Thank you, Boggin.  Sorry, I failed to mention that I was running Win 7 SP1 Home Professional.  If I restore the registry, I will have to correct the Profile service problem again so if that is the only way, I will do all after lunch.

Thanx!

General Computer Support / Listed Device Fail [SOLVED]
« on: May 14, 2017, 05:39:21 am »
After running Tweaking this morning to try to fix a problem with the Service Profile service, and following the instructions to the letter, I am now getting a series of errors saying that a group of "devices" including the operating system, display configuration, sound device were failing.  Actual message is "Enumerate (listed) device (name of device as above) Fail !!".

The error messages go through about eight items and repeat.  Trying to close them only brings up the next one.  Computer seems to run fine except the message is always there.

Any ideas?

Thanx!!

Thanx, Boggin, I am going to hide all four.

Good luck.  Thanx again!!

6
They are:  KB3139398, 3110329, 3133977 and 3137061.

Hello...been a little crazy around here and have not had time to try anything new.  Last night was the clincher to the craziness...the updates for May came through so I threw caution to the wind and loaded all 14 of them, unchecking the two that gave the 70005 error.  They all loaded with no problem.

I am at a loss for words.  I think I will hide the four reported previously with the 70005 error and pretend they do not exist.

Thanx for everything.

Gentlemen...I spent some time after work last evening trying to individually load any updates I could.  I had some success but...there were four that would not load with the same 70005 error (access, I believe).

They are:  KB3139398, 3110329, 3133977 and 3137061.  The first two are critical, the second two, rated important.

Otherwise, I seem to be up to date.  The question becomes, I believe, what is the common thread between these four:  do the access the same folder, sub-folder and/or file that seems to not be affected by the programs I have run to change the ownership of them?

I am now thinking, unless one of you has a different take on this, to run a program I found to restore all folders, sub-folders and files under the Windows main folder to their respective default permissions.

I will be unavailable until late Saturday afternoon, CET, other than on my phone but welcome comments or suggestions I would be able to read when I was able to.

Thanx!

ok, I ran it as intended.  There were about 30,000 line items that were not changed.

when finished, I ran one update and it failed with the 0005 error.  I ran the second and it failed also with the same error.

I am having luck with the important updates.  have loaded three or four at this point.  more to go.

10
have been experimenting...both updates, 3139398 and 3110329 continue to fail.  398 first had a 80240055 which I tried to alleviate by turning off Comodo, antimalwarebytes and the firewall and trying again.  continues to fail with the 70005.

329 just fails with the 70005.

both were run individually without the other being downloaded.

I think I am going to have to do the repair install unless either of you come up with something else.

Thanx!

In anticipation of your suggestion that I try the update with the 0826 code, I tried and it installed.  Now I am trying one of the others that will not install to see if it will do it when alone but it will take a long time to do all the updates one at a time since it is almost time for mr softie to put out a flock more.

there has to be a better way.  maybe things will work after I get all of them installed one at a time.

hello...kb311029 - 80070005

3124001 - 800f0826

139398 - 80070005

13
Gentlemen, I think wonders will never cease.  Those two with the 0826 error did load when they were done together with no others.

now I have on three important ones that will not load...KB3110329, 3124001 and 139398.  The 14 "important" updates can wait.

Again, I thank you!!

14
Boggin, Julian, thanx for all the assistance.  I had fully intended on running the repair install on Sunday last but the "technicians" at telecom italia decided to shut down our internet.

I will try Boggin's suggestion as to the last two rejections as soon as possible (probably this evening).  Otherwise, I will run the repair install beginning on Saturday evening.

15
Hello!  Sorry to say, Julian, that the result was the same (failure of updates except for Windows Defender) to work.  The three I tried, that failed are, with their failure code are:

kb3139398   80070005
kb3146706   800f0826
kb3124280   800f0826

Nicosia

16
Thank you, Julian...have run your file (twice) and will begin testing after I finish work today.  Hopefully, it will accomplish what you think it will.

Thanx again!!

Yes, the only thing I would waste would be time watching it and responding when necessary.  The two updates are installed now and WU seems to be functioning but getting the final configuration to work is the problem.

No, I became tired of sitting and watching weeds grow so as I said, did the CTRL-ALT-DEL to see what would happen.  The 17 downloads installed but were rejected in the configuration stage.

The question I have is that if WR does not work, how would needed updates for the repair install function?  Is it possible to bypass that step and still get through the repair?

I suppose I could, during the week, do some individual updates of the critical ones and see if I can get most of them to take before I spend Saturday afternoon and evening watching the weeds grow.

18
That's the article I saw last night about 2200 that gave me the idea about the 5739 update.  I guess I wonder why that one last night and the one back in March loaded without problems and others do not.  I have 16 criticals that will not load and a flock of importants also.

Do you think I should run the repair install again?

19
thanx!  However, I installed 8612 back on the fifth of March.  I installed 5739 after waiting for many hours, in fact, about 0200 this morning.  Too many days between?

20
Regretfully, even the repair installed failed.  It ran for some time with the bar moving indicating a download in progress of updates needed for the repair.  Then, after a few hours, it just stopped and sat there for a few hours more.  When I tried to exit out of the screen (CTRL-ALT-DEL), it took me to the main screen where I saw that there was 17 updates to install.  I let it try to install but, of course, it failed and reinstalled the older ones when the computer was restarted.

I have gotten another update to install KB3145739.  That, according to Bleepingcomputer.com should have corrected the problem.  Not so.

Unless you have another idea, Boggin, I will plan on spending this weekend doing a clean install.

BTW, I ran a deep cleaning to ensure that there were no worms, bugs, viruses, etc. before running the repair.  Nothing was found.

Thanx!

21
thanx again

22
Since there were no indications that SURT found anything, if there is no difference in the Windows Updates that I will run overnight, I will run WR again and then, if necessary, run the repair update.

Rain is still forecast for tomorrow, Saturday, so I will have plenty of time.

Thanx!

23
Yes, the first code I sent was from FixIt.  Your suggestion as to what my actions and in what order should be to tried to alleviate the problem?

thanx!

24
The access code I sent today was from the updates (right click) that did not go.  The other code was from one of the MS programs you suggested I run.

25
actually, this problem has been going on for at least six months, long before I ran SURL.

I will try to load updates this evening before I run (if necessary) WR on Saturday and before I run the repair install (if necessary).
