I understand your motive. But, in this language if someone has a question they go looking for the "answer" ... and when they do get there it's been answered ... but, again I acquiesce to the finer intricacies of  English if you wish?

BUENO!  Thanks! I will look that up. I'll search here for LIKE, ANSWER, KUDO's, whatever. If I don't find let me know. But let me express them here! Thanks!  Jack  ":-Dx

I didnt even know it had a tray icon lol, I have never seen one.

Shane I thank you for your time. Yes, it looks like a small magnifying glass and when indexing the 'glass' part of the magnifier icon is blue and pulsing. It must run indiscriminately as it slows loading of other things down. And the many time I've right clicked on it and there is a choice to SNOOZE Indexing.

Where do you do this?  "I know you can manually open the search indexer and pause it like you want as well."

I'm not sure I am understanding that either but since I am on the Win8.1 machine a lot the old tricks I knew on XP's dims a little.

Thanks greatly for your times!  Jack  ":-Dx

I went to Computer Management and starte Indexing services as I have it showing on 2 other XP's I have. Don't feel bad for me, I have a Windows 8.1 too! lol But my XP's won't die and so I use them for other things. Back now to the subject. I want the icon on the taskbar so I can SNOOZE indexing while I'm busy working. As far as I know Indexing is running when it wants? How do we get the icon to show there. Thanks! Jack ":-Dx

:cheesy: You betcha! How will I know. Should I check something here or can you send a mass email from our profile to all about the update?

  Glad for your great business and the millions of downloads. What's the old saying, "If you go to work doing what you like to do ... it's like not having a job at all and getting paid."  Okay ... haven't heard the last of me! hahah! ":-D jack

Hmmmmm ... give me a nights sleep on it! LOL   I may attempt it early in the morn. Weary of it now. And I'd like to know too the answer. It only seems to happen, (I know you are good to go when you say it's not the program) but it only seems to happen after installing it and running it. When I go back to the state before it I don't have problems. Now that's not a dissing of the program. Frankly I think it's a lot of program and labor intensive work (double something there) to be giving away so generously. And with so many PC's with so many in different states of maintenance and multiple programs, I frankly don't know how guys like you get something to run on 3 pc's coirrectly, let alone 1000's. It's been no problem whatsoever on a dual core XP, an Acer Netbook and and older Toshiba Satellite laptop. Not a problem at all. And, I don't know what's going here. But maybe I'll work it from this angle. Let's see if it stays stable for a couple of days, in it's older state (B4 TWK) and see if problems come. Then, after a respite and I get up the gumption I'll install and run the repair again and see if it does the skitzoid stuff again. I'll try to hang with it to help. How often do we that take free stuff (did you get my $10 donation on paypal? haha) have an opportunity to give back. So if you don't hear from me give it a day or two, next 2 are busy outside. The East Coast is weakly leaving Winter behind. It's was chilly and cold today and yet we have had Summer like days in the last month. A week ago we had sleet and ice on the blooms.   :omg:  Jack  ":-D

 Okay, if it starts going bonkers again what shall I do?  This .....

Open Tweaking.com and do a reg backup and a restore point and not touch the pc as far as getting it back to a stable state?
Then try to hold off, leave it unstable until I get wored to you? Use that email if it's like going to your smartphone and at least I can know I let you know, get a reply and know how long to wait?

Is that what we're look at here?  I can do that if that's what you are saying?  :sarcastic:  ":-D jack lol

I'm sorry, when it went South I just wanted to get it back into a working state. And yes I could have emailed you and surely it would have went straight to your smartphone, but I didn't want to appear as an idiot that trying to bug in the instant. I posted, waited for maybe an hour to see if you were around and then restored it to the state before twk was installed. I know you can't be at your desk all the time either. As far as I know, as I said above, it's back to the state you found it which was

Restored to before tweaking.com
BUT
tweaking.com is still on the local drive.

I just wanted things to work. I'm can't begin to exact why it started fowling after we had it going well. I changed nothing. So ... I don't know as I can go through all we did on the phone once more.     Don't know what to tell ya?  It appears I now have control back of changing Update modes and it's not reporting false updates available as I reported in the initial post.  I know it bugs ya to not know. I get there too at times even though you have more knowledge in your little toe than I do my whole cranium. I still get bugged debuggin!

Sound not working again. All programs usually on the taskbar not loading. Going to try using an old Restore Point.

First looked for the one you made. Wasn't showing? All was showing was Restore Points I made that morning after restoring to a point before tweaking.com which should have been clear of all changes.

* Restore points won't open. Going for SAFE MODE.
* In safe mode I see the restore points, it's been on restoring a restore point for 20 minutes or more ... as if it's stuck!  Back later after walking away it's showing my photo and sign on. Said there was an error in restore. BTW I didn't see the Restore point I thought you made while in TeamViewer. I think I said that above.
* However it seems to be corrected again in spite of saying the Restore Point didn't take. Sound, everything seem fine. Of course twk.com is gone again, in the state you found it when you took the cursor on TeamViewer.  At this point I'm content to use it. Something about my pc doesn't like what's going on with twk.com.

Shane: tried to send this as a pm. Said I was blocked. LOL I never had sent you a thing and I am such a newb here I know I have not upset the cart yet. But here's what I wanted to send.

Didn't want to post something in a NEW POST that might appear that resolve wasn't great! It was but today it's being bad, as if there wasn't a complete resolution. Fact these little bugs might have pre-existed but I don't think so.

1) When I sign on there is always notification of UPDATES to download. I go there and there are none. So I says to self, in the past things like this I could change the option/apply/reboot/re-apply the option I want/reboot and resolved.

2) In this case it won't allow me to make changes saying I must be the administrator. How am I not the admin, it's my pc from the very beginning. Even this little program I that's says it's added a couple lines to the registry to make me admin (again?) does not work. In the past some messages said I need administrator confirm, then lets me go the 2nd time. This one will not even allow me to change how I get Updates. I can never remember having a problem with that at all.

Any ideas?  Jack ":-\\

 Thanks Shane again for the program and the generous time looking over my PC. Using Teamviewer Shane looked at many aspects of the new and old install and at this point it's hard to determine but it might have been a fluke. After running TWK.com again it performs flawlessy, everything works just as it should and I am thankful to have it back on this Windows 8.1 HP Pavilion PC.

UGH! Shane ... really not into all this back and forth and I wasn't asking for your number, I was going to give you mine. I thought you could press a (star)*(something) and temporarily block your number.  I surely am not after it. LOL I was just looking to expedite and if something was amiss you were right there to correct it. After this morning I'm still a little gun shy.

I'll send you the files that look interesting. If you want me to run what I did the other day ... well consider the call and blocking your number. I don't want to be left here with a pc not functioning, you get called off, (5 kids need a lot of attention LOL) and I'm hanging. So look for the files in the next few minutes. thanks  Jack

I have found files and logs. I don't know how much help you need but as you gave a free program and are so helpful I'd try to help in kind by rerunning it, but want input all along not this back and forth on messages. If I click on report to moderator can I leave a number to call. Then you can walk me through. or NOT ... I'd just like to expedite the thing and help if I can.

16
Where would those repair logs be? Would they have been wiped out in the RESORE? Give me directions to them.

17
Shane, I get the same thing, go overboard explaining too much and then folks get offended thinking I think they are dumb, when in reality I'm thinking I myself am not being clear. LOL

Anyway, it appears from a little investigation that I did use v2.6.2

Now is there something I didn't do completely when I did. I ran Chkdsk, and repaired if it called for it. Ran Malwarebytes, backed up and restored options, then clicked REPAIR and START.  Was there something else I should have done along the way?

18
SHANE: thanks so much for this program. I hope I didn't sound too critical. I guess I still get too intense when something goes I'm not sure how or why. I don't know exactly what version I used since the restore registry took tweaking.com out, as if it had never been there. I'd have to see if I kept the exe file that installed it. Thanks for all that great info, understood most of it for the most point.

 It appears I undid the damage. I went into SAFE MODE, (use msconfig, it's easiest) opened the RESTORE POINT before Tweaking.com's RESTORE POINT and let it go. After that I opened msconfig again, unchecked SAFE MODE under BOOT. Checked APPLY then restarted. It seems all is well and working again. Apparently tweaking.com is not for this HP Pavilion on Win 8.1  On the XP's I have no problems at all that I can see.

20
:undecided: Replying to myself. I have found a way into the earlier restore points before tweaking.com all in one by using SAFE MODE. I appears it may be restoring to an earlier point I selected. I will update this by modifying this post.

 I've ran Tweaking.com successfully ( I think, nothing showing yet ) on several XP machines. I Goggled for the Win 8 one. Do not remember if is gave an Win 8 version, it might have just said Windows. But after running Tweaking.com All in One Repair my

Metro tiles won't work. Like Weather and Calendar.
Sound won't work.
Charms won't work.
Cobain back up can't make a Volume Shadow Copy
Old Restore Points won't work, including the one Tweaking.com All in One Repair made
I can't create new restore points.
I do not have access to my to devices on my network group

And trying to use restore to create or access an old point returns this:

System Restore did not complete successfully. Your computer's system files and
settings were not changed.

Details:
A Volume Shadow Copy Service component encountered and unexpected error.
Cheick the Application event log for more information. (0x80042302)

Back to me. How can I get this back to where it was?  I just ran T.com yesterday and all this?  Not a newbie on PC's, I have have Pc's sincd 1987 and been on the www since 1996. Was there some sort of registry backup I made with Tweaking.com  AI1 Repair. I chose to do that too. Where's that and can it help me, how do I get to it?  Thanks!  ":-0  Jack
