@Oscar:
1. Please rerun WR with "Reset Register Permissions" ticked and then see what happens with memory usage (Performance). Does it increase (gradually, sharply) as soon as WR gets stuck in that loop ?
2. Tick the box "Show processes from all users" (Task manager). Is there a process that uses A LOT OF memory ?

Thank you
I could do this but computer freezes when it gets into the loop

Any antivirus will slow a computer down. The question is which one will hurt less lol

Shane

Avast is one of the better ones, got to have that protection without many resources?

128
I havent seen how their new version 8 does on slower systems.

Turn off the AV and see how it feels.

Shane

Alot smoother and faster, computer doesn't appear to be working as hard if that makes sense.

I found 2 pages that should put me on the right track

http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2483010/how-to-list-all-symbolic-links-on-an-ntfs-filesystem
and
http://bryanpendleton.blogspot.com/2010/07/api-for-working-with-windows-symbolic.html

Right now I am slammed, do me a favor and give me a friendly reminder in a week or two about making this tool. I should be able to make it in only a day or so. Just have to remember lol

I will make a note for myself but with all that I have going on sometimes I lose track of time :-)

Shane

Just a friendly reminder

Thanks Shane

Done that, helped but still slower than before.

Thanks Shane

Should i still update Java Runtime Environment directly maybe?

It is showing "Local version 6.0.210.7"
                      "New version 6.0.390.4"

File System Shield and Behavior Shield and Free Malwarebytes be enough protection?

Does the rest of the protection take up more resources?

Thanks again

Hi i ran the above but taking along time (15 hours) and still has not finished.

It is showing "Local version 6.0.210.7"
                      "New version 6.0.390.4"

Is this a big file?

Is there a direct link to this specific version?

Thanks in advance

Hi Shane i have attached a screen shot.

The “subinad exe” seems to swap with “system idle process “approximate values, occasionally.
The HKEY Local Machine was running at the time.

Thanks again

Thanks again

Hi Shane

Ran the latest 1.9.12 and i had to skip (un tick) the RESET REGISTRY PERMISSIONS although 01/03 went through ok, but 02/03 and 03/03 didn't. It was taking for ever.

Interesting that version 1.9.10 had little problem with this.

Also the Vista Windows Updates seem to be working with no pending.

Thanks again

General Computer Support / AVAST Free Cannot Enable
« on: March 03, 2013, 01:37:05 am »
Hi i have updated the program from 7 version to 8.

Now it will not allow me to Enable the shields etc.

I downloaded the manual updates (from their website) and that went through, then i restarted still nothing.

If i do a System Restore will this take it back?

Thanks in advance

Hi Shane i have attached a screen shot of the Adware that has appeared again.

Glary picked this up but the Avast and Malewarebytes didn't.

Is this a concern, with the Adware and also has come back?

Hi Shane thank you

I ran 1.9.10 before using Glarysoft and it stalled again, but after running Glarysoft it went through faster.

Hi Shane

Thank you

I looked up Program files and found i386.

I did a Virus scan with Glarysoft Utility (i hadn't done a scan with Avast or Malware Bytes) and it found a Virus so i deleted that and ran the Repair and this time the log says it took 1.09 hours, alot better than 3 + hours.

I wonder if the other two antiviruses would have picked the virus up.

Would the virus slowed the repair down that much, to the point of stalling sometimes? Maybe it decided to go a bit faster, i will try it next repair to confirm.
The problem has been around for awhile, and i have scanned with the other two since.

Thanks again

Hi Shane

SFC doesn't ask for the disc, just comes up with a box saying VERIFYING WINDOWS PROTECTED FILES ARE INTACT etc.

It is XP so i don't understand.

Thank you

Hi Shane thank you

Sometimes (generally first time i run it) it goes through fine although slow.

Should the All In One Repair only be run once or can it be run as many times as i like?

The two XP cds i have are DRIVER RECOVERY & OPERATING SYSTEM which one should i use for the SFC?

Also where would i find it on the cd?

Thanks again
