General Computer Support / Re: Registry Compact (SSD)

For Win 7 TRIM looks after a SSD and is auto enabled, but the SATA ports need to be set to AHCI in the BIOS for this to happen.

To then ensure TRIM is enabled, run a cmd prompt as an admin and enter -

fsutil behaviour set DisableDeleteNotify 0

Or you could query its status with this cmd fsutil behavior query DisableDeleteNotify and that will return a 0 if enabled and a 1 if not.

You will need to disable Defragmenter and I think I once read something about Hibernate needing to be disabled as well, but can't confirm that.

However, if you don't use Hibernate then you can turn it off with this elevated cmd which will also free up about 6GB or more on your HDD.

powercfg -h off

If someone wants to hack something badly enough then they will find a way in.

Recently my ISP was hacked and personal details were obtained.

None of it affected me and I don't know if others had suffered a loss because of it, but complacency with security measures when they are doing their job will always occur.

It's only when they don't that they need to be upgraded - that is why we have so many AV program Definition updates as well as Windows Updates.

Don't know what went wrong with the attachments but here is the one for my LAN.

6480
Not sure why it would do that but I've never had to use a wireless dongle.

In Network and Sharing Center, when you click on the LAN does it give you the same UI as the wireless dongle does ?

As you can see with my built in adapters, the LAN is using Network -

I've read the article and while emails can be hijacked, I think it will be up to the user if and when they change their password but it is advised to change passwords periodically anyway, although I don't do it and I don't have any duplicated passwords.

6482
MBAM won't be a problem as you can always reinstall that - I can't remember if it has an all users option but AV programs protect the computer regardless of users as far as I know as that is what is licensed.

6483
Without going back through the thread, have you tried creating another admin account to see if you get the same problems ?

6484
Do you have the same problem in Safe Mode with Networking or in a clean boot ?

Had you downloaded anything prior to getting this and have you tried your restore points to before this occurred as well.

6485
Okay, but I'm not sure what else you can find.

6486
Okay - are you going to proceed with the non-destructive install or the Refresh/Reset ?

6487
Security programs go through a transition because of their Definition updates.

At one time there was a conflict between Norton 360 and MBAM and both had to come to a compromise.

I appreciate /restorehealth isn't working in Safe Mode either, but do the BSODs also occur in Safe Mode ?

If not then uninstall MBAM and then see if anything works any better.

6488
If you are also getting your BSODs in Safe Mode then uninstalling it won't have any effect - but your BSODs are occurring in normal mode - aren't they ?

6489
No, in Safe Mode no 3rd party programs are loaded but where an AV program will disable Windows Firewall if it doesn't use aspects of it, Windows Firewall will be activated in Safe Mode.

Is that what you meant ?

Feedback & Suggestions / Re: Locking/unlocking a topic

A thread is locked when there hasn't been any activity in it for 30 days.

6491
If you uninstall MBAM it will probably stop the BSODs.

This uninstaller will remove all bits -https://support.malwarebytes.org/customer/portal/articles/1835311?b_id=6438

6492
Just as an after thought, do you have MBAM and Bitdefender installed as there have been occurrences when these two have been installed have caused the same type of BSOD because of a compatibility problem.

Conflicts with security programs can cause a myriad of problems that can manifest in different ways.

However, since you still get the /restorehealth problem in Safe Mode where all 3rd party programs are isolated, then Windows Firewall could also be getting in the way, as it isn't always infallible and sometimes exclusions need to be made in its settings.

If the repair install isn't an option then I'd go for the Refresh or Reset options.

6493
The principle would appear to be the same, but do you have a Win 8.1 Enterprise disk ?

http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/26095-repair-install-windows-8-a.html

If you don't then you may have to go with a Refresh or Reset as I don't think you would be able to use a created Win 8.1 Pro disk as it wouldn't match your version - but I suppose you could try it first if need be.

6494
Yes I know - I was just answering your query to Julian's suggestion.

6496
Let me know if you have any problems with WR's registry restore as I'm going to have to shove off shortly.

6497
No, don't run WR again - just restore to prior the first run then do the non-destructive reinstall.

Something is obviously conflicting with what WR has repaired or tried to repair and the condition of your system.

6498
You will still need the wireless password to connect to your SSID.

6499
I'd meant the registry restore option in the WR program.

6500
Sod it - Boot up into Safe Mode again and use the registry restore option to before you first run WR then use that link I'd posted to guide you through a non-destructive reinstall and that way you won't have to reinstall your programs.

The registry restore has a dropdown to select the earliest back up.
