That sounds a lot for just one tab - but I don't have any experience of PM - it's just that there seem to be a lot deserting FF in favour of it.

You could try Waterfox to see how that performs.

Are you saying that the latest version of PM is the equivalent to FF v24.9 or is that the version of FF you are running when it is up to v45.0 with a v45.0.1 in the offing ?

6878
So does that mean you have moved onto PM ?

See if uBlock or Adblock Plus works on it, but I think you will always come across some website that will give you the long acting script pop up - just not as frequent.

6879
Waterfox is another browser similar to FF, but have a look through this list -

6880
I'd agree with not using FF because it's such a resource hog.

You may want to consider using Pale Moon if you like that sort of thing and I've seen a number of people deserting FF for PM.

When you are in Device Manager, also check for any Unknown Devices - or has the tech already done that ?

I was wondering how you were getting on with the upgrade and if anything in http://www.tweaking.com/forums/index.php/topic,4322.0.html would help your cause, although your problem differs, but they could be something else to try.

To remove non-present drivers, run a cmd prompt as an admin and enter -

set_devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1

devmgmt.msc

In Device Manager, click on View/Show hidden devices then expand the various sections and right click on the ones with greyed out icons.

If you are worried you may delete something that perhaps you shouldn't have, then create a restore point first.

6883
On the rare occasions I use or update FF I've never had any problems.

6884
Safe Mode in FF disables all add-ons.

To remove uBlock and/or Adblock Plus - click on the Tools hamburger - Add-ons and then on Extensions where you will see the options.

6885
It's possible that your 2014 version was too old for the new version to install on top of as it is now a different build.

Download FreeFixer and have it scan your system then scroll down and check the boxes for anything Tweaking.com related then hit the Fix button.

A reboot after won't hurt and then download Windows Repair onto your computer.

**** End of log ****

Usually the cmd netsh winsock reset would reset the catalog, but glad you were able to find the solution.

6887
Glad that worked out for you - I wonder if that would also be a fix for others who have failed upgrade problems ?

6888
That's one of the reasons I only have FF as a spare browser because it can be heavy on resources - but why have so many tabs open.

At a stretch I may have up to 10 tabs open in IE 11 when I'm working the forums without detriment.

How does FF perform with just one tab open and uBlock installed ?

6889
I'm removing the (Solved) from your thread title as you are still having problems which may or not be related to the Nvidia.

6890
Normally when you get that error, it is the winsock but for it to just occur with one website, it could be a DNS issue.

You haven't said which version of Windows you are using, but this is for Win 7 which you may have to adapt for other versions.

Go Start - type ncpa.cpl and press enter.

Right click on whichever adapter you are using and select Properties - click on (TCP/IPv4) then on Properties.

Check the lower radio button for Use the following DNS server addresses and enter 8.8.8.8 in the upper row of boxes and 8.8.4.4 in the lower row.

Check the box to Validate settings upon exit - OK - Close and that will invoke the trouble shooter which should return no problems found.

You may also want to uncheck the box for (TCP/IPv6) as sometimes that can cause problems.

6891
You must have something else going on in your system/browsers as I have uBlock Origin in FF and Adblock Plus in IE 11 and don't have any problems whatsoever.

6892
For FF I use uBlock Origin which has a lighter footprint, but as yet there isn't a version for IE.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/

6893
I've never seen that reported for Adblock before - what other ad-ons do you have in IE and are you using IE 11 ?

6894
What problems is it causing ?

It's very rare that I get the long running script error since installing Adblock Plus.

It doesn't block all ads as I believe companies have made a deal with Adblock to allow some and I've had to whitelist one website because some info is dynamic which Adlbock would otherwise block.

General Computer Support / Re: Realter Audio problem driver
« on: March 18, 2016, 12:54:54 am »
Nothing in what I have read about disabling the driver signing has said that it could cause the problems you have had, but in view of that, I will cross it off my list as a fix.

6896
Well, you definitely want an external system image before upgrading.

While you will have the option to roll back for 30 days after the upgrade, there have been reports of this not working.

Not sure if MS have gotten their hands dirty in that.

If you are using an OEM machine, you may have the option to create a set of Recovery disks which will be a copy of the Recovery partition with which to factory reset and you will need a Win 7 System Repair disk to boot up into the advanced boot options to restore with an image created on an external HDD.

Because Win 10 boots up that quickly, F2 and F12 no longer work, so before the upgrade go into the BIOS and set it permanently to boot from the ODD and USB before the HDD, although I believe you have the option from within Win 10 to access the recovery options - you'll need to have a Google for those as I haven't bothered adding those to my notes.

6897
It may be baulking because of the Nvidia compatibility but you won't be the first to have Win 10 upgrade failures, even with a compatible machine.

6898
Were you still getting the Invalid Picture message in Safe Mode after deleting the icon ?

If your system is running fine then there's no need to run WR, but if you don't want to rely on the registry back up, then create an external system image - which is something you should be doing anyway.

6899
I use Win 7 x64 Home Premium but had a short foray into Win 10 but didn't like it - and even less later, when nothing came up in the Start menu so that I couldn't do anything.

At the time I wasn't aware AMD had a driver update for my HD6310 so the display was a little stretched so that I could just about click on the Aero button.

For me, there was nothing I could do better in Win 10 that I couldn't already do in Win 7 and easier.

Oh - and Cortana didn't recognise I was in the UK and using English (UK) language - so much for it knowing all :D

I had to create a MS account to find that out but after doing so, then had to log in to use the laptop which is something I wasn't happy with.

Have you tried installing an ad blocker such as Adblock Plus ?
