General Computer Support / .net4.8: 0x800f0922; Firefox: 0xc0000022

Hi,

I've tried to install .net4.8 but failed with error 0x800f0922

Also, recently Firefox wouldn't start with error 0xc0000022

Are these related, how to fix it?

I run Windows 8.1 64 bit; other programs, including browsers, work fine.

Thanks a lot.

Hi,

I can’t open MS Office files directly. When I try, Windows Installer starts then fails as MSOCache\All is not accessible, Error 1706. However, I can open these files from their respective program. I run Office 2016 Pro Plus, 64 bit, on Windows 8.1.

This started when I installed Windows security update for Adobe, KB4477029; I have Acrobat DC on my laptop, and this is integrated into Office.

I’ve tried to uninstall this update, it doesn’t listed though among the installed updates; while it is shown in update history. I tried to reinstall it manually; I was told it had already been installed. I’ve found some update repair in Windows’ website, ran it, nothing happened.

Thanks for any help.

Hi,

I inadvertently installed Orange Defender, as a disguised ‘Additional offer’. When I noticed it, immediately uninstalled with a thorough uninstaller. Yet, it still appears among the Startup and background programs, in AVG PC Tuneup; can even be toggled sleeping/awaken.

I checked all places with all searches for leftover files or register keys, couldn’t find any. I’m anxious as I run other virus / malware protections, anything from another defender may cause severe issues. How to find what AVG PC Tuneup detects so that I can get rid of it?

Thanks a lot.

Hi,

Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /Restorehealth failed with the error message:
error 0x800f0906
The source files could not be downloaded. Use the "source" option...go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=243077
Alas, I couldn't make out anything from the given link.

I enabled connection to windows updates directly, via gpedit.msc, as sugested here
http://www.eightforums.com/performance-maintenance/48368-restorehealth-error-0x800f0906.html
It didn't help.

Per http://www.thewindowsclub.com/repair-corrupt-windows-image-error-0x800f0906 I also tried this:
elevated cmd
   net stop wuauserv
       cd %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution
     ren Download Download.old
      net start wuauserv
       net stop bits
       net start bits
       net stop cryptsvc
       cd %systemroot%\system32
       ren catroot2 catroot2old
       net start cryptsvc
        then reboot
No success.

sfc/scannow reported it'd found corrupted files but couldn't fix them.

Of course, I wanted to try Shane's program but couldn't find which repair option to run.

What should I do?
Many thanks,
George

SOLVED

It took much more time and effort than expectable, but Shane wouldn't let it go till identified and solved. Many-many thanks and admiration again.

Re-formulation for clarity (November 3):

1. I type any program name, e.g. cmd, notepad, etc. in the search pane.
a. If I double left-click on it, it starts to run.
b. If I right click, then choose the menu item 'Run as Administrator' nothing happens.

2. I go to any program’s, e.g. cmd, notepad, etc.,  exe file in the respective program folder, and right click, then choose the menu item 'Run as Administrator' it starts to run as administrator.

That is, the issue is with merely the shortcut.

I'm not aware of anything else that can go wrong with a shortcut than its registration. Of course, a. anything may exist beyond my rather limited knowledge; b. even if I'm right in that, I have no idea which registration key to change and how.

I hope for one of these kinds of answers:
1. Oh, it's not registration, go to this place in control panel and change this preference; or: download and run this utility, etc., or
2. Yes, it's registry issue, change this registry key this way.
(end of revision)

If I right click a program (cmd, notepad, etc.) from start or start/search {corrected: and choose 'Run as Administrator'} nothing happens. I can run anything as admin directly from the exe files though.

Added later:

I clicked 'open file location', got to AppData/Roaming/Microsoft/Windows/Start Menu/Programs and experienced the same malfunction. When, however, in case of cmd,  clicked 'open file location' again, I got to the System32 folder, and here I found OK;
i.e., the shortcuts to AppData/Roaming/Microsoft/Windows/Start Menu/Programs seem to be the culprit. Possibly their registration? (end of addition)

sfc/scannow or Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /Restorehealth don't help and I can't find which option to choose from Tweaking's repair.

Thanks a lot.

SOLVED

Hello,

Since the dozens of Windows updates on October 15th I can't create a hot image; use Paragon Hard  Disk Manager, no problem before that. The error code is 0x11112, VSS specific error.

I've checked that VSS service is running and set to start 'Automatic'; run sfc/scannow and Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /Restorehealth as well as MS' utility to re-register VSS in vain.

How to fix it?
Thanks a lot.

Hello,

I can't run any program as administrator on Windows 8, 64 bit via any shortcut. I am the only user and administrator.

The problem is with the shortcuts only but all of them, e.g. cmd wouldn't start as admin from the start panel, nor from Win+X. Also, when I searched C: for 'command prompt', 15 (!) shortcuts turned out, none started elevated cmd (right click and pick 'run as administrator'). When, however I searched for 'cmd.exe' two direct hits (among several other, irrelevant) did. Then I tried notepad and a few other programs, and found the same, none starts as admin from the main panel (no error message either), but they do from the original location of their respective .exe files.

Both sfc/scannow and Automatic Repair said they had detected some issue but could not fix it. Alas, Tweaking’s Windows Repair did not help either.

I found a suggestion for Xindows 2000 and XP at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/294676/en-us. The XP version seemed to apply, I found Secondary Logon among the services in my system, and set its start Automatic and started it as instructed, but this did not help either. On the same page a version of MS Fixit is also offered, but this is incompatible with my OS; another version that I downloaded earlier said that my system is fine, nothing to repair. I also turned to MS forum but have not received any solution.

How to enable these shortcuts please?
Thank you very much.
George
