Tweaking.com Support & Help / Re: Windows Repair Pro Question
« on: May 28, 2017, 04:38:32 pm »
I tried changing the home page through the Control Panel.
I cannot access the Tools Cog because there is no home page bar at the top. the page is blank.
I misspelled the Google address and a page opened with a message saying IE could not access the internet. It showed the home page bar etc.
When I corrected the Google address it went back to a blank page???
I use Seamonkey as my default browser.
I have run sfc. that was one of the first things I tried.
IE opens normally in safe mode.
Where would I find "Turn Windows Features Off?

I just tried the Anvi Browser Repair Tool.
Installed it and ran it. It listed 17 problems which it said it fixed. I rebooted and still have just a blank page

I have tried too many solutions to list them all. Google "Internet Explorer won't start" and you will get a good Idea.
I tried " iexplore -extoff " It opened a blank page which closed after a few seconds.
Most of the solutions you mention I have tried.
I have done a reset in the Advanced tab of Internet Properties
I have no ideas what "Tools cog is.
My home page is still "go.microsoft.com"
I tried  selective startup with inconclusive results.
I will try Anvi browser Repair Tool and see what happens.
Many others have this problem too.
Thanks,
Chuck

Mainly to get Internet Explorer to work.
I spent 2 days trying everything suggested on the net and nothing helped.
That includes running repair Internet Explorer in Windows repair
If I click it it may just not open, or it may open and then close or, it may open.
This is my last resort.

I have managed to locate the boot log and found that it loads up through mup.sys.
The next file is the MS Tun Miniport adapter which does not load and the hard drive is frozen in the on condition.
I am not sure what this means but if anyone knows please advise me
Thanks much,
Chuck

I tried to do a non-destructive repair as described by Fred Langa and now I cannot boot my computer. (I had done this in the past with no problem)
It does however boot into safe mode but when I tried to do a restore, there were no restore points shown.
I disconnected all the usb devices i have hooked up, and that seemed to change the point at which the stop takes place.
Help!
Thanks, Chuck

This morning I tried searching again.
I guess I phrased the search correctly because I found:

http://www.theeldergeek.com/start_explorer_in_c_drive.htmv

Start Windows Explorer In The C Drive
In the Explorer property sheet use this path and switches in the target:

C:\windows\explorer.exe /n,/e,c:\

Since the first days Windows Explorer appeared, the list of switches reproduced below has been floating around the internet. I'm not sure who was the first to assemble the list but here it is in its entirety. Play around with it and see if one of the views is what you're seeking. Just copy and paste the bold text into the Target line on the Property Sheet of Windows Explorer. If it's not what you expected you can always switch back to the default view by using C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe in the Target line.
•   "My Computer" highlighted in left side with all drives visible but not expanded and C: highlighted in right side: %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e,/select,c:
•   Desktop highlighted and nothing expanded: %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e,/n,/select,/root,c:
•   All drives visible and the system drive highlighted and expanded in full screen: %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e,/select
•   All drives visible and the system drive expanded in small screen: %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e,/select,%systemroot%
•   Only Windows Directory visible highlighted and expanded: %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e,/root,%systemroot%
•   All drives visible but only C: highlighted and expanded: %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e,c:
•   Nothing expanded and My Computer highlighted in right side: %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /n,/e,/select,
•   Opens the Windows folder as a folder: %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe %systemroot%
•   Opens as "My Computer": %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe %systemroot%,
•   This opens the Desktop folder with "My Computer" highlighted: %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe %systemroot%,/select,
•   "Desktop" highlighted in the left side and no drives visible:
%systemroot%\explorer.exe /e,/root,::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D},/select
•   "My Computer" highlighted in left side and all drives visible but none expanded:
%systemroot%\explorer.exe /e,/root,::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}
•   "Desktop" in left side highlighted and "My Computer" highlighted in right side and no drives visible:
%systemroot%\explorer.exe /e,/select,::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}

I ran: %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e,c:; and that solved the problem!
Thank you for all your help.

I just discovered something which may or may not help.
I am running Explorer.exe with the with /e added to the target under properties. i.e.: C:\windows\explorer.exe /e.
This opens explorer with the C directory expanded.
When I removed the /e the problem went away???
Thanks for the help,
Chuck

General Computer Support / Windows XP Explorer Acting Up
« on: March 17, 2017, 04:07:13 pm »
It started with Explorer (Not the web browser) not remembering it's position setting. it started opening in the lower right hand corner of the screen.
Then it started opening maximized. Now, most of the time, when closing it I get the error: "Proxy Desktop: explorer.exe - Application Error.
The Exception Unknown Software Exception 0x40000015 Occurred in Application at location 0x100891lda.
It still works but is an annoyance. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I ran Tweaking.com windows repair and now am receiving a pyLoad error:
pyLoad is not responding on http://127.0.0/1 /flashgot. Please check your firewall settings and the pyLoad configuration for the clock and load plugin. etc.
I can't even find pyLoad on my computer.
I am running windows xp.

I just had an epiphany!
When I use the Windows Zero Configuration Utility. the wireless connects immediately.
The problem has something to do with the Linksys Wireless Network Monitor.
I tried the latest driver but it did the same thing.

I have another WRT54G router which I tried and got exactly the same result.
Is that what you mean?
Also just a reminder that my other computers connect fine.
Chuck

70
Under Windows XP sp3, for reasons which I cannot explain, this problem began a couple of days ago.
I can get it to connect by doing a power reset of the WRT54G v5 router and then quickly doing a repair of the wireless connection before the router finishes booting up. This usually results in a connection.
Also, now, my wireless mouse doesn't work till I get it connected????
I ran the  Tweaking.com All In One repair item #12 "Repair Winsock and DNS Cache, but, that didn't fix it.
Can anyone suggest further steps to repair this?
Thanks,
Chuck

Just an update.
This morning I booted the computer and tried to access the firewall control panel.
It gave me the same message.
However, Event Viewer shows no errors or warnings?????
