General Computer Support / Re: System Restore or Registry Backup Restore?
« on: February 07, 2022, 08:38:24 AM »
Thanks Boggin! I figured that but could you tell me what is the purpose of doing a backup of the reg, if it's better to use Restore point?
It's all in the WR I know and I am assuming that all programs have a purpose, so just wondering.

Also, the Reparse Points and Enviornment Variables states that this step is not a fix (Pre-scan) and can be skipped??? I think it is important and I run it every once in a while just to make sure everything is there where it should be.

I also believe you should add two other programs to WR:

Using Command Prompt (Adm) :
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /ScanHealth
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /AnalyzeComponentStore
Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup

Using DISM is important too to insure the PC is running tip-top.

It should be in the repairs i believe number 28

Repair Windows 8/10 Component Store

The following commands are done.

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

The first command cleans up the component store (WinSxS Folder) in windows, reducing it size and removing old entries.

The 2nd command is used to repair corrupt files and corrupt entries in the component store.

Reasons for this repair:
Used to fix Windows component store corruption when a SFC /SCANNOW command is unable to repair corrupted system files because the store (source) is corrupted, then run the SFC command again.
Used to fix Windows component store corruption when the same Windows Updates continue to appear to be available to install even though they already show successfully installed in update history.

More information on these commands can be found here:

Hey Art, I took a hiatus how goes it? I?m sorry I did not view my inbox with the pm you sent about finding your key code I hope you found the recover key button on the website?if you clicked that and put in your email it would have sent you the key via email.

here is how windows boot's up as stated "verbatim" this article below

1. HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\BootExecute. This can include instructions to schedule the running of chkdsk but not user programs.

2. Services start next, followed by the RunServicesOnce and RunServices registry keys (if present)

3. User then logs on to the system

4. HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\UserInit. This points to the program C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe and the entry ends with a comma. Other programs can be started from this key by appending them and separating them with a comma.

5. HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Shell. This should contain just one entry, explorer.exe.

6. Program entries in these 2 registry keys for ALL USERS start next:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and \RunOnce

7. Program entries in these 2 registry keys for CURRENT USER start next:

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and \RunOnce

8. Programs in the Startup Folders of All Users and Current U

I recommend trying to...
1.run this as a scheduled task.
2.make sure other programs are not starting up that is slowing this program down.
3.increase the hardware of this machine to start this application.

now do you have an icon on your desktop ex:a shortcut?
does it have this argument on it. /silent our /supersilent
the reason i ask is because it will consider that as an autoback up and cancel the back up because you have it set for
Only1AutoBackupPerDay=1

it all depends on what is causing that error to be honest. what i would do is try to run the program and all the steps 98% of the repairs are registry related. so you can easily restore the registry and it will be as if the WrAio never ran.
Now with that said do you get this error when you run windows store and try to update apps?

try this command in powershell (admin)
Code: [Select]
Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers -Name Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml” -Verbose}it will spit out in yellow the verbose of what it does let me know

oh another thing about safemode is if you are running with wifi 3rd party drivers don't load so even in safemode with networking you probably won't get internet unless you are hardlined in the router.

22
weird after you hit the reboot to safe mode on the second box when it says safemode set would you like to reboot now hit no open up cmd type in
Code: [Select]
bcdedit /enum

hmmm okay which version of windows are you running exactly?

24
yep that is your antivirus killing the repairs so what you need to do is go in safe mode. and the no networking issue if you see a red x over the network adapter its a lie windows 10 likes to say it has no connection in safemode when it does its weird.

25
i see your problem see kaspersky on the bottom you need to run the program in safemode with networking your antivirus killed the repair from running go ahead and stop the repairs for now and hit the reboot to safe mode re run all the repairs.
