They all include SP1 at your linked site, but the size is small compared the site I linked you to.

If you have already created a bootable disk from that ISO - give it a try by booting up with it to see if it is an ISO.

If it boots up, navigate to the splash screen and select Repair your Computer which should take you to the Recovery Environment when you can remove the disk and Restart or Shutdown.

I had problems on this machine downloading the HP 64bit version and noticed its size was just over 2GB instead of its usual 3.09GB and when I tried to burn it, I got the error message that no ISO file was found.

Perhaps you'll just have to leave it at that and put the problematic ones onto another Flash.

I do have the Notify box checked and have got here through checking the e-mails having just came back online, but I have a load to delete because I was working three threads earlier.

Don't know the other burners but ImgBurn will do fine, although you could use the Windows one that I've linked.

Are you sure that doesn't have SP1 included and where did you get it from and did you want the 32 bit version ?

That number tallies with the SP1 version at http://www.w7forums.com/threads/official-windows-7-sp1-iso-image-downloads.12325/page-2#post-124821

I'm not familiar with software that can create multiple boots on one device and tend to just use DVDs for my install/repair tools.

It's possible that some of the recovery ISOs may need to have media of its own but have you come across Hiren's Boot Disk that has a multitude of recovery/repair tools on it http://www.hiren.info/pages/bootcd

There's a download link at the bottomish of this article http://www.hirensbootcd.org/download/ - haven't a clue where it is on the other page.

I'm not sure if you can still get a Win 7 ISO without SP1.

When you click on the Here link next to the Media Refresh in the link for the Win 7 ISOs, it takes you to another page and gives the size of Ultimate as ~3.243GB and you put it onto just one DVD.

Not sure what you are using as a burner but you can use http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/html/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool to create either a bootable USB/DVD.

That puzzled me when you said you had 138 Bings.

Go Control Panel - All Control Panel Items and select Internet Options and under the Advanced tab click on Reset and check all of the boxes - OK - then reboot the computer and see what IE does then.

This should clear any anomalous add-ons but to change the Search Provider, you have to go into Manage Add-ons and if IE is still playing up, you can open IE without add-ons - but see how things go after you've reset it.

You will have to reset your home page if returns with the MSDN page and you use something else.

Do you have the Bing Desktop that keeps getting offered with Windows Updates ?

Did the restore points succeed in Safe Mode or did IE behave itself in Safe Mode with Networking ?

I thought you had used ImgBurn to create a bootable USB ISO.

While I have a bootable Win 7 ISO on a 4GB stick as well on a DVD, the only other bootables have been for Paragon and Kaspersky Rescue Disks and read that for bootable media, it should only have that ISO on it - so I'm not sure how you have working multiple ISOs on one stick.

Perhaps this will help  http://www.discwizards.com/articles/Glossary-CD-DVD-Blu-ray-HD-DVD-types.htm

If you are going to create a bootable Win 7 disk then you will need a -R DVD as the ISOs are a little over 3GB http://www.w7forums.com/threads/official-windows-7-sp1-iso-image-downloads.12325/

You can use either those on the home page or the Media Refresh editions.

How are you using ImgBurn to create a bootable USB as I thought that could only do it for disks ?

Are you sure you are using a -RW and not just a -R as once a -R is burned, those files can't be erased.

If you are trying to put more than one ISO onto any media, that will cause problems as that media should only have one ISO as it will be confused as to which it should boot from - just as this can happen when external HDDs are connected on some machines.

Perhaps the multiple ISOs are conflicting in some way because of that.

With just one ISO on the pen drive, do you get any errors ?

You could try formatting it (PDF download) https://www.eclimatenotebook.com/pdfs/support_FDFormat_Win7.pdf and this article may help if you lose some of its capacity http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/219693/unable-to-format-usb-stick-to-full-capacity/

Have you tried the restore points in Safe Mode ?

If they still fail then open Event Viewer to see if there are any related errors.

You can also open a command prompt as an administrator and enter the command sfc /scannow to see what that reports

Hi Clade - Shane won't be back until Monday - he and his wife are away for the weekend celebrating their 10th wedding anniversary.

Let's see what a chkdsk will find on it.

As you haven't said which version of Windows you are using, follow the appropriate steps in http://knowledge.seagate.com/articles/en_US/FAQ/184611en

9590
I tried that Win 7 tutorial as well and found the last command wouldn't work, so it may be the tutorial.

Does your Win 7 install disk include SP1 ?

If it doesn't then you can Save a Win 7 SP1 ISO from http://www.w7forums.com/threads/official-windows-7-sp1-iso-image-downloads.12325/page-2#post-124821 and use http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/html/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool to create a bootable USB/DVD.

Tapping F12 (usually) as you switch on will give you a one off Boot order change - using the cursor keys to select the media you are using.

Insert the media and press enter.

I've never done this on a Win 8 machine but would think the steps similar to Win 7.

Press any key when prompted to boot from the media and navigate to the Recovery Environment and select Command Prompt.

At the command prompt enter bcdedit |find "osdevice" and using whichever letter it gives for the partition enter (assuming C: )

sfc /scannow /offbootdir=C:\ /offwindir=C:\Windows and see if that will repair the previously unrepaired files.

I'm subscribed to the thread so will pick up your update, but that  won't be until tomorrow now as it's 11.45pm here in the UK.

In that ESET link there's also a link to run the ESET Online Scanner, but wasn't sure with AVG disabled etc. whether that would be allowed to run.

It will also do a deep scan when the Advanced button is clicked and all of the boxes checked except the last one - something about Proxy I think.

Did MBAM find anything as they are typical symptoms of an infection.

Let's see if MSRT will find anything -

Open the Command Prompt as an administrator and enter mrt.exe /F:Y

This will force a Full scan and auto remove any infections - this can take a few hours to run.

When it's done, use this ESET Services Repair Tool to restart services normally disabled by an infection to see if that will get the Firewall and BFE services started again.

Hi, Boggins,  Thank you for the information

But i am sure that this program was not present up to a month back. This program was not installed when i installed the OS. What is of use to us. Pl

As I've said, if a program that you have installed requires it for its functionality, then it would have been bundled with the download just as some programs will install the Redistributables.

It's also possible that Flash Player may have installed it if it didn't detect it on your computer.

This article may explain things better http://ask-leo.com/what_is_adobe_air.html

9594
Adobe Air probably came preinstalled on your computer if OEM, as some of the programs use it and if you are using a home build, then one or more of the programs you have installed will use it just as a program may need to use of the MS Visual C++ Redistributables.

I forget what I downloaded now, but that installed the 2012 whereas previously I only had up to 2010.

You could create a restore point or system image and then uninstall it to see which programs cease to function.

After reading your thread, I checked my version against the latest and found mine was still at v.9 and so updated it to the current v.14.

The reason I don't get any prompts for Java or Adobe updates is because I have their updaters unchecked in msconfig, as I prefer as little as possible in my Startup menu.

Have you tried installing it while booted up into Safe Mode with Networking ?

General Computer Support / Re: startup programs won’t loading ?
« on: August 25, 2014, 12:35:12 pm »
You don't really need any programs in your Start up.

Go Start - type msconfig - press enter and under the Startup tab, check which ones are already unchecked if any and then click on Disable all - Apply - OK - Restart.

After it has rebooted, reboot it again to see what your Start up time is like.

It's also quite possible you've amassed a fair bit in the Temp folder that will remain even when a computer is regularly shut down and this can slow a computer up.

Go Start - type %temp% and press enter - if there's a substantial amount in there then click on Organize - Select all - Organize - Delete - then empty the Recycle Bin - again, checking the boot up time.

Also go Start - type disk cleanup and right click on Disk Cleanup and Run as an administrator.

If either of the steps to clean out files is substantial then follow that up with a Defrag.

An infection can also slow up a computer so run a malware scan with a robust scanner.

9598
Were you able to run the chkdsk command in read-only mode to see if it reported any bad sectors ?

This article may be able to help with the CBS Log but the DISM command doesn't work in Win 7 http://www.thewindowsclub.com/windows-resource-protection-found-corrupt-files

As the CBS Log is quite large, you could .zip it and attach it to your reply for Shane to have a look at it, but unless you are able to replace the corrupt files then the next step would be either a Repair Install or a factory reset on an OEM machine after backing up your personal stuff.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html

9599
ESET Free Online Scanner is a good in depth anti malware scanner http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/

Click the Advanced button and check all of the boxes except the last one and the one to auto uninstall on completion, then disable your AV program immediately before you hit Scan - this scan will take some time to run.

Prior to doing that can you open a command prompt as an administrator and enter the command chkdsk and while it will snag corrupt files as the sfc was unable to repair all, look to see if it reports any bad sectors.

Doc is probably referring to a Repair Install http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html
