If you still don't see all of the options in the advanced boot options then go Start - type control panel and click on it when it comes up.

Click on Backup and Restore (Windows 7) then click on Create a system repair disk.

Select the Safe to remove option to eject the disk and shutdown.

Tap F12 as you switch on - insert the disk and select to boot from the disk drive.

You may be prompted to press any key to boot from CD/DVD - do that and when it has loaded you can navigate to the restore options.

Can you start the machine then power shutdown when the Windows logo comes up and do that again and on the next restart will boot to Diagnosing your PC.

This will bring up the Automatic Repair screen - click on Advanced options.

Click on Troubleshoot - Advanced options where you will see the option for System Image Recovery.

After you have restored with the system image, you can boot into the advanced options again to select Command Prompt and reinstate the F8 option to boot into those.

At the prompt type bcdedit and press enter.

Make a note of what it gives for the identifier under Windows Boot Loader.

It can either be {current} or {default}

Using your identifier, type bcdedit /set {identifier} bootmenupolicy legacy and press enter.

Ensure you use the correct brackets.

Enter exit to close the cmd window then shutdown.

Tapping F8 on boot will get you the advanced boot options and pressing enter on the default Repair your computer will get you the same options as you would when you access those normally in Win 10.

To revert that, use standard instead of legacy in the cmd.

You seem to have a lot going on with your machine.

Can you download and create a Kaspersky Rescue Disk to boot up with which after loading will scan your system, but you need to wait for it to load.

I have to Ethernet connect to get an Internet connection for it to update its Definitions.

You can use Imgburn to create the bootable disk -

Let me know if it finds anything and if things improve after the scan.

You may have to remove the disk and power shutdown.

If nothing has changed then I would suggest you back up your personal stuff and factory reset your machine.

You will need to reinstall your programs but I would advise you to swap Spybot for the highly rated free TotalAV but I'd swap Spybot for TotalAV anyway as you shouldn't have to keep running Spybot - it has a bad rep.

If you can get into Safe Mode. select Command Prompt and enter bcdedit

Under Windows Boot Loader check to see what is says for identifier.

It can either be {current} or {default}

Using your identifier enter bcdedit /set {identifier} bootmenupolicy legacy

Ensure you use the correct brackets.

Enter exit to close the cmd window and shut down to see if tapping F8 on Start gets you into the advanced boot options.

I don't think there was a shopping cart when I bought my Pro version of WR, but agree you should be able to edit.

I'll email jpm (Jim) who is an admin to see if he can change the format.

BTW - You should have been able to do what I suggested straight away without the need for a shower and overnight sleep :lol

Rebooting your machine then clearing the temp folder cache should clear the cart for you to start again.

Following a further query to Shane, he's informed me that he's only seen this once before where one of the files was on a bad sector of the HDD.

To check the status of our HDD, go Start - type cmd and right click on it when it comes up and select Run as administrator then enter -

chkdsk /r

Enter y for it to run on the next reboot then enter this cmd which will effect an immediate reboot -

shutdown /r /t 00

After it completes, go Start - type eventvwr and press enter when Event Viewer comes up.

Ensure that Event Viewer (Local) is highlighted in the left pane - if it isn't then just click on it.

When it has read the data, expand Windows Logs - click on Application - Action - Find and type chkdsk into the Find box.

Cancel the Find box and read the log in the scrollable pane below.

Primarily you are looking to see if it reports any kbs in bad sectors.

If it does then immediately create a system image onto external media in preparation for full failure.

You will also need to create a System Repair disk to boot up with to load that image onto a new HDD.

The steps in this article may help but disregard any suggestion to download the Restoro Repair Tool.

This is the reply I've received from Shane but no explanation as to why it is happening.

The exe isn't getting replaced, make sure the tray icon isn't running. But the tray icon isn't important he can also open the file list txt file and remove the tray icon from the check.

I'll pass this onto Shane with a link to your thread.

Run a cmd prompt as an admin and copy & paste this cmd to the prompt.

It will put an icon onto your desktop with an abbreviated sfc /scannow report with what it could and couldn't repair which you can post.

findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log > %userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt

Download and run SFCFix to see if that can repair what the sfc /scannow couldn't - it will produce its own log.

However, it's possible that your machine could be infected.

Before you run SFCFix, boot into Safe Mode with Networking and download and run a scan with the free ESET Online Scanner -

If ESET fails to run then create a Kaspersky Rescue Disk which you boot up with where it will scan your system for malware.

After the scan, perform another sfc /scannow before you download and run SFCFix.

Let me know how you get on.

That's okay - no bother at all :)

When WR is corrupt you need to reinstall it, not just run it in Safe Mode with Networking.

You get that error message on WR when there are corrupt files as can be read in your pic of WR.

The reason to reinstall in Safe Mode with Networking is to isolate your antivirus program should that be the cause of corruption.

Go Start - type cmd then right click on it when it comes up and select Run as administrator then type sfc /scannow and press enter to see what it reports.

If it reports it has fixed corruption then try to do what you had tried before.

Try reinstalling Windows Repair in Safe Mode with Networking and try it again.

What is the reason why you need to run Windows Repair ?

I've had another reply from Shane -

Well just tried and it works fine. I have the checkbox set to only do 1 backup a day, so I removed todays backup and ran this command in a bat file

"C:\Program Files (x86)\\Registry Backup\TweakingRegistryBackup.exe" -silent

And it made the backup fine. Under advanced settings in the program there is a checkbox to only do one a day, if that is set and he runs the silent command and there is already a backup for today it wont create a new one.

I've had a reply back from Shane in that WR is not compatible with Server versions of Windows as the Permissions on those are different.

He also told me that he's going to include that warning in a future WR update.

Were you able to get your machine back to normal using WR's Registry Backup or the cmds I suggested ?

There was a bug with 3.5.3 in that you couldn't fully restore from them which is why Shane produced v4.0 but given how much the registry would have changed from when you backed up using 3.5.3 then I don't think it would be advisable to restore with an old back up.

Yes, I came across an old WR thread where someone had problems with WR on a Server version.

Open WR then click on Backup Tools then on Restore under Registry Backup.

Click on Registry Restore then use the dropdown to select the dated back up then hit Restore Now.

If that doesn't get you back then open a Command Prompt (Admin) or Powershell (Admin) and enter these cmds -

dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

sfs /scannow

ipconfig /flushdns

ipconfig /registerdns

shutdown /r /t 00

Then see what it's like after the reboot.

I've emailed Shane to see if there are any compatibility issues with WR and your version of Windows.

Do you have any restore points that will take you back to before you ran WR ?

Prior to running the repairs, WR creates a registry back up which you could restore to, to see if that gets things working normally for you.

It's accessed through Backup Tools.

I'll ask Shane.

What is BPA ?

This is the reply I've received from Shane.

Can you answer his question -

I didn't change the code for it, and it still runs on a schedule fine. Is he running pure silent mode or just on a schedule? I haven't used or touched full silent mode in a long time so i will test and see.

I'm 8hrs ahead of him here in the UK.

This article gives steps on how to restore your admin account should the restore points not fix, which again is done in Safe Mode -

Boot back into Safe Mode - go Start and type rstrui.exe and press enter when it comes up

This will give you access to your restore points without having to go through an UAC.
