Feedback & Suggestions / Trivial problem!
« on: January 24, 2016, 01:51:15 pm »
I recently came across an article in ComputerActive magazine, here in UK, reviewing Windows Repair - and, having a few small 'funnies' on my system, decided to give it a try.

On logging on, I was delighted to see the 'Tweaking.com' logo, having had brilliant help from you, before.

This is to report a) all my little problems seem to have been eliminated, but b) one trivial bug has seemingly appeared.

I spend a certain amount of time each day playing Freecell, MahJong, SpiderSolitaire and Solitaire, the windows Games.

With MahJong, if a 1) start a game, 2) close down mid-way through, using 'Save' to store the game, 3) later fire up Mahjong again, and choose to re-open the Saved game, 4) finish the game successfully, then 5) later, open MahJong again, the unexpected happens.  The game offers me the 'Re-open saved game' option, and if i take it, presents me with the game in the state it was at step 3).  Normally, closing a 'Saved and recovered' game clears the saved game.

Before running Windows Repair, I never remember it presenting the stored, uncleared game in these circumstances. (It may have started doing it, but if so, I never noticed it - in other words, I cannot definitively say the fault hadn't arisen before WIndows Repair, but I don't think it had.)  I can't yet say if the same happens with the other games.

As bugs go, this is trivial.  I report it mainly in case it indicates some deeper thing that needs attention.

Feedback & Suggestions / Impressive job - many thanks
« on: February 21, 2013, 05:30:17 am »
I had a tricky problem - a virus had destroyed several functions, including File and Printer Sharing.  I'd sought help - but not got any.

Then, an article in a UK computer magazine lead me to Tweaking.com.  The 'Windows Repair' program here fixed most of my problems, and Shane, (Thanks, Shane) came in, and fixed the remainder.

I'm delighted to know that, in helping me, he has been able to improve Windows Repair even further.

Impressive!!

Fully understand and sympathise!!  I had a colonoscopy many years ago, and I'm still around (nearly 79 now!) so there's hope for a youngster like you!

(I often refer to my colonoscopy as an 'Up Periscope' job.)

It's my bedtime, here in UK, right now - I'll be in touch again soon.

All the best, and thanks again for taking an interest.

OK - late here, now, Shane.

I still want to fix this problem, and I'd love to have your help, and if it also helps you improve your software, so much the better.

Leave me a note of some possible times, and I'll come back to you.

I'm 8 hours ahead of you - so my evening is probably a good time - 6pm  or 7 pm for me, 10am or 11 am for you, if my maths is right!

Damn these time-Zones!!

I'm not sure what the offset is, between my time (GMT) and PST.

Shane - I'll be here at 7 pm my time today (Just under an hour from now).  (Or as soon after as possible - wife is cooking still!!)

If that fails, we'll try again on another occasion.

Tuesday should be fine, Shane - thanks.

I was right about the 5 hours diff. between my time and EST - I was dead wrong about which way!! I'm 5 hours ahead.

Looks to me like a good time tomorrow would be 7 pm for me - 2 pm for you. I should be able to give it at least 3 hours, from that time.

I've found Teamviewer and installed it - I hope that's right.

Thanks again, I'll be so glad to get to the bottom of this thing.

I'd be very glad to co-operate - to get a fix for myself, and to help others.

It's late night here, now.  As soon as I can, I'll get a few more facts together, ready, and be back in touch to suggest possible times.

I'm in England - so 5 hours behind EST

Thanks, Willy2.  Sadly, it doesn't.  My computer and my wife's both run Vista.  My son runs 7, I'm pretty sure.

All 3 used to print fine on a printer attached (USB) to my machine, till the other 'puters suddenly lost contact.

I think the problem is on my computer - that - cannot set Sharing (files, printer, etc) 'ON'.

General Computer Support / Partial Success - is now COMPLETE success!!

I had multiple problems - the main ones being -

1) Windows Update wouldn't work - 'Unknown Error'
2) Windows Firewall unavailable
3) File sharing unavailable
4) Printer sharing unavailable

The first two are now cured.  The last two, not.  When I try to set them ON in Network and Sharing Center it just fails to happen.  Stays OFF.

Ironically, it was printer sharing I most missed!  I'd love to get it back again (as would my wife, from her computer on our LAN).
