Computer Help / Windows 10 boot up tips are required - Solved
« on: October 19, 2020, 09:14:02 AM »
I noticed different results while booting up 3 different Windows 10 systems.

One is the normal one. The other one is when the system starts loading the startup programs after boot-up but before login. One is when the system boots up and opens the same programs that where still open before the restart was triggered.

I would like to know the settings for each one to know it for future configuration. Not able to find much info on the specifics of this on the internet.

Computer Help / Some programs are crashing on Windows 10 - Solved
« on: October 17, 2020, 04:02:01 AM »
I have several media players and some of them work normally. I recently reinstalled 2 more which used to work fine before I upgraded to Windows 10 but now just crash without playing the video at all.

Divx player crashes as soon as it opens and shows the program stopped working error and then closes. https://www.divx.com/en/software/divx/

KMplayer open but does the same thing when trying to play any video. http://en.kmplayer.com/

I updated the O/S to the latest in all available hoping it would solve it but it did not. No corrupted files showing with SFC /Verifyonly.

Event viewer shows that the programs have crashed but does not give enough details to trace it back to the source. I tried running the programs in compatibility with other versions of the Windows and as an administrator but all have failed.

Is there a way to find the issue that is causing this to fix it?

I am not looking for alternatives. I just want to know about these two and why would they crash?

This feature worked well on Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.

I have added a few shortcut locations to the "Send to" option.

The issue with it is that for me is that it would send the entire file or folder. I just wanted it to create a shortcut and send it. So I asked my colleague at work who is a program developer and he gave me a tip that worked well on both Windows 7 and 8.1.

It works but pressing on Crtl+Shift+ right mouse click with "Send to" to the desired location. I would then just send a shortcut. Like it does to the Desktop but to any link added there.

This is not longer working on Windows 10. Now When I press the Ctrl + Shift the manually added locations disappear.

Does anyone know how to do it?

I tried other random key combinations and none of them worked.

There is no information about this on the internet. Even the tip I have been using since 2016.

Computer Help / Increase saturation color on Toshiba Laptop
« on: September 20, 2020, 06:46:54 AM »
I want to increase the colors on the screen of the laptop but no option for it.

I tried some 3rd party utilities but none of them would should the saturation option.

I tried to change the other settings around but could not get the desired results.

The Laptop is Toshiba Satellite Pro C660 from 2011 running Windows 7.

The attached image is the current default control panel for the installed Graphics card. I tried to update it but did not manage to do so.

It has the latest monitor and Graphics card driver installed.

Are there free tools to do so?

Is there another way to force an update to the existing utility?

A few months Win 8.1 does not remember the last user logged in anymore.

I think it happened during the time I changed the Antivirus to AVG but not sure if that was the cause. I don't remember the exact thing I did.

Now it just shows all the user list instead of the last user logged in.

I did also some delete some files that all users use for background so that when I log off it shows the same background for all users.

I checked forums and found a registry entry that suggests to change a value from 1 to 0 but mine is already set to 0.

Does anyone know where I should check to solve this small issue?

Computer Help / DelayedDesktopSwitchTimeout
« on: August 08, 2020, 09:24:18 AM »
I saw a post about the same subject in this forum but it is not working for me.

I have WIndows 7 and 8.1 Home edition and did not work on either one.

They are not joined to any domain.

I am trying to increase the duration of the welcome screen at login and tried to use this tweak. It is advised to use the number 5 in most threads I found. But not sure what the 5 refers to. Is it 5 seconds?

I tried 60 to take 1 min but did not work.

Will this Tweak work on my computers? Is there another solution?

What are the numbers that need to be used? Is there a guide for it?
