General Computer Support / Re: windows 10 rundll problems
« on: May 02, 2016, 02:31:00 pm »
Could you see it in Process Explorer and did you have Process Explorer set up as I'd described ?

So are you saying that if you boot up on battery, you don't see it until you connect the AC ?

You haven't said if you have downloaded anything recently, but do you have any restore points to prior this pop up ?

I can't find anything on it either.

Download Process Explorer to see if it has a digital signature and if Virus Total.com gives it a red rating.

 https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/processexplorer.aspx

Click on Options and ensure Verify Signature is checked then hover over VirusTotal.com and check that box.

What did you scan your system with and have you recently downloaded anything ?

I think I've seen posts where MBAM has given a false positive on something before now which was then reported to MBAM and was corrected.

Given that HitmanPro is a paid for program, then you have the right for it to work properly.

I use Norton and now and again it and Windows Smartwall has blocked AdwCleaner from http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/ then after a few days it will let it in.

HitmanPro may stop reporting the file as a threat as Norton did, but as long as nothing stops the program from working then I would ignore it.

You would normally enable a device in Device Manager by right clicking on it and selecting Enable, but I didn't see any evidence that it was disabled as that would normally have put a black downward pointing arrow next to it.

As I've said, I've never known anyone using a Bluetooth dongle to enable WiFi on their computer but have a look through that Bluetooth set up article I've linked to see if you have it set up correctly - it isn't a Plug and Play and needs additional settings to get it to work.

6555
You haven't answered if you've been able to connect with this device before.

Bluetooth is normally used to connect to other devices and to enable WiFi on the computer where a card isn't fitted, you would normally use a wireless dongle.

I've never come across someone using a Bluetooth dongle to this end before.

Did you edit out the DHCP IPv4 address from the ipconfig ?

6556
They never tally - here have a look at mine -

6557
Have you ever been able to connect wirelessly with this adapter ?

I don't have any experience of Bluetooth but you may have to unplug it and set it back up again.

http://money.howstuffworks.com/how-to-connect-internet-using-bluetooth.htm

Can you open a cmd prompt and enter ipconfig /all

Right click in the text area and click on Select all and press enter, then paste into the reply box.

npapi suggest that it is firefox

That's what I thought but there's been no mention of Firefox.

It may be that when you download FP in Pale Moon, that is what you get - don't know as I've never used it.

6559
Does the Desktop have a wireless card fitted  and have you previously been able to connect with WiFi previously with it - read and try all of my suggestions, otherwise I can't know what you have tried or not.

6560
Hi, if adobe flash player is update for firefox, then you have to delete the cookies cache totally and then try.  see this link and remove all corrupted cookies cache.
http://www.catonmat.net/blog/clear-privacy-ie-firefox-opera-chrome-safari/
that should work

Pale Moon seems to be the browser of choice, JR.

I think they use 128bit encryption now, although it may still be 64 bit in XP - don't know.

As you can Ethernet connect, let's treat this as a no wireless connection problem.

First thing you need to do is to check if Wireless is turned on.

Toggling F8 on a desktop may do it and have a light for when it's off or on - a laptop may use a FN+F key combo but your computer user manual will tell you which keys you use.

Do you get a wireless connection when you boot up into Safe Mode with Networking as AV programs can block connectivity.

If still no wifi then right click on the wifi icon in the system tray and open the Troubleshooter to see what that reports.

Does the wifi icon have a yellow alert, red cross or is it just a blank screen with an antenna ?

Go into Device Manager/View/Show hidden devices and look for any yellow alerts, red crosses or black downward pointing arrows.

Non-Plug and Play Drivers can also have yellow alerts next to it.

Expand Network adapters and right click on the wireless one and under the General tab will show its status.

This can be that it's working properly or will have an error code.

Give us some feed back on those and we'll see where we can proceed from there, but you can also see if power cycling the modem and router will get you connected.

Switch off all computers, the modem and router as well as disconnecting all cables for a couple of mins.

Reconnect the cables except the Ethernet, then switch just the modem on until all of the lights are on and steady then do the same for the router.

Switch just the problematic computer on without Ethernet and check for connectivity.

Don't forget your restore points if this is just a recent problem.

6562
This could be more to do with your broadband connection and channel setting.

Some routers have their channel setting set to Auto so that when it changes and you are streaming, that can disrupt the stream - but have you tried using a different browser ?

YT will now look for HTML5 if the browser supports it, which Pale Moon doesn't.

https://www.youtube.com/html5

EDIT - Which options do you get when you right click on the video ?

6563
a pause Gives time for the user to shutdown and save programs before restarting windows and also gives time for the services to restart and make the folders. But usually when I see the pause im like alright lets restart the beast up and see if she runs purring. Because when you reboot the computer that's when all the fiLes rebuilds.

So you would still need to exit the cmd window to shutdown, or does the pause do that or is it waiting for you to hit any key for it to proceed, rather than executing the batch file immediately - even though a reboot may be required for the batch file to effect ?

In Win 7 no special tools are necessary to view the password.

Open Network and Sharing Center - click on the Wireless connection then on Wireless Properties and under the Security tab you will see the password, generally hidden but which can be unhidden.

While I don't have any experience of XP, the procedure should be similar.

It may also be displayed in the router in the Wireless Set up.

As Julian has said, the 54Mbps is the rate at which data will transfer between computers or over the network.

In older machines the NIC may only be g instead of the n of later more standard machines, but we now also have ac which is much faster.

However, both the router and computers must have ac adapters, although they are backward compatible with b/g/n.

The other thing is that ac routers broadcast on the 5GHz band which ac requires, but the downside of that is that the wireless range of 5GHz is less than that of 2.4GHz.

2.4GHz will travel through walls whereas 5GHz bounces off them in what is known as the splatter effect - but I digress :)

The wireless NICs in my laptops are n and are capable of up to 300Mbps but because older laptops only had a mini NIC, that would be reduced to 150Mbps.

Desktop PCs have a full card in them so they will be able to achieve the 300Mbps.

For LAN, this can either be up to 100Mbps where the LAN adapter is a Family Controller (10/100), but when the computer has a GBE LAN adapter (10/100/1000) and the router has a Gigabit port, then that data transfer speed will be up to 1GB.

However, when transferring data between a machine with a n NIC onto a machine with a g NIC (or vice versa), the transfer speed will be restricted to the lowest which in this case will be the 54Mbps - this can be reduced further depending on the distance between machines and router and is why data transfer would probably best be done when the computers are wired.

My broadband download speed is approx. 6.7meg, so you can see there is no correlation between that and the data transfer speed.

This is why it is advised to run WR in Safe Mode so the any AV program doesn't interfere.

I assume WR does start for you in Safe Mode ?

How exactly are you starting WR ?

While an AV program can see a program that works in the registry as a threat, I would think it is unusual that VirusTotal.com would also find it unsafe, but you may have to contact HitmanPro to have it whitelisted.

I'm wondering if once HitmanPro whitelist it whether VirusTotal.com would still snag it.....

I've had that on mine before now, but fortunately I was able to recover with a system image.

If you still have the Pro product key from the upgrade to Pro then you can perform a repair install with the install disk, but first back up your drivers onto something like a Flash drive and then you can drag & drop them back in after the repair install.

As it's an universal install disk, you may be asked which version you want to install - but that may just be if you were doing a clean install.

The product key can be confirmed in the free version of Speccy by clicking on Operating System after the Analyzing.

I can't remember if you need to look out for any bundled unwanted software with this download as they all seem to be doing it these days, so just look for any boxes to uncheck during the download/install.

https://www.piriform.com/speccy

There are three drivers folders and they can be found in C:\Windows\System32

You may also want to back up any personal stuff, but this should repair the volume without affecting your personal files or installed programs, but I'd also recommend creating a system image as well as a system repair disk if you haven't done so already.

6568
Download Process Explorer then run Windows Repair to see if Virus Total.com snags anything then.

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/processexplorer.aspx

Click on Options and ensure Verify Signature is checked then hover over VirusTotal.com and check its box.

While it doesn't find a verified signature for WR or the system tray, it doesn't give it a rating for me either.

6569
You may want to let MS know as well Julian, because their only suggestion is to run the SURT and if that doesn't work then it's a repair install.

What does the "pause" bit do in that cmd ?

Does the printer also work in the port you have been using for the external HDD ?

Does anything else work in the USB ports and have you tried a different port ?

You may need the chipset or video drivers that support the USB drivers.

Are you now able to boot up with the Kaspersky or Paragon disks ?

6572
I'll echo that - Nice one Julian :)

6573
Click on the download button for 3.8.7 at www.tweaking.com and you'll see a button to recover your lost key.

6574
I've upgraded to 3.8.7 and my Norton Security hasn't snagged anything.

When you start WR and it checks its files, does that find any error ?

I would reinstall WR and then see if HMPro or Virus Total.com still snags it.

6575
I've been having another dig around for fix for the 0x800F081F error and it would seem that either SURT or a repair install are the only options.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/windows-update-error-800f081f

Run SURT again then forget about it until it completes then see what it reports in the Checksur log as I've previously described.

I think you are going to have to have some patience on this.
