Are you able to download the free version of MBAM to run a scan with that https://www.malwarebytes.org/
This section allows you to view all posts made by this member. Note that you can only see posts made in areas you currently have access to.
QuoteHave you backed up all of the photos etc that your friend's wife wanted and are able to recover them, as you will lose all of those with a factory reset.
Thats why we cloned the drive. Old drive has all the data and is untouched. With the clone we can do what ever and worse case we clone it again and start over.

Just one more note. I've been playing with the idea of trying to trigger the recovery process from the cloned hard drive. The recovery partition should have the original recovery files that came with the computer on it (not the recovery disks I purchased). I used the Mini XP application on the Hirens disk to access files on the recovery partition, found an application called restore, and double clicked on it. The expect HP restore program started. I'm at the point where I can just click the button and see if it will actually run the restore... shall I go ahead?
I dont think it is a virus, I think you have a drive crashing and is what is causing everything.
When windows shuts down it will hang if it is unable to stop a driver. So the question is, which driver is doing it? Cam driver? Video Driver? Audio? network?
The first thing to do, since we dont know which driver is causing it, is to make sure you have the latest versions of all those drivers, including the chipset drivers. have you done that yet?
Shane
Hey, Thanks for the response.
I have updated all my drivers since this started happening, I will go over them all again just in case. I am using the "search automatically for updated driver software" on the Device Manager, is this okay? or should I download all the drivers myself and install them manually?
OK, it looks like I now have two identical drives. Booting from either has the same result. In the upper left hand corner appears the word Error!
I'm ready to begin the repair.
I wouldn't use µTorrent because it can lead to serious infections.
You may not need Teredo http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/network/cc917486.aspx as the 6to4 adapter can perform similar functions, but as it's a default adapter and is showing with a fault, then reinstalling it should it ever be needed could be prudent.
Is Bittorrent better than uTorrent?
