one for the printer and one for the scanner, thats it....
and yet it wants several for the printer and all the rest...here... im sending you a screenshot....

15
doing it as we speak
it takes a while because it always goes online and searches for Windows update....dont get that, all my previous printers install direct from disk.
I wonder if that is a factor?

16
oh, i just clicked away from it and back in and its all there again... not sure what this ownership thing does

17
I just took ownership of the whole x64 bit driver folder and it disappeared off the face of the earth!
I haven't restarted as i fear i may not get back in.
Is that normal to happen?

18
i have the full install and the updated drivers too on my computer

19
how about if i take control before installing? perhaps with me controlling it will install properly?

20
I just uninstalled the printer again, should i install the drivers then take ownership of the compete folder?

21
Nice idea, tried it but alas same thing........someone doesn't want me to open this printer!
keep the deeper bright ideas coming....
did your support peeps have any other ideas?

Thanks

22
Yep indeed, I tried that too and it went half way then said 'failed' and rolled back the whole thing.

we need to find out why permissions are not granted. Someone must have come across this before surely......

23
That's very kind of you, I do hope they can help to resolve this nightmare swiftly.
Thanks for all your help thus far, really appreciated.

24
Thank you, just tried that but again it's the same.....I was really hopeful this was going to work. Nice fresh desktop under the administrator but alas....same rubbish!
I am so frustrated.......got no hair left!!!

Hi and thanks,
I actually tried installing the printer under wireless rather than usb and it still failed.
I have tried every usb port on my system and it is the same.
This is the current response from Canon.

Thank you for your email, I’m sorry that you are still having problems with your printer install, I’m afraid that the error your system is showing is a fault with the operating system and we cannot offer support on this.

The print spooler is a system function, if it fails to load the required DLL’s then this is due to rights and permissions, anti-virus or other security issues or down to the operating system itself.

I would advise removing all canon printers and drivers, from the control panel enter administrivia tools, print management then print servers.

Remove all old and unrequired printers.

Ensure that all updates and patches are downloaded for the operating system then restart the computer.

Log in as an administrator then download and install the Canon drivers again, if the print spooler still fails then you may need to reinstall the operating system or contact Microsoft for further support.

Needless to say I did all this as you are aware........damn! it's looking increasingly like im gonna have to bite the bullet and reformat.....I really didn't want to go down that road.
