Thank you.  I will try that when I can.

It shouldn't be shutting down on it's own, or anything else.  It should run at start-up, and not ever shut off, unless I exit and close the program myself.  That is why I posted the thread.

Yes, I can only use a wired modem.  This is a desktop.  When my firewall was being hit before, I had Zone Alarm.  It actually became annoying with so many alerts.  It was almost always Chinese ip addresses too.  Then I went to Comodo.  I liked it for a long time, and then I quit using it.  It became too difficult for me to use.  I've had other firewalls in the past too.  I loved Online Armor, but it wouldn't work with my Win8 computer.  So I quit using it.  (I had the paid version back then)  I had set up the Win8/8.1 computer to do safe mode, but haven't tried it with this computer in Win10.

I saw nothing in ESET logs that would explain this at all.  The last time the Remote Desktop IP Monitor Blocker closed was several days ago.  It may be days before it happens again.  The program closed sometime yesterday, but I didn't notice it until late last night.  When I can I will try the computer in safe mode for a little while, but doubt if I will see the Tweaking RDIMB program close that way.  It gives no warning, and I see no message.  Just one minute it is there, and then it's not.

All I have is a modem.  So you mean it is best to keep it plugged in all the time?  When I am going to be away from the keyboard for over 30 minutes, I usually pull the ethernet cord.  I started doing that as one day a message popped up when I was by the door.  I could've sworn it was in red.  When I went to see what it was, it disappeared.  I looked at notifications, and saw nothing.  I tried to look at event viewer, but saw nothing. So that worried me. With all these hackers, I try to be as safe as possible.  I used to have a firewall that would tell you who who was hitting your firewall.  A lot of them were coming from China.  Now I guess it is from all over.

I unplug the ethernet cord here and there.  I also unplug the modem some lately at night.  I've noticed with the ethernet cord pulled, the activity light on the modem can still go kinda crazy.  So I didn't want to take chances.  I have been pulling the power cord too, before bed...most of the time.

I am hardwired to the modem.  I always use this method these days.  I have shut off wireless connections entirely when I got Win10.

I can't think of anything I've downloaded recently that may cause this.  I have not tried to close it in safe mode with networking.  I guess you mean while connected to the internet.  You can exit and close the program without doing that.  Since I have Win10 I haven't used safe mode yet.  I did do a Windows update manually via the catalog.  (just one)  I use ESET NOD 32 antivirus.

Shane I've had this program for some time.  As far as I know it is working, and I've never seen an IP address pop up, which I guess is a very good thing.  For the 2nd time lately, the program closed, and I didn't do it, or know when it was closed.  I don't know if it is a bug, or what.  I am running Win10 with all updates done.  No av or malware that I'm aware of, and did scans today, it showed nothing.  Any ideas on this, or have you heard this happening at all?

That is certainly worth it, if you can afford it.  I have a lot of photos, and documents.  The documents aren't sensitive, just stuff that I save for future reference in connection with my hobbies.  If I were to lose either, I would be beside myself with grief.  Right now I just have two flash drives, and the one external hard drive.  In the future, I will up that.  I didn't know those safes were that much.  Well, in the future maybe I can get one.  A lot of hard work went into some of those documents.  Plus most of the photos are not replaceable, they are electronically held only.

Thank you for the comments.  I did buy an external hard drive last year.  I bought it after I had paid for the Carbonite subscription for the year.  I had planned to let the subscription run out, and not renew it.  Then I got to thinking about fire, or flood.  If my data was held off site too, I would not worry as much.  After this recent scenario, which has never happened before, I am going to rethink that.  The fire safe is a great idea.  I had not considered that.  I keep my external hard drive in the filing cabinet, and only use it once a week or so.  Now I think a fire safe will be a great investment.  Thank you Shane!

« on: June 16, 2014, 09:59:37 am »
Shane, thank you so much for everything!  I sure do appreciate it.  Now I won't worry about the guest files.  It seems the problem is Carbonite, with my slow speeds.  For some odd reason it started backing up practically everything.  When I pause it, the speed goes back to normal.  When I unpause it, it gets real slow again.  There were over a thousand files that were trying to back up, which is very strange.  I didn't just buy it, or have it on a trial.  It was backed up completely a few days ago.  I sent Carbonite an email inquiring about this.  They suggested I call them.  I still have 15 GB of data pending, which is a pain in the rear.  So if I need to watch a video, I pause Carbonite.  I can set it to back up slower, but there is so much data pending, it will take forever for it to finish.
Your idea about the reset is a great one.  I am going to have to write that down in my notes, and keep that for future reference.  I've never heard of that before, and that info will come in handy in the future!  Thanks for mentioning that too!!

Tweaking.com Support & Help / v 1.9.0 update question (SOLVED)
« on: June 14, 2014, 11:33:31 am »
I updated last night to the newer version.  I have had excellent luck with this program.  Did you add a guest to the backup in the newer version?  Before it backed up 14 files.  Now it is 16.  I don't use Guest, and now it is backing up guest data.
C:\Users\Guest\ntuser.dat  (shows size 2mb)
C:\Users\Guest\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Userclass.dat (shows size 1.2 mb)

The reason I ask is I am having strange download speeds the past 3 days.  I am trying to narrow down the problem.  I have used Eset Nod 32, Malwarebytes, and the Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit.  All found nothing.  My ISP tech thinks I have a virus.  So, I am looking for anything strange, or out of the norm.  If you didn't add GUEST in this update, that might be something for me to consider.  I did go to safe mode to do a speed test.  In safe mode it is average speed.  If a guest has been signing on, I need to know about it.  Thank you.

Shane, I cannot remember exactly.  It was maybe 10-15 minutes.  The chkdsk /r takes forever...about 3-4 hours, and it didn't fix it.  So this method is much easier.

I was told by someone to do these actions.  This is what I did.  It looks like most of my problems might be behind me.  (at least the windows corrupted files!!)

dism /online /cleanup-image /checkhealth
It said no component store corruption detected.
The operation completed successfully.

sfc scannow shows corruption

then I did the
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
It said: The restore operation completed successfully.
The Component Store corruption was repaired. The operation completed successfully.

sfc scannow again:
then it says: Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations!

Tweaking.com Support & Help / Used Windows Repair now have issue
« on: January 23, 2014, 08:31:37 pm »
I just used the Windows Repair for the first time.  I had used it because I had corrupted files initially. I was having trouble with booting from anti virus rescue disks.  I also had trouble with backups.  I did a scan with sfc /scannow and it did show it fixed some corrupted files, but some it could not.  So I decided to try the Windows Repair program.  When I first restarted after it was over, the action center had messages.  It said Windows Defender was off.  If you click turn on, it takes you to a System 32 file, with folders.  I have an anti-virus program, and it is running.  (Eset Nod32)  I also have Malwarebytes for a back up program.  This issue of Windows Defender never came up before.  I thought it was off, unless you didn't have an av program running.  If you look at the action center flag, now it shows an X for a problem, which before it has always been white, with no warnings you could see, unless you ran over it with your mouse.  I don't know yet how everything else is working.  I plan to do another sfc /scannow and see what comes up.  Any help would be appreciated.

I also wrote down the items Windows Repair had checked, before it started to repair them.  I also saved the log, before I rebooted.  I will attach that.

I ran the SFC /scannow  It shows I still have corrupted files, which really didn't surprise me.  But the Tweaking Registry Registry Backup did not start on it's own now.  It comes up, but doesn't scan.  I have to hit the Backup Now button on lower left.  (the gray one)  The Action Center says I have no antivirus installed.  My Dell says the same thing too.  ESET Nod32 is scanning as I type this.  So something isn't right.

Update 1-24-14 I ran a chkdsk /scan, then a chkdsk /spotfix, then rebooted, and the spotfix ran.  It was working on repairing errors before windows booted.  It finished, then booted.  I ran sfc /scannow again.  Still showing corrupted files.  I may have to repair windows with the manufacturer disk I burned.  If that copy isn't corrupted, I might be alright.  This copy was made after I updated at the store from Win8 to Win8.1   I highly suggested making an ISO file and use that, instead of updating at the store.  Windows forced me into the 8.1 update, by graying out everything one day, BUT THE STORE UPDATE.  I hope they have changed that policy by now. I don't know how to do a repair with windows dvd, but I am going to try to find out what I can on it.

Good to know that this is the file from this program, now to get Comodo to not see it as a problem.  The new Comodo is different, so I will have to search on that and fix it.

The verification is on this website.  You have to do it to register, that was all fine and good.  But then before I could send my first post, it won't me to verify those letters again, before I could push send on my post.  The letters are small, and not clear.  I don't see it now on the second post I'm doing.  Thanks for the help!  I also liked that video on Major Geeks about how to run the program.  Looks simple, yet effective.  Thank you very much.

I just downloaded and ran this program.  The first time it backed up fine.  Then I got a message from the newest version of Comodo.  It said vss.bat was suspicious, and not known, and it was putting it in the sandbox.  I preferred the easier older version, as I rarely had alerts, and I did not use sandbox.  I believe this vss.bat is connected to the Registry Back Up..is this correct or no?  This verification is killing me.  I can't read it right, and when I push click to hear, I don't hear a thing.  I decided to download the sound, but then Win8 did not play it, it didn't know what to open the file with, and sent me to the store, where it did not seem like any of those aps ran sound.
