Thank you Shane - I don't know how many forums I visited before stumbling on yours, but they all had one thing in common - no fix for 80070026. I did run your all in one windows repair tool , but the obvious repair was the one you directed me to (which incidentally even Microsoft didn't do yet) - a repair reinstall. Awesome - I will tell everyone about your help , use your programs for tweaking and repair , and I have liked your page on Facebook.

Done and done (fixed) - I thank you so much for being so generous with your time. That was the obvious solution. It's funny because it is the solution I chose for a laptop with similar updating issues at work last month. Again , I thank you for showing me the correct path.

Vincent

I have run the Windows All In One - great program , did not fix the issue.

My latest "fix" (which didn't work) was running the Windows Readiness Tool , then I had a downloaded copy of SP1 on disc , ran the setup , same error.

The message that accompanies the error is "Windows cannot search for updates"

I have run several malware detection , nothing found.

I have disabled antivirus , firewalls prior to update attempts, does not work.

I do not want to format this machine and start fresh.

Thanks for all thoughts and help.
