No, leave it be as with dial up you will need the caching more than ever

Shane

Thanks Shane

Is that why it is faster when i load the same web page for the second or third time?

Chrome is normally faster, I myself use firefox.

Thanks Shane
The laptop is XP Home Edition (low resources) Dial up.
Chrome better for this setup, i don't want to download Firefox if there is no improvement.

Which ever you use make sure to turn down how much cache it keeps. I hate those.

How do i turn down this?

I also keep the cache low like 8 mb. Then it is far less hard drive access to try and load the cache.

How do i adjust to 8mb,( is this the same as above) or a separate adjustment?

Thanks again

The Vista machine will not run the SFC, it pauses asking to press any key to continue, but when pushed the CMD box disappears and no action.

Thanks in advance

So is it working better for you now?

Shane

Thank you

Yes it is, the XP Machine is going through taking approx. 75 minutes instead of 130 minutes, have run it three times to make sure. Sorry i meant that the RESET REGISTRY PERMISSIONS went through ok. Better not talk to soon. I will keep you posted.

The Vista machine will not run the SFC, it pauses asking to press any key to continue, but when pushed the CMD box disappears and no action.

Thanks again

General Computer Support / SFC not working
« on: April 10, 2013, 04:10:20 pm »
Hi Shane

I downloaded the latest Version 1.9.13 AIO Repair.

On the Vista machine the SFC will not work (use to), it asked to press any key to continue as sdoon as the Command box appears, i press any key and the Box disappears.

With the 1.9.13 AIO on the XP machine it goes staight through using all ther repairs, including the RESET FILE PERMISSIONS, just to remind you it was thought it was going around in a loop. Have tried it twice now to make sure and it went staright through, actually quicker 80 minutes instead of 200 minutes.
Maybe with the extra room on the C Drive has made a difference?

Thanks in advance

General Computer Support / Re: XP Machine Memory Increased
« on: April 03, 2013, 01:20:01 am »
If you are wondering why your used space on the hard drive has increased there can be a ton of reasons.

You can try running the disk cleanup wizard. See how much space that frees, and make sure NOT to do the compress old files! That will do nothing but slow the machine down.

Shane

Hi Shane thank you that has increased the C drive even further.

Where would i find the Memory details where speed / resources are a problem?

Thanks again

Firefox or chrome.

The problem you have sounds like IE having a way to big cache size. Put the temporary file size down to 8 mb and have it delete all the cache

Shane

Thanks Shane

1. Where do i find temporary file size down to 8 mb?
2. Also have it delete all the cache?

Thanks
